15 JESSE I woke with the scent of antiseptic in my nose, a stabbing pain in my leg, and a gloriously enchanting voice murmuring in my ear that I was safe, that everything was okay. I wanted to believe the voice, but the scent was too strong. I opened my eyes. Asher. Asher was holding me. My eyes darted around the room. I wasn't in a clinic or an examination room. I was in a home. On a raggedy green couch. That green was darker than Asher's eyes, I couldn't help but notice. My eyes darted from the couch to the four men surrounding me: Asher, Dallas, Ryan, and the man who smelled like antiseptic. "Are you okay?" Asher murmured. "You were thrashing. Was it a nightmare?"
