Victoria’s POV Everything started out quietly. Not the peaceful kind, the one that fills a room before something bad happens. I could sense it. Jordan sat across from me at the breakfast table, his coffee untouched, eyes on his tablet. Normally, he’d be reading the morning reports or glancing at the headlines. But not today. Today he was scrolling too slowly, like he wasn’t really reading anything at all. I poured juice into my glass just to break the quiet. “You’re up early,” I said, trying to sound casual. “Couldn’t sleep,” he answered without looking up. My hand froze mid-pour. “Something wrong?” He didn’t answer right away. That’s how I knew something was. Finally, he set the tablet down and looked at me. There it was, that sharp, assessing stare that used to make everyone else
