Everard

Waylon       “What are you doing now? Haven’t you learned the lesson already?” I scolded Dawn as soon as we approached her. I was glad mom and dad didn’t see her, and I was trying to pay attention to when she came back. This girl was going to give them a heart attack.      “Stop exaggerating Waylon. I am fine and I am sure mom and dad are sleeping” she replied, but when we were  walking in, grandpa was standing at the foyer.      “They might be sleeping, but I am not. Dawn, you need to stop being such a rebel and listen to your parents” he said and I could see her roll her eyes.       “I’m sorry grandpa. But something exciting happened to me. I met my mate”       He looked at her shocked and urged us to go with him to the throne hall. I walked in before he locked the door. I had a little curiosity peeking through. Wylard wanted nothing to do with it, so he left straight to his room.       “Who is it? We haven’t noticed you catching any interest in the young gargoyles here” he asked and I knew if she mentioned her mate was none of the gargoyles here, they would all go nuts. Something tells me he is from somewhere else, or even something else.      “Just someone I met in the woods”       “You know you’re not supposed to go in the woods. And who did you see that you think is your mate?” He asked curiously.     “His name is Rhett. He is a....human?” she said the last part in a high pitched voice and that instantly alarmed him. He called the guards and they were ordered to patrol the woods at once. I walked over and put my hand on her shoulder.      “Grandpa, do you want me and Wylard to go with them? We are humans ourselves and if we find this person, we can talk to him”      “There is no talking to him. There was not supposed to be any humans left after they went back to their world. Unless...” his expression changed from calm to uneasy “gather some warriors and head to the cliffs”     “I want to go with you grandpa!” Dawn begged, but he was not having it. He sent her to her room and ordered a warrior by the door and one by the window, so not even Cicely can help her escape.       He let me go with him to help with the hunt. Wylard would not come down to help us, so we decided to go ourselves. He needed to get over his fears and start helping, Dawn would not have a warrior like him and our job would be to protect her. As we were heading to the woods, the warriors were alert to any weird sound they could catch up on.      I was looking around to see if I could notice any movement in the trees. We reached the cliff, and grandpa looked down to the ocean. “Just as I imagined. They had opened the portal. It won’t be long before someone else finds it from the other side, but I am sure we already have a human here, if not more” he said and letting Alard come out, he flew down to the portal.       I could only watch from the top, trying to make out what the portal looked like. Since we were born, we heard stories of the humans invading Gargodom, and how my family dealt with them. Alard goes back up.     "What is next, then?" I asked, my expression changing from confused, to angry. Whoever crossed that portal came to hurt my family and our people, and I was not going to let them get away with it.      "We have to find whoever crossed the portal. And we won't rest until we do!" Alard growled, echoing through the woods. The warriors dispersed, and he approached me. "You will be in charge of this. I want them, alive"      I nodded and headed to the north side of the woods with the rest of the Warriors left to be assigned. We had so many of them, that I always wondered how they almost couldn’t deal with the humans back then. We searched the north side, but there was no luck. Suddenly, I stopped in my tracks. I could hear sudden movement to our left.       Everyone stayed quiet and I kept going towards the sound. When I approached the spot where it was coming from, a big gargoyle came out of there. He looked like he was bad omen. His wings were black, with golden streaks, his horns looked twisted and broken, his eyes were the color of blood and his tail was big enough to split someone in two.       He knocked me over and the warriors quickly shifted to their own beasts, hovering with him while I took my strength to get up. I am thankful I didn’t bring Wylard with me, he would have ruined our plans with his screams. He hovered around, trying to scare me, but I was not easily intimidated. He was a menace and we had to stop him.       I looked up and they Warriors surrounded him. I was finally able to get up and walked over, not getting too close to him. “Who are you and what is your business in this kingdom?” I asked, showing my leadership to the others.       He laughed and all you could see is his wings stretching, showing his dominance. “I guess I could introduce myself, my name is Everard” he replied, but that was not enough.      “Who is your human?” I asked once again, but showing him my sword. He smirked.       “You must know who I am. I am surprised your family haven’t told you already”       “I want you to tell me who you are” I asked for the last time.        He looked down and his eyes glowed like fire. “My human is Killian, and he has come to collect his debt”
