His grandfather wants him to inherit, and run the family business in the future. so he gave him a subsidiary company to manage. Everything was going well, until one of his grandfather's business clients, a giant in the business industry, proposed an arranged marriage between the two families, to further solidify their bond and aid better collaboration. Charles’ grandfather, Klaus Brooks accepted the deal and promised to let Charles marry the other party's granddaughter. But Charles disagreed and asked his grandfather to give him a chance to find true love outside. He made a bet with his grandfather that if he should find true love, Klaus would let him marry and settle down with her. If he failed, he'd come back home and obediently listen to his grandfather's instructions. Surprisingly for him, Klaus accepted the bet. But he must first leave everything behind and start from scratch outside. All his accounts were frozen and his subordinates and valuables were taken away from him. Charles met Layla while he was job hunting, they met at the reception of his former company. Layla went there as a contractor, while he was there to seek a job. By chance, they bumped into each other at the company's entrance. One thing led to another and they started dating. For Charles, it was love at first sight, not knowing that Layla has an ulterior motive for marrying him. The court hearing was tomorrow morning where they'll table their divorce issues and the reason for divorce. Now that the issue has been made public, the netizens and all of Layla's sympathisers were interested in the outcome of the court hearing. Some had even promised to go live during the court hearing, for those that were unable to make it to court due to distance or work. That same day, Charles drove to Greenfield Park where a middle-aged man was already waiting for him. “Welcome, young Master” the man bowed. “Long time no see, Brad!” Charles hugged the middle-aged man and led him to the park's lake. A young man was carrying two fishing rods and a small container behind them. While fishing, Brad handed Charlie a black card, “Your account has been unfrozen and you also have access to all your valuables and the L&P pharmaceutical company here in Wisconsin, is yours to manage.” “I wouldn't be able to stay with you for long, as the old master still had other things for me to take care of… farewell. We'd be waiting for your arrival.” After 30 minutes, Brad stood up and left the place. Charles didn't bother to see him off. He fished out his phone from his pocket and dialled a number. The phone rang twice before the other person picked up. “Hello boss… “ a baritone voice sounded from the other end of the call. “Hello jafad, I need you to do one thing for me…” … 10AM the next day… The courtroom was filled with their family friends and some of Layla's employees, who wanted to witness the whole process. About twenty people were there to witness the divorce process. They were first asked why they wanted to divorce. Layla was shedding crocodile tears while telling super stories to the audience, “Though my husband has changed and he doesn't want me anymore, but I still love him and I would want our relationship to continue, my lord.” The family judge sighed, feeling sympathetic towards Layla as she heard her story. But she must act professional. “Alright, you may sit,” the judge Said. Then turned to Charles. “Mr Charles Brooks, what made you think divorce is the best option in your case? According to divorce law, your marriage is less than a Year old, so you can't file for divorce… except there's a valid reason… and also, what do you have to say to the cheating allegations laid against you by your wife? Is it true?” “Non of it is true, your honour. And the reason why I'm filling for divorce is that my wife was cheating on me. On the 16th of this month, which happens to be the last Monday, I was coming back from work…” Charles narrated what he witnessed that day without leaving anything out. The judge asked Layla to confirm if the allegation is true or not, but Layla denied everything, except for the pregnancy. “Your honor, I am four months pregnant and the baby belongs to Charles. He acted weird when I broke the news to him. He even slapped my face that same day, and I have evidence to back it up.” Layla said, the she proceeded to connect her phone to to court's projector and a video of her inspecting a large palm print on her face was played. They argued back and forth for more than 1 hour and the winning probability has been tilting towards Layla's side due to lack of enough evidence on Charles’ side. Layla Even brought a witness to testify against Charles. After swearing the oath, Mr Frederick began to give his testimony,” on that day, I came to visit Miss Layla for official purposes. I was about to leave when her husband arrived and started to abuse her…” The lawyer looked at both couples before preparing to give her verdict. She was talking when someone rushed inside the courtroom. The court security tried to restrain the newcomer, but he overpowered them and ran to Charles’ stand and offered him a brown file with bowed head. “Sorry for coming late, young master!” It was Jafad, the guy he called the other day. It didn't take long before the security dragged him off the courtroom.
