KAYLEE It was late afternoon by the time I got home with Zeke. I knew something was wrong before I got the key in the door and unlocked my apartment. It was just a feeling of dread that traveled down my spine and made me shudder. The air buzzed with foreboding. Suddenly, I wasn’t too eager to step into my apartment, especially not with Zeke perched on my hip, a diaper bag hanging from my shoulder, and a grocery bag in my other hand. For a moment, I considered knocking on one of my neighbors’ doors and asking them to either watch Zeke for me or escort me into my apartment, realizing how that would look when I had made it a point to keep to myself stopped me from going with that idea. I was left with no other choice. I had to face whatever awaited me on the other side of the door alone. O
