The next morning, I opened the wardrobe and found the dress hanging inside, tags still attached, and every crease carefully pressed away. I looked back at Julian as he drank his coffee at the table. In his usual practical tone, he only said, "It's cold today. Layer up." I loved the tiramisu from a small dessert shop on the east side of town. No matter how late Julian finished work, he went out of his way to bring me one. The shop closed at 9:00 pm. If he was running late, he would call ahead and persuade the owner to stay open another 10 minutes. One night, rain fell so heavily that the road was almost invisible. I texted him not to get one. He did not reply. Shortly before 10:00 pm, he came through the door soaked, his hair plastered to his forehead and water dripping from his trouse
