“What?” Evelyn asked as his eyes traveled down to the cookies she held on the plate.
He smiled again, and before she could utter a word, he took the plate from her hands and started feasting on the cookies.
Evelyn was dumbstruck as she glared at him intently.
“Such audacity!” She muttered inwardly as she tried so hard to remain calm and unperturbed by what he had just done.
She darted her eyes back to Ryan, who was still sitting in the position she had caught sight of him earlier. She needed to ask him the questions that troubled her heart, but then, had to know what to do about Blaze.
“This is great! Did you prepare it?” Blaze asked and placed a piece into Evelyn’s mouth that was slightly opened.
Evelyn had no option other than to chew on the cookies in her mouth.
Blaze was the quietest from the four. He barely talked, but was great when it came to flirting around with a girl. None of his brothers knew about that particular trait he possessed. This was because he usually did it discreetly…
“You have something on your lips”, he said and placed his hands on Evelyn’s lips, to take off some cookies' crumbs that had dropped there.
Evelyn turned cold that instant. Her heart raced out of her chest and didn’t stop racing until he was done with her.
“Bring me cookies every day! You have no idea of how much I love them”, Blaze said and handed the empty plate over to Evelyn.
Evelyn was numb and unable to decipher how to react. Was she supposed to pour out her rage and tell him how she was displeased by his act?
She finally gulped down her thoughts and forced a smile that hardly got to her eyes.
He was her mate, after all, and she wasn’t meant to get mad at him over a plate of cookies.
Blaze finally left after playing with her hair softly, while Evelyn hurried and scurried back to the kitchen.
She already had her different encounters with the three boys. But then, Ryan seemed to be odd, and she was bent on knowing why.
With an innocent smile on her face, she requested for another set of the cookies from the cook. Once it was given to her, she dashed across to Ryan, while hoping that she wouldn't meet another obstacle in the form of her mates.

Ryan felt a warm sensation when Evelyn was some foot away from where he sat. He tried to ignore it at first, but when it became vivid and undeniable, he raised his head and that was when he caught sight of her.
A big hiss escaped his lips as he quickly returned his gaze to the book he was reading.
Evelyn counted her footsteps right until she stood at his front, with the plate of cookies in her hands.
“They said you love cookies. And so, I decided to bring you some!” Evelyn announced as she smiled warmly, ignoring the stern gaze he wore on his face.
“Hi Ryan!” She was saying when he suddenly cut in and interjected her.
“Don’t you dare call me by my name! If you have come here to know I’m your mate, then let me save you the stress of asking me. I am not your mate and would never be your mate!” Ryan thundered heavily, completely taking Evelyn aback for a second.
Evelyn gulped down hard and wiped off the beads of sweats that had formed on her forehead.
Her wolf whimpered in pain. The way and manner in which he spoke to her was enough to pierce through her soul.
“I only brought you some cookies since you love them. I mean no harm!” Evelyn lied, but wore an innocent gaze.
Her major intention was to find out if Ryan was mated to her. But then, his reaction made her rethink about asking him.
“Cookies? So, you came to feed me cookies? Am I your pet?” Ryan asked as he stood to his feet and wore a scornful look.
He grabbed the plate of cookies from her hands and emptied every of its contents to the ground. This startled Evelyn, who opened her eyes in surprise. She couldn’t believe her eyes, neither did she ever imagine that Ryan would be so angry with a topic that concerns mating.
“You can be mates with as many people as you want! But as for me, I can’t and would never be mated to you! You can go back to wherever you came from and save me the stress of setting eyes on you!” Ryan said in finality as he stomped out of the scene.
Evelyn remained numb for what seemed like ages. She pondered over each and everything that he had just said, and she couldn’t help but shake her head in surprise.
Even if he wasn’t mated to her, why should he sound so erratic and insulting?
These were the questions that swirled around her heart as she crouched low to pick up the biscuits that he had thrown to the ground.
“Ungrateful fool!” She muttered silently, even if she felt bad for insulting him in such a manner.
He deserved it, though. She had done something of goodwill, but he shoved it aside as though she were a fool.
Everything got her utterly confused.
Why was he so angry about being mates with her? And if he wasn’t her mate, how was he also in the same room where the other three were…at the same time.
The four of them had come into her room the first night. She was certain that something drew each of them to the room, definitely the mating bond. And then, the three brothers already accepted that they were her mates, but Ryan was not willing to.
“What was he doing in the room that night?” Evelyn asked herself again as she made up her mind to know what might be wrong.
Just as she made her way back to the kitchen, she crossed paths with Ryan again. This time, he shot her a dead glare, after which he uttered “Avoid me!”
Evelyn was shocked to her bones and at that point, she was sure that her stay in the palace would have bits of terror.
