Chapter 18“It feels like it happened yesterday,” Taggart said. “But it was more like eight, almost nine years ago.” Rory waited on the edge of the park bench, a knot in his stomach. He knew what was coming. How could he not once Taggart had given him the basic term? The rest was easy to fill in the blanks for afterwards. While Rory had insisted that Taggart need not go through the entire ordeal all over again, Taggart had countered that he did. It was important. The story mattered. Rory understood that. This was the way the story was supposed to be told, so that one day, it could possibly end. So they went to a bench in the Chicago park, and Taggart did his best to start at the beginning.
