Chapter 17Rory woke to the sounds of sirens. He stirred in the bed and jerked awake. The hotel room became a foreign landscape to him; there were at least three solid seconds where, in the wake of the sirens, he had absolutely no idea where he was.
Then Taggart reminded him. He was still asleep in the giant bed next to him, having nodded off halfway through the Quiz Show film as he’d expected. Rory had been engaged with the narrative and finished the nearly two-and-a-half-hour movie before shutting the laptop and joining him. Now it seemed that Taggart was still out and would be that way for some time.
After using the bathroom, Rory slipped back into the giant bed. Even as he slid right next to Taggart, he didn’t move. He continued to make low snoring noises as his chest went up and down
