Chapter 32: Hell Flames

1313 Words
In this perilous moment, Nick had been able to think clearly. He finds it weird that he had managed to remain calm despite the current situation. Aside from that, he could also feel that his body was getting filled up with some strange power from an unknown source. The more the black patch on his skin spreads the more he felt like he was getting basked in the strange power. From the beginning, he had resisted this kind of power. He instinctively felt afraid of this power that had been continuously trying to override his control over his own body. "BURN!" Nick's father said as he began to unleash a fearsome attack against the female assailant with his thin sword that was covered in blue flames. The female assailant, however, had managed to dodge the attack and had even made a counter which was blocked by Nick's father. However, the moment Nick heard his father's voice he had a spark of an idea. He remembered the training that his father taught him and Gilbert when they were younger. 'Heat, fire, the power to melt. That's it! I could just simply burn out this darkness that's trying to devour me!' That moment has been the deciding factor that dictated the fate of the demon. As the demon had made a contract with Nick too quickly, it had neglected the possibility of Nick overriding his control. Unfortunately for the demon, its power had only allowed it to put on one clause and that was to give Nick the power that he so desired. The demon's plan was simple and that was to use the power that he had given Nick to override his will and eventually take control of this young and tender body with a lot of potential for becoming a worth vessel. However, he had underestimated Nick's sheer will, endurance, and capability. He thought that it would just be as easy as taking candy from a baby, but he was proven wrong again and again. How could he accept this! It was simply unbelievable that a measly brat can have this much will! This little child that he wanted to take advantage of had even started to figure out the hole in his plan and wanted to use it for himself by just converting the power that he had given him into something new and exclusive only to Nick. On the other hand, Nick who was previously suffering started to use his wits and tried to control the influx of power that was assaulting him in the form of the black markings on his body. Merely moments ago, he was unable to focus as he was pressured by the presence of the Demon and the fact that his life, along with his brother was in danger but now he was able to have a peace of mind and had started rebelling against the power that was consuming him from the inside. If he was able to completely usurp the control of power then he would be able to take the demon's power as his own. The demon who had noticed that poured out its all as it tried to contest Nick for control as he felt that his demonic powers were slowly being melted and limited to only what Nick could handle. "CURSE YOU!" He could only see his demise if he continues his current progress. His plan had long gone awry. At this point, he decided to kill Nick instead and take control of Gilbert's body as despite it being weaker, it will still have the same effect as him having a natural hostage. Nick suddenly felt light. His body that previously felt like it had weights tying it down now felt as light as a feather. He saw that the demon who had been previously pressuring him had switched its attention as the influx of power had been weakened to a significant degree. 'This is my chance! I've got to get rid of this before he manages to recover!' Having psyched himself up, Nick glanced at his father and looked at Rebecca who had joined his father to fight the female assailant. Lastly, he gazed at his brother. He was brimming with energy. He could finally see it. An ending, a bright ending! His expression which had earlier shown extreme eagerness had begun to look sour as he saw the same black patches on his brother.   "NO! GILBERT!" He screamed. He had figured out why the pressure on him was weakened, it wasn't because the demon was slowly weakening, it had just simply shifted its target from him to his brother. "What? What happened to Gilbert!" Nick's father was momentarily distracted when he heard his son shout. In that split second, he had looked at his two children instead of looking at his enemy. Although it was just a split second, his enemy didn't want to waste the opportunity, so the female assailant used the chance and had stabbed him. Blood spurted out from his left shoulder. The female assailant's attack had missed any vital points as he was agile enough to be able to turn his body to the side and avoid being instantly killed. Rebecca, who saw this, had a shocked expression on her face. She hadn't been able to defend the attack for him because she was slower than the female assailant so all she could do was watch the current scene. She, however, could still see that the opponent was temporarily surprised because she hadn't been able to hit the target squarely at the heart. Seeing this, Rebecca no longer hesitated and prepared to land a finishing blow to the enemy, decapitating her. "Sir Count!" She rushed towards Cray's father as soon as she killed the female assailant. "Don't worry about me. Immediately take care of my sons!" He shouted as he also went towards both of his sons. "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! This time, you're the one who's going to lose!" The demon showed an elated face. He was just a couple of seconds away from fully controlling Gilbert's body. "You're too late! Too bad, you even got injured!" The demon had a malicious look on his face as he uttered those words. "Let's settle this out once and for all." The demon smiled with his sharp teeth. He's convinced that he no longer has any reason to lose. After saying that, Gilbert's body that was previously lying down while sweating now had undone the rope tying him to the ground. His body was colored pitch black. His eyes had a wild and ferocious glint. His mouth was uttering incomprehensible words and would at times shout out loud enough that it would make one's ears bleed. "NOOO!" An immense aura had blasted forth from Nick's body. His eyes nearly turning red from being sore. The moment he had seen his father getting hurt, the pain that his father's eyes had expressed. He couldn't take it all in. Even his little brother who had previously been sleeping soundly was now screaming in pain while also being in the same situation as him. He then shortly remembered that he had once made a promise to his mother before she died, it was along the lines of him making sure that he would protect Gilbert and guarantee that he lives happily. Now, he had his entire world crashing down on him. He knew that he could no longer protect his little brother, it was too late. All he wanted right now was to kill the demon who had done this to him. He swore in his heart that he would get rid of this foul creature. The demon who had sensed this aura that was now being emitted by Nick was astonished. He was astonished not only by the sudden appearance of this aura but also by how much his powers seemed like it was being sucked into oblivion. If only demons had sweat glands, then he would be sweating right now as even he needs to admit that this current predicament was dangerous beyond measure.
