As Damien is walking towards his sit, his sister approaches his position in a rush. “Wow big bro, that speech was wonderful, always knew you had it in you.”
“Thanks sis, just wanted to show my appreciation.” He said.
“I agree with Luna, it was superb, Alpha.” Ryder, Damiens loyal right hand man acknowledges. “ Hope you too are enjoying yourselves?” Ryder inquires rhetorically.
Ryder, passed, his expression wary. "Alpha, well your not so occupied, we may need to discuss the eastern border patrol briefly since you're partying."
Damien's instincts kicked in. "Later, Ryder. I'm celebrating tonight."
Ryder nodded and departed.
As he scanned the park, his gaze landed on a stunning young woman with piercing green eyes. She seemed lowly out of place among the crowd, yet radiated a quiet confidence.
"Who's that?" Damien asked Luna, nodding toward Nadia.
Luna followed his gaze. "Nadia, a student from the college. She's... very bright and admired but keeps to herself often."
Damien's attention was drawn to Nadia. She looked exquisite to him
"Excuse me," Damien said, handing his glass to Luna. "I need to mingle, maybe I can make her confide in me."
“Hey bro, I thought you don't do school girls, besides she's way too young, probably half your age.” Luna reminds but respectfully.
“Well, she looks familiar and I'll make an exception for this one, she has caught my attention.” Damien insisted.
“As you wish sire, have fun.” She says sarcastically and sips wine from her glass. Luna's knowing smile hinted at her awareness of Damien's true intentions.
As Damien approached Nadia, a sudden chill ran down his spine. A familiar scent wafted through the air, reminiscent of the betrayal that had nearly destroyed his pack.
"Nadia, right?" Damien inquired, extending his hand.
Their eyes locked, and the room faded into the background.
“Yes sire.” Nadia replied.
“Have I met you before, you look familiar.” Damien inquires.
“Yes sire, six days ago my cart bumped into yours.” She remembered and added,“I still feel terrible about it though.”
“Oh! so that was you, well not to worry milady everythings fine.” He tried to recall.
”Yes sire, it was me.” Replied with a smile.
“The hurrying school girl, now guess who has bumped on you tonight.”Damien jokes.
“Oh my.” She blushes while sipping her drink.
“Do you care to dance with me?” Damien asked.
“Oh my lord, I don't know if that would be appropriate?” She wondered while looking around to see if people around were watching.
“Well, I insist, it's my party after all,” he posed, “I can do what I want and be with whom I want and I choose you.” He states.
“Okay alpha, give me a moment.” She requested and gulped her entire glass of wine and stretched her arm out, “I'm ready now.”
“Let's proceed to the dance floor shall we?”, he said, taking her hand and walking her to the middle of the crowd.
They danced and danced, swayed and spinned. Damien even whirled Nadia up in the air like a bird. That dancing became the centre of attention and it attracted onlookers and other pack members with awe. As soon as he dropped her gently to the ground, everyone at the ball clapped.
“That was amazing.” Some said.
“Brilliant, splendid.” Others admired it.
“Nadia, Nadia, it's time to go home, the cart is here waiting for us.” A young vibrant male voice called from a distance.
“Oh! My lord, that would be my brother, he's here to take me home.” Nadia states.
“But the party isn't yet over, there are more drinks and food left unfinished and I'm only getting to know you better.” Damien makes her aware.
I“ really enjoyed the party this moment with you but I'd have to leave.” Nadia declared.
“If it's any consolation to you, I can order a royal cart to take you home safely, please stay a little longer.” Damien pleads.
“No Sire that won't be necessary, I don't want further attention than the one we displayed with the dance.” Nadia insisted and said,“ I also promised my parents to come back home on time, I'm really sorry but I have to leave now.”
“Well if you have to leave, no worries.” Damien approved.
“Thank you for everything tonight Alpha, I'm grateful.” Nadia says with a smile and makes her way out of the garden.
“Will I see you again?” Damien inquires.
With a smile she replies, “If you want to,” and catwalks out of his presence.
“Nadia! Come on,the cart isn't going to spend the night here is it.”Her brother shrieks.
“I'm coming brother.” Nadia responds loudly and hastens her pace.
“Well hurry up, the cart is waiting.” Her brother reminds her.
As Nadia walks out of Damien's sight, he perceives a strong scent from her it couldn't be ignored. The scent made him feel a deeper connection with her which made his feelings.
He thinks out loud to himself, “I have a strong feeling that she just might be the one.” He goes back to enjoy the rest of the ball with others.
The following morning, Damien is seen seated at the head of the table in the royal dining hall having his breakfast. All manner of delicacies are displayed on the table. His sister, Luna is seated adjacent to him on the left also partaking of their mourning banquet. A tense silence fills the air, only the clattering sound of their cutleries are heard. Guards a stationed at the entrance while maids are on standby to aid them with anything needed on the table once they're signaled. Suddenly the silence in dining room is broken by a statement from Luna.
“Bubba!” Luna called Damien with a childlike voice. “You surprised everyone last night.”
“Hahaha,” Damien laughed, “well I just wanted to have some fun.”
“Well you had more than fun last night, you put on a show brother!” Luna states in a more distinctive voice.
“Yesterday was my birthday, if I remember clearly, you're the one who encouraged me to celebrate and unwind, so yes, I was celebrating” Damien reminds.
“I know, I know brother and I'm glad, I've just never seen you in that mood before and that dance, was epic.” Nadia relates as she signals a maid by her side to come pour some wine in her glass. The maid hastily offers her assistant as she is seen pouring wine into Luna's glass from a jug.
Damien observing this asked with curiosity, “Nadia, are you hurt, is your arm broken?”
“No, why do you ask, did you notice something?”She questions back at him.
“Then why ask a maid to fill your glass with wine when your hands are not fractured?”
Damien inquires sarcastically.
“Oh brother please, not now, please,” she begs and relates, this is what they were employed for, it is their duty to render assistance to the Royal family at given time and place no matter what is of them and need I remind you I happen to be of royalty.”She narrates loudly and with vigor that her voice echoes through the room.
“Alright your majesty, have it your way.” Damien says sarcastically.
“You tend to forget that I held your glass for you last night so you could go meet your new lover and I am not your made, I'm your sister.” She remarks on jealousy.
“You've always been of good comfort and assistance to me Luna since our parent's demise, your such a strong woman.” Damien acknowledges as he pets her lightly on her hand. This makes Luna smile widely.
A very familiar voice interrupts them.“Well what have I been then, some dummy doll following orders?” Ryder is heard from the hall's entrance approaching the table.
“Oh for goodness sake!” Luna exclaims with an exhausting expression on her face, “who let him in?”
“Well I sent it to him,”Damien replies.
Ryder finds his place on a seat next to Luna, having a smirk on him while facing her. “Good morning, my Alpha and Milady.” He greets while stretching his hands to take a piece of cake.
“Why do I have an inkling you have a crush on my sister?” Damien inquires.
“What!” Nadia shrieks, facing Damien with an awkward look.
“Oh no, sire I would never disrespect you or milady in such a way.” Ryder responds with a hidden blush on his face.
“Hmmm, okay.” Damien shrugs.
You had better not, Luna says to Ryder then facing Damien she adds, “how could you even think such?”
“No disrespect, but I see now why you're still single Luna.” Ryder remarks.
“I tend to agree.” Damien concurs.
