When I came to Alpha’s house, it smelled like pine polish and stale air. I had come to check on chores, but I paused outside the kitchen when I heard two maids whispering.
“Alpha Zeke left last night,” one said. “He’s gone to meet Alphas from Ridge and Hollowstone packs.”
“With Beta Daniel?”
“Yes. They’re trying to rally support before Alpha Ezra challenges him.”
My heart thudded. So Zeke was gone. For three whole days.
“I heard that Alpha Zeke will also go to the Elder High Council to file a case against Alpha Ezra.”
“I hope he does that. Alpha Ezra is really cruel!”
“Is Angie with him?” the first one whispered, stepping into the hallway.
“No, she’s been sleeping all day,” the maid shrugged. “Didn’t even yell once. And I heard that she keeps visiting somewhere at night.”
