SHADOW OF FATE

Chapter 9: The Battle of Two Worlds

The Shadow Realm was falling apart.

Black clouds twisted above the ancient fortress while cracks of glowing energy spread across the ground.

Kael stood between his mother and the Shadow King.

Nightfall burned with dark energy in his hand, while the Crystal of Light floated beside him.

The Shadow King raised his weapon.

"Show me what the Heart of Fate has given you."

Kael took a deep breath.

"I'll show you what I choose to do with it."

The Shadow King attacked.

Their weapons collided.

BOOM!

The shockwave tore through the fortress walls.

Kael was pushed backward, but he quickly recovered.

He moved forward again.

Light and darkness followed every movement of his sword.

For the first time, the Shadow King looked uncertain.

"You are learning quickly."

Kael answered, "I'm not fighting alone."

Suddenly, a bright portal opened behind him.

Mira, Ren, and Arkon stepped through.

"Kael!"

Kael looked back in surprise.

"You came?"

Mira smiled.

"We told you we'd stay together."

Ren raised his weapon.

"And you didn't seriously think we'd let you fight the Shadow King alone, did you?"

Kael smiled.

"Thank you."

The Shadow King looked at them.

"How touching."

He lifted his hand.

Hundreds of shadow warriors appeared across the battlefield.

Arkon stepped forward.

"Then let's finish this."

The battle began.

Ren charged into the shadow warriors.

Mira created barriers of light around the group.

Arkon fought beside them, using his spear to keep the enemies away.

Kael focused on the Shadow King.

Their battle moved across the ruined fortress.

The Shadow King suddenly released a massive wave of darkness.

Kael raised the Crystal of Light.

A wall of light appeared.

The two powers collided.

For a moment, neither side moved.

Then Kael heard the whisper again.

"Use both."

He understood.

He wasn't supposed to choose between light and darkness.

He had to control them together.

Kael closed his eyes.

The light from the Crystal flowed into Nightfall.

The dark sword changed.

Its black blade became surrounded by silver light.

The Shadow King stepped backward.

"No..."

Kael opened his eyes.

"This is my fate."

He swung the sword.

A massive wave of energy struck the Shadow King.

The Shadow King crashed through the fortress wall.

But before Kael could celebrate, the Heart Guardian roared.

The entire battlefield froze.

The creature spread its enormous wings.

A strange symbol appeared on its chest.

Mira looked at it.

"That's the Heart of Fate."

The Heart Guardian opened its mouth.

A powerful beam of energy shot toward the ground.

Everyone scattered.

The beam struck the battlefield, creating a massive crater.

Kael looked at the creature.

"Why is it attacking us?"

His mother answered:

"Because the Heart of Fate doesn't belong to anyone."

Kael frowned.

"Then what does it want?"

She looked at him.

"Freedom."

The Heart Guardian suddenly flew toward the sky.

The Shadow King rose from the ruins.

He looked at Kael.

"Do you see it now?"

Kael lowered his sword.

"You were never trying to control the Heart."

The Shadow King shook his head.

"I wanted to destroy it."

Kael stared at him.

"Why?"

The Shadow King looked toward the creature.

"Because as long as the Heart exists, someone will always try to control fate."

For the first time, Kael understood the Shadow King's true goal.

The Shadow King wasn't trying to rule both worlds.

He wanted to destroy the power that had caused the war between light and darkness.

But his methods had turned him into the very darkness he hated.

Kael looked at his mother.

"Is there another way?"

She nodded.

"There may be."

The Crystal of Light began glowing.

Nightfall answered with a dark glow.

Kael raised both.

The Heart Guardian descended toward him.

The Shadow King watched silently.

Kael stepped forward.

"I won't destroy the Heart."

He looked at the creature.

"And I won't control it."

The Heart Guardian lowered its head.

Kael continued:

"I'll set it free."

Suddenly, the Heart of Fate opened.

A brilliant light exploded across both worlds.

The Shadow Realm and Eldoria became connected by a massive bridge of energy.

Everyone stopped fighting.

The shadow warriors lowered their weapons.

The sky became calm.

But then a new voice echoed across the worlds.

"You have awakened what should have remained asleep."

Kael looked upward.

A gigantic figure appeared beyond the clouds.

Even the Shadow King looked frightened.

His voice was barely a whisper.

"The First Shadow..."

Kael tightened his grip on his sword.

"What is the First Shadow?"

The Shadow King looked at him.

"The being that existed before light."

The enormous figure opened its eyes.

And the entire world fell silent.
