Chapter 2: The Broken Seal

The throne room fell silent.
Kael stood with his sword raised, staring at the man who claimed to be his father.
King Valen stepped backward.
“Impossible…” he whispered. “The Shadow King was destroyed twenty years ago.”
Kael’s father smiled.
“Destroyed? No. Hidden.”
Dark energy spread across the floor.
Mira grabbed Kael’s arm. “We need to get out of here!”
Before they could move, King Valen raised his hand.
Hundreds of soldiers surrounded them.
“Kael!” Ren shouted. “Behind you!”
A massive knight attacked.
Kael blocked the strike, but the force sent him crashing into the wall.
His sword broke.
The soldiers laughed.
“He has no Fate Seal,” one of them said. “He can't win.”
Kael slowly stood.
He looked at his broken sword.
Then something strange happened.
A black mark appeared on his hand.
His eyes began to glow.
The broken sword lifted from the ground and transformed into a blade of dark blue energy.
Everyone froze.
King Valen's expression changed.
“The Shadow Seal…”
Kael stared at his hand.
“I thought I didn't have a Fate Seal.”
His father answered:
“You don't.”
Kael looked confused.
“You have something far more dangerous.”
The Shadow King pointed toward the ceiling.
“You have the Broken Fate.”
Suddenly, the entire throne room began shaking.
The Fate Seals of every soldier started glowing uncontrollably.
Some soldiers dropped their weapons.
Others fell to their knees.
Kael realized something terrifying.
His power wasn't controlling fate.
It was breaking it.
King Valen screamed, “Stop him!”
The soldiers rushed forward.
Kael swung his new blade.
A wave of energy spread across the room.
The soldiers' Fate Seals disappeared.
One by one, they became ordinary people.
Ren stared in disbelief.
“You just destroyed their powers…”
Kael looked at his hand.
“I didn't mean to.”
His father stepped toward him.
“That is why they fear you.”
Suddenly, the castle walls exploded.
A giant creature emerged from the darkness.
Its body was covered in black armor, and its eyes burned like stars.
The Shadow King looked up.
“The first Herald has arrived.”
Kael tightened his grip on the energy sword.
“What is that?”
His father looked at him seriously.
“The beginning of the war.”
The creature roared.
Windows shattered throughout the kingdom.
Far away, thousands of dark figures appeared on the horizon.
Mira stepped beside Kael.
“Whatever happens, we're staying together.”
Ren raised his Flame Seal.
“And I'm not letting you fight alone.”
Kael looked at his friends.
Then he looked toward the approaching army.
For the first time, he wasn't afraid of his destiny.
He was ready to create his own.
