Chapter 11 - BBQ part 1

Chapter 11

“Hey Kiara!” Called out Liam.

“Who is he?” Mark asked as he stood right in front of me being protective.

“That was Liam my boss now calm down.” I whispered as Liam got close.

“Kiara, pleasure seeing you here. Do you mind if we chat in private?” Liam asked.

“I would rather spend time with my family.” I answered.

“I understand but it’s important. Please.” Liam said.

“Mark, please watch Alicia.” I said as I walked across the park to where Liam gestured walking.

“Look I am not in the mood Liam, first Rebecca is a b***h, then Carl wants to play a prank to which Anthony gets pissed off. Then Anthony is holding Rebecca’s legs up as she is on a counter and they are full on into it. Your workplace is unhygienic and unsafe in more ways then one. I don’t know if you noticed this but I quit.” I said straight up.

“I saw all of that on the camera and I am really sorry. I was going to ask if you would like to come back to work for me, and I would triple your pay. With you there they got more work done then usual. And I was hoping you could work every day.” Liam said.

“I can’t Liam, I am sorry but I am leaving town.” I answer then start to walk away.

“Wait please, Look Anthony is a dickhead. Before he met you he was a player and he tried to show interest in you. He never got jealous. But he thought you were dating Carl. Carl told me it was the boys plan to annoy Anthony. I understand you want to avoid them but don’t throw your life away because of a couple dickheads.” Liam answered.

“I know you don’t understand, but seeing Rebecca with him hurt me. I don’t know why. I can’t go back there Liam.” I replied.

“I will include free rent and utilities as well as food. Your family can stay in there rent free to.” Liam pleaded.

“There’s no point. The damage has been done. They leave just before I do.” I reply getting sad.

“What do you mean?” Liam asked.

“I made Mark email mom to pick him and Alicia up. Mom agreed to. They leave this weekend and then I run away from home afterwards.” I replied.

I wasn’t going to tell him when they really leave.

“I am sorry to hear that but why are they leaving and why are you running away.” Liam asked.

“If I tell you, will you promise to never tell anyone?” I asked with tears filling my eyes.

“Yes I promise, care to sit down you look like you might need to.” Said Liam gesturing to a chair under the tree.

We sat down and I looked at him.

“I was desperate for a job to save up to move. I wanted a tent to get a camp site so we had a roof over us but we weren’t having to deal with our dad. I am the one copping everything at home. But if I leave then Mark will be and Alicia will be in trouble when she is older.” I began explaining.

“Does he hurt you?” Liam asked.

“Let me explain things the way I feel like explaining it or I won’t have the courage to continue.” I say as I take a few deep breaths.

“Sorry, continue please.” Liam said.

“Dad use to be verbally abuse and sometimes physically abusive. The day before I went in to your diner, dad was out with his friends drinking. I was trying to do an art project and I needed fishing line, dad had this rule that no one touches his boat. I didn’t stand on it or touch it but I stood on the trailer frame to reach the loose line blowing, dad had pulled my hair and kept hitting me. He dragged me upstairs.” I said very sadly.

I took a few deep breaths before trying to continue.

“Dad took me upstairs to his room and locked his door. He kept hitting me and he forced himself upon me. I lost my virginity that night. Dad then threw me out of the window but I was already passed out from the blows I received to my head. I woke up naked and covered in bruising and cuts. There was still blood on me. I walked upstairs and showered, went shopping and then I went to take them home and then get the kids. That night Mark and I made the plan to get him to stop joking in school and to be serious, while I work for money to move out. After my interview with you, I walked inside the house with Mark and Alicia and my dad saw me in my moms clothes and did it again. When I got the strength I crawled to Mark and asked his help to clean me and to stay near me to help me feel safe. He helped me and every night he sleeps next to me so I feel safe. Alicia tries to join in, Mark gave her a key to my room so she can. I became a mother to Alicia when our mom left and that is why I needed the job. No offence Liam but I begged for the chance when I had a reason. I don’t have a reason now that they are leaving. I am only focusing on one day at a damn time right now, when they leave then I leave. I won’t care if I have eaten or not. I would be okay with dying. I just want them safe.” I answered honestly.

“Look I am sorry you went through that. But please give us another chance.” Liam said.

“I don’t know.” I answered.

“Look, how about you at least eat with us and then you can decide on Friday afternoon.” Liam said.

“I will answer on Saturday.” I lied to him.

“Okay now please at least just eat with us.” Liam said.

“Did you not listen about how I was hurt seeing them that way? They will hurt me more just seeing them be into each other like that.” I told Liam.

“Well, ignore them. Don’t look their way. Trust me, he will be mad but he will understand he is in the wrong. Also I made him clean the whole shop with a toothbrush after he gave it a proper clean as extra punishment.” Liam laughed.

It did make me feel better.

“Okay, well we will stick around for a bit but no longer than 45 minutes as we have to get back.” I told Liam.

“Deal.” Said Liam with a big smile on his face.

We walked back and I had wiped most of my tears, everyone looked at us and Mark got into Liam’s face.

“What did you do to her!” Mark said aggressively.

Everyone looked shocked.

“It’s okay Mark, Kiara informed me of what she has been through. She only cried to the past, not my fault I assure you. But Kiara has accepted my invitation to stay for our BBQ after I constantly persuaded her to stick around. And that means we get to know all of you.” Liam said happily.

“Your going to just let him yell at you like that?” said Rebecca.

“Look everyone is protective of their loved ones. It is only natural that Mark wants to protect his sister. So we are going to show them a good time.” Liam said.

I heard Rebecca say to some of the girls “She does that anyway.” They laughed.

I was about to say that at least I could satisfy someone but I chose not to.

“Ki swings?” Alicia asked.

I smiled and hugged her.

“Of course. Is there any other way?” I said as I carried her.

The girls with Rebecca came to the playground to sit on the monkey bars.

“Does she have to be a wannabe rebel with that dodgy hair?” said one of the girls.

“She is trying to advertise her w*********h upbringing.” Said Rebecca with a smirk
