10:56 AM the next day… Charles was about to go to the bathroom to shower when his phone beeped… it was a text message from his boss. Charles frowned after reading the content of the text message. It was a message from his boss. He dialled his number, immediately after reading the message. The phone rang twice before a cold voice sounded from the other end of the phone… “I had no choice but to make that decision . It is to save our company's name… click on the link I sent to your w******p and you'll understand… I'm very sorry Mr Charles. It's the company's decision, not mine entirely.” Khalid explained. It's only been a few hours since he caught his wife cheating and yet another bad news had arrived; he was just fired from work. Despite him asking for the reason, Khalid said nothing, but insisted that he click on the link he sent. As expected, it was a video of his wife having a podcast session with two of the most popular presenters in the country, Connor and Gregory. The topic being discussed is “Unfaithfulness in marriages”. Layla was invited as a guest speaker for this show. She started out fine, narrating how she met her husband and how their love increases day by day. Charles watched the video with a frown on his face; this demoness was praising him too hard. Suddenly, she paused mid-speech. She opened her mouth to speak again, but hesitated and gave a wry smile. The presenters, seeing her hesitation, tried their best to milk the words out of her mouth, and luckily for them, they succeeded. “Alas, everything was going well until recently, when I discovered that my husband was seeing another woman. I confronted him when I saw the text message on his phone, but he denied having anything to do with the woman… “ Layla sighed, before narrating her ‘’story’ to the presenters. “I caught him many times, but I still believed in his lies… not until I saw him having s*x with another woman on our matrimonial bed. I confronted him again this time, but I didn't expect what he said next.” Layla sniffed. Streams of tears were already coming out of her eyes as she paused for her words to take the desired effect. “He now wants a divorce…sniff… knowing full well that I have fallen to a stage where I can't live without him. I don't care if he's cheating or not… I just want to be with the loving Charles I married… I'm not saying this to blame or condemn him, but I just want to seek advice from the netizens on how to keep my marriage.” Layla said, as she took out a hanky from her bag, to wipe the tears on her face. The video was still playing, but Charles, who was now filled with anger, didn't care to watch or listen to her lies anymore. He flung the phone to the side, took a quick shower and drove off in his old car, about to go confront Layla on the lies she told on her podcast. Upon reaching his wife's company, Charles noticed that the people he met at the company's parking lot were looking at him with contempt. Some were even pointing at him. “Hello, please I'm looking for Layla parkfield.” Charles said to the receptionist. The young lady at the reception squinted her eyes when she saw him approach, then she fiddled with her phone a little bit before looking at him a second time. “I’m sorry, she's not around. She's attending a very important meeting, you'll have to come back another day.” The young lady said. The smile she was wearing had now disappeared, replaced with a disdainful look. “You're new here right? Just call and tell her that her husband is looking for her,” “I'm sorry sir, But I can't let you break her heart a second time. Please leave!” The receptionist replied with a firm voice, gesturing for him to leave the premises. While still talking to the receptionist, Layla came out of her office. Her eyes were watery and her nose was red. “What else do you want from me? You shameless man. After everything you've done to me, you still have the guts to come looking for me!!! “What else do you want me to do that I've not yet done?! Sniff… I've made up my mind, you can bring the divorce papers and let me sign… I'm done forcing myself on you,” Layla Said. Tears were now flowing freely from her eyes as she asked. Charles was just standing there, looking at her in bewilderment. She made the whole story sound as if he was the one in the wrong. If he should go on with the divorce, the whole world would label him as a bad person, he would become a social pariah. If he didn't go through with the divorce, his image would still be spoiled, but he'd still have hope of changing the people's opinion of him by showing care and love towards his wife. The internet never forgets, but with time, they'd turn a blind eye to his blemished past and focus on the loving husband he's now become. “The court order would be delivered to you in no time, see you in Court,” Charles said, then turned back to leave. Layla has clearly dominated the game , with the idea of using the media against him. Left with no choice, Charles left the place with the abuses and curses of Layla's co-workers raining behind him. On his way home, Charles received a call from a strange number. He picked the call, and a familiar voice sounded from the other end of the phone; a voice he had not heard for more than a year now. “Hello young master…” the caller greeted. “Good day Brad, to what do I owe this phone call?” Charles smiled, “you've heard the news of my failure, haven't you?” “Words travel faster around here, haha” Brad laughed. “Since you know the reason why I'm calling, I wouldn't beat around the bush any longer. Old master wants to know when you'll be coming home to fulfil the other end of your bet.”
