KAYLEE Agreeing to leave with Axel hadn’t been that hard of a decision to make. The moment I’d seen him on my doorstep, something had shifted in me and all the fight just drained from me. Somehow, I had known he would find me. I might have tried to convince myself otherwise for weeks, but eventually, at the back of my mind, I’d known Axel would find me and take me out of that tiny apartment. As I followed Axel down the carpeted hallway of the hotel where he had booked a room for the night, I couldn’t fight the way my chest tightened. Axel hadn’t wanted to drive throughout the night back to Tidestone and had stopped at the closest place resembling a town with a decent hotel. I didn’t argue. There was at least an eight-hour drive before we were back in Tidestone from where I’d been hiding
