Chapter 4:The will that changed everything

529 Words
No one spoke. The words "I'm changing my will" echoed through the hospital room like thunder. Victoria's face turned pale. "What did you just say?" she asked, her voice trembling. Adrian Ashford looked at her without a hint of hesitation. "You heard me." "I've spent too many years away from my daughter. I won't allow anyone to mistreat her—not in my presence, not in my home, and certainly not after I'm gone." Victoria clenched her fists. "So after everything I've done for you, you're going to throw it all away because of a girl who suddenly appeared?" Ava's eyebrows knitted together. "I didn't come here for anyone's money." Victoria let out a bitter laugh. "That's exactly what every gold digger says." Before Ava could respond, Grace stepped forward. "My daughter was raised to earn everything she has." "We survived with almost nothing, yet she never once asked for a rich man's help." William adjusted his glasses. "Mrs. Ashford, I suggest you choose your words carefully." Victoria glared at him. "Stay out of this." Just then, the hospital room door opened again. A distinguished man in his fifties walked in carrying a leather briefcase. "Mr. Ashford, you asked to see me." Adrian nodded. "Perfect timing, Daniel." Daniel Brooks, the Ashford family's lawyer, placed the briefcase on the table. "You sounded quite urgent." "It is." Adrian looked directly at Daniel. "I want my daughter officially recognized as an Ashford today." Daniel smiled warmly at Ava. "I've been waiting many years to meet you, Miss Cole." Ava blinked in surprise. "You knew about me?" Daniel nodded. "Your father never gave up hope." "He instructed me years ago to prepare every legal document needed for the day you were finally found." Victoria stared in disbelief. "You planned this?" "For twenty-two years?" she whispered. Adrian's voice softened. "I promised myself that if I ever found my daughter, she would never have to question whether she belonged." Daniel opened the briefcase and removed several documents. "These papers officially recognize Miss Ava Cole as the biological daughter and legal heir of Mr. Adrian Ashford." Ava's hands trembled. "This... this is happening too fast." Adrian smiled gently. "You don't have to sign anything tonight." "I'm not asking for your answer today." "I'm simply making sure no one can ever erase your place in this family again." Tears filled Ava's eyes. For the first time in her life, she felt wanted. Not because of money. Not because of power. But because someone had never stopped searching for her. Suddenly, another voice came from the doorway. "So she's the famous missing daughter." Everyone turned. A tall young man in a tailored navy suit stood there with his hands in his pockets. He looked to be around twenty-eight. His sharp jawline, piercing blue eyes, and confident posture made him impossible to ignore. Ava noticed immediately that he looked strikingly similar to Adrian. Victoria smiled with relief. "Lucas, thank goodness you're here." The young man ignored his mother. Instead, he walked straight toward Ava. He studied her face for several seconds before speaking. "So..." A faint smile appeared on his lips. "I finally get to meet my little sister."
