My brother, Ethan Carter, and his best friend, Ryan Hayes, both fell hopelessly in love with Chloe Seth, a volunteer teacher.

Chloe chose Ethan, but she felt guilty about hurting Ryan. Determined to ease her guilt, she did everything she could to push Ryan and me together.

At the time, I knew nothing about the complicated relationship between the three of them. I married Ryan with my heart full of hope.

The marriage became a nightmare almost immediately. Whenever Ethan and Chloe fought, Ryan took all his anger out on me.

When Ethan met with a female business partner during a trip and Chloe became jealous, Ryan brought a beautiful influencer home for the night just to hurt me.

When Ethan took Chloe to a gala and people mocked her unfashionable appearance, Ryan dragged me to a nightclub. He dressed me in the most humiliating outfit he could find and paraded me in front of a crowd of men.

Later, Chloe suffered a miscarriage and was told she would never be able to have children.

Ryan went mad with rage. He pushed me, seven months pregnant, out of a second-floor window.

"Your brother stole the woman I loved most. If Chloe hadn't wanted peace of mind, I never would have looked at you twice."

When I opened my eyes again, I traveled back to the day Chloe tried to set me up with him.

Chapter 1
I kept my expression cold and cut her off. "My mom's already lined up a blind date for me. You can spare yourself the trouble." Chloe Seth blinked, clearly caught off guard. "Ryan is handsome, thoughtful, funny, and comes from a good family. No one else could compare to him." As she spoke, Ryan Hayes could not take his eyes off her. I sneered inwardly. In my last life, I'd been a complete fool. I had secretly loved Ryan since childhood. When Chloe offered to set us up in my previous life, I had been grinning like an i***t and never noticed what she was really doing. Now, hearing her gush about him, I snapped back without hesitation. "You can't stop praising him. If I didn't know better, I'd think you were in love with him." The moment I said that, my mom's expression darkened, and Ethan Hart looked at Chloe with sudden suspicion. I wouldn't blame him for getting suspicious. I only found out on my deathbed in my last life that he and Ryan had met Chloe at the exact time. The two wealthy young men had volunteered as teachers in a remote mountain town. When local thugs tried to extort them, Chloe happened to pass by and called the police. After that, the three of them spent more than half a year together in that place. Chloe kept Ryan interested while flirting with Ethan, refusing to give either man a clear answer. Only after they returned to the city and she compared their family backgrounds did she finally choose Ethan. Even then, she claimed Ryan would never accept her relationship with Ethan. She insisted that she could not marry into the Carter family with a clear conscience until she had personally seen Ryan find someone else. That was why she was now trying so hard to pair him with me. By pointing out her obvious fixation on Ryan, I had given Ethan every reason to doubt her. Sure enough, her eyes instantly reddened, as if on cue. "I've worked so hard to find the perfect man for you, Nora. You know I only love Ethan. How could you accuse me of something like that?" I let out a scornful laugh. "My mom and my brother are sitting right here. What gives you, an outsider, the right to stick your nose into my love life?" In an instant, tears streamed down Chloe's cheeks. "You women from the city are so calculating. Ethan and Ryan know me well. I grew up in the country. I say what I mean, and I don't play games." My mom became even more furious when she heard that. Ryan could never bear to see Chloe cry. He immediately turned on me with a contemptuous sneer. "Nora, you graduated from one of the best universities. How can you fail to understand something so simple? No wonder everyone says you're arrogant and impossible to please. Keep this up and no one will ever want you." My mom hurled her cup at him. "Who the hell do you think you are? How dare you speak to my daughter that way? Scolding her right under my nose? Do you think we're nothing but a bunch of pushovers?"
