Chapter 31: You’re so Dead

1383 Words
Cray who was now feeling the same sensations as Nick felt the same pangs of pain that made him writhe as he continued to scream out. Although Cray had recently gone through various pains to get to where he was now, it still did not compare to what he was experiencing right now. To put it into contrast, it was like the difference of getting hit by a train and by getting shot by a gun. If you were hit by a bullet then you would probably die a quick death if hit in the head, however, if you were to be hit by the former then you would feel your organs and limbs getting crushed and the sad thing about it was that since Nick was trying to resist it, Cray cannot pass out to end the suffering. To put it into perspective, then it would be feeling excruciating non-stop pain. Pain so terrifying that it wouldn't let you pass out as it lets you thoroughly feel it while being conscious. Not being able to move nor being able to think, with the only capability left was just to do nothing else but scream, to seek hope, to try and resist but alas it was all for nothing as black marks begun to spread all around Nick's body starting from his chest slowly eating away at his body. For a brief moment, it seemed to Cray as if a long time has passed but in reality, it was just a brief period as these patches of black marks spread out to his arms, legs, and neck all within ten breaths making them appear pitch black. This further escalated until eventually only Nick's face was left uncovered. Cray who had also undergone a near-death experience could only say that the previous experience wouldn't hold a candle to this moment. He could no longer think straight. All he could think about was to think of a way to quickly stop feeling the pain. His thoughts had spiraled between dying for him to no longer feel the pain and to enduring it hoping that it might suddenly disappear. He didn't know since when he had thought of enduring this kind of pain. He didn't know why but he felt that he needed to protect something. He also hadn't noticed it yet, but Nick's inner thoughts had long stopped appearing as if they were another consciousness in his mind, it was as if he had merged with it while enduring the suffering. I WON'T YIELD! His thoughts had completely changed, he and Nick were now one. However, unbeknownst to him was the fact that this was where the Trial of Fire truly begins. "You are to take on everything." Cray was vaguely reminded of the words that he heard from the rude man. He had fully begun experiencing what Nick is experiencing. "Hou, you are amazing, to be physically and mentally fit enough to become a demon's contractor. As expected of that man's son. He raised you well, too bad you met me." An amused voice could be heard. Nick was now giving out loud and heavy consecutive deep breaths, he had managed to break free. But even if he had managed to break free from the pain that he had experienced earlier, he currently couldn't even lift a finger. The demon who was watching Nick's struggle then commanded the previous assailant using an incomprehensible language. A crystal that shone in a faint black light then appeared from the demon's chest and headed towards the female assailant. The woman who had received the crystal revealed a very sinister smile as she stared at Nick who was vulnerably lying on the floor. "DIE!" She screamed as she took the sword that she had materialized from the thin air. Nick who saw this had a helpless look on his face. At this moment he thought that it might finally be the end of him and his struggle. So, he closed his eyes as he had no other choice but to resign to his fate. *TING* A silver streak of light had appeared from the east blocking out the woman from further hurting Nick. Seeing the sword, Nick turned his line of sight towards the oncoming sound of footsteps only to see Rebecca. "Sir Nicholas, are you alright?!" A worried voice came from the lady who was hurrying towards him. "Rebecca!" He couldn't believe how happy he was just by being able to see her. Seeing her facia features, Cray once again recalled her and his memories overlapped with Nick and figured that Rebecca was the female who had offered Nick some water at the party, she was just about eight years older than Nick and she works as an assistant to Nick's father. On her hand was a glimmering silver ring. "Tch! Another bug got in my way." The demon looked pissed. He became irritated after seeing countless unexpected things happen. He should've already had taken over Nick's body if not for the restriction that was placed upon him. This demon was the same being that had appeared earlier on to attack Nick when he was in the forest with his little brother and was sealed once again by his father only for it to reappear once again. It also appeared that the demon was still not completely free from the seal that Nick's father has done as it was still using a secondary body to execute its biddings instead of acting by itself. That, however, was not the only reason the demon was irritated. The demon had long sensed that it was no match with Nick's father, so it had decisively made a gamble with his life on the line, it was a go big or go home gamble which implicated its existence. If he were to manage to take over Nick's body, then he would have made a natural defense as he could take Nick's body as a hostage to fight against Nick's father for revenge after all those years that it had been sealed. However, if he were to fail, then his powers would not only be taken away from him, his life would be extinguished.  "Sir Nick, please don't move your body, it would only worsen your condition if you were to continue to move. Please calm yourself down. The Count has already cleaned up the monster outbreak and is now heading towards here. It's going to be okay now, I promise." Rebecca swiftly reached Nick's unmovable body and had set up a defensive stance in an attempt to hold her ground while preparing in the case of any enemy attacks. Cray who had been looking at Rebecca's figure had managed to recall Hannah's mother. The woman in front of him and the mother of Hannah had greatly resembled each other. He was surprised to see the younger version of Hannah's mother as he couldn't figure out how she was connected to his father. He then saw the close relationship between Nick and Rebecca. A thought quickly flashed through his mind. Could this person be?........ No way.......If she was then wouldn't that mean that I... *BOOM* Cray was once again dragged back into the real world when he heard something falling from the sky. A large crater was formed because of the sudden impact. Smoke started rising from the tiny crater. "You sure have dug your grave this time, you demon!" A person's silhouette appeared from the smoke. He was Nick's father. Walter, the wielder of the hottest flames among those of the Einder Bloodline. Walter then took out a thin sword as he walked towards the demon. Blue flames had appeared on the surface of the sword. "I take it that you're already prepared to die!" A murderous gaze fell upon the demon. Walter had already made a stance that looked as if he was ready to pounce on an enemy at any moment. "GAHAHAHAHAHAHA! YOU CAN'T KILL ME!" The demon laughed as he pointed out the black patches of skin that had once again started to react. This time, half of Nick's face was enveloped by the darkness. "Nicholas!" Walter immediately ran towards his son but was blocked by the female assailant as she attacked him. "You're not going anywhere!" She shouted as she made a series of fast attacks that made afterimages. "GET OUT OF MY WAY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET BURNED!" Walter ruthlessly went straight forwards disregarding any threat that the female assailant might pose against him.
