Chapter 16: Shield

When Ye Chen heard that the owner of Golden Bullet Company was the woman talking to him he couldn't help but smile. It was a very pleasant surprise. "Miss Anastasia, I just want to ask, why hadn't you made contact till now?" Ye Chen asked. "Do you want me to be blunt? It was because there was no merit in doing it!" Anastasia told Ye Chen as she looked at him smugly. "Did you really think that your little rebellion would contest the empire's military prowess?" Ye looking a bit disturbed didn't say anything. In fact, he agreed with her, he too did not think that he could win over the empire with merely his own military force that he gathered to start a rebellion. As a person of wit, he would not even have thought of trying to stage a rebellion if he didn't think that he had a chance of winning. It may sound contradictory if someone were to listen in on his thoughts, however, his plans did not merely include a rebellion. His vision was great and he had far greater plans. "Then I guess you've started contact now because you see yourself profiting?" Ye Chen who recognized that he had the upper hand in terms of negotiations replied to her with a somewhat cold voice. He believed that for this woman to contact him would mean that she was also opportunistic in nature as she would only do so if there was some sort of gain for her as a merchant. This meant that he had something that she could profit from. Anastasia began to laugh, she laughed hard enough that it almost made her tear up. Her actions were being considered rude in the eyes of Ye Chen, but he didn't let it get to him as he remained calm and continued waiting on what she would say. Anastasia began to explain, "I'd like you to first know that I've been living right in the middle of the Central Continent and I've managed to take control of nearly forty percent of the underground forces, that by itself is thirty percent more than what father had when he was still alive, naturally I couldn't have done it without information." Anastasia's mouth slowly arched into a curve, "And right now one of the most essential things that you need right now is exactly that information! Let me tell you this, the Einder Descendant had been captured, and is currently heading towards the Royal Palace of the Central Continent." Seeing that Ye Chen had been baited, hook, line, and sinker she smiled at the thought and felt consolation for giving away some information for free. After she said that Ye Chen had a serious look on his face as he tried to think of how the whole plan would fail if the Einder Descendant was not there. He was very frustrated at the fact that the lady before him was still making a wide grin. "If you're saying this to me then I suppose you have a plan?" Ye Chen gave up thinking and had instead asked Anastasia. "Of course! Why else did you think I called you for?" Anastasia made this remark as she started telling Ye Chen about how they'd rescue Cray. Meanwhile, Cray was talking with his father. "Cray, do you know why I'm here?" Nick asked Cray as he looked at him with very serious eyes. Cray shook his head. He had no clue as to why he was even there and how he would even have an idea of why his father would be here either. "You see, we have something special about us. It could be called something like a curse and at the same time a blessing." Cray's father began to look a bit sad as his eyes drooped. "What exactly is it? I can still remember Note saying that I have an Einder Bloodline. What even is Einder?" Cray asked with his eyebrows creased. He thought about how he ended up getting almost killed by the woman back in Zone 9. He didn't want to have this kind of curse. If only he didn't have this curse, then he may have already joined the training course for the future knights. His father explained to him, "You see here, those who awaken the Einder Blood would get immense power, but all this comes with a price. If you were to use it without thinking, then your consciousness might be swallowed by The Great Einder. That's what happened to your grandfather. The reason why I died was also related to that power. "  He looked sad when he mentioned Cray's grandfather and Cray had noticed it. He didn't even know his grandfather, but he was sympathetic. He too had known what it was like to feel the loss of someone that he once held dear to him.  After saying such, his father began to channel his power. "Son, every descendant if this bloodline will generate their own armament that will develop as you continue to grow old. The one that I manifested was the power to turn my flames to strengthen my defense." He then smiled as he rubbed Cray's hair saying "I'm going to teach you how to use this power. You're going to need it, especially when you wake up. You are after all with the enemy." "Ha?" When Cray heard that he was stupefied as he had lost consciousness even before Stan had managed to escape so he didn't know the current situation. He asked his father "Please explain it, I don't think I understand, I could still remember Stan fighting the empire soldiers.......STAN! Wait don't tell me he died?" Cray unknowingly shouted out loud. "Nah, he didn't die. He managed to escape at the last minute. Though he thinks he rescued you, what he got was the one who was mimicking you." Nick then told Cray to focus. "Cray, I don't have enough time. I don't think Note has enough energy reserves to continue creating this temporal space." Cray decided to shut his mouth and just listen to what his father would say. He got the gist of the situation and he knew how dangerous it would become if he continued without preparations. "To use my power, you'd have to at least reach the first stage, which is called the Brace. To do so you first need to remain calm and focus your energy on your arm." Nick then made a pose, he took a step forward with his right foot, he bent his knees, and finally, he stretched his right arm. "After doing so, you'll need to say the chant. The shield is my domain, I alone shall ordain!" After saying so, A large metallic shield burst forth from the flames that his fist produced. Red flames burned as if giving life to the dark-colored pavise shield. "A-Amazing!" Cray was speechless, he carefully looked at the large shield adorned with spikes. He asked, "Will I really be able to do that?" He muttered as he tried to mimic the pose. "The Shield is my domain, I alone shall ordain!" When he said that some flames flickered on his fist, and a small buckler shield appeared in his right arm. "Eh?" He looked a bit disappointed. He started to look at what his father conjured and what he had repeatedly. "Why doesn't it look the same?"
