Eavesdropping!

1000 Words
Sasha woke up several hours later, she sat on her bed rubbing her eyes and yawning. she was feeling much better after the nap. she slid from the bed and went to the window. the sun was already setting and from a distance she could hear the sound of a cow mowing. she stood there for a while gazing into the dark and contemplating whether to go downstairs or just stay in her room. Her grandfather hadn't yet come to meet her and she wondered why. she took her sweater and got out of her room closing the door quietly. The house was silent except for the sound of frogs coming from the outside. without making a sound she tiptoed down the stairs towards the kitchen. she had woken up hungry and was going to make herself a sandwich. Just before she could open the door to the kitchen she heard voices coming from within. "Its too painful for me ,,I can't bear to see her. this was all a bad idea.." a voice that she couldn't quite place said in a hushed tone. " don't forget that she is your grandchild Philip, at some point you will have to forget the past and move on.." Nana's voice whispered. and she's already here so you have to deal with it.. let the past stay in the past."said Nana's voice sternly. "Now I'm going up to call her for dinner, don't forget to behave" she said as she came towards the kitchen door. suddenly the door opened and sasha stumbled backwards embarrassed to have been caught eavesdropping. " ummm... I was ..I was umm ..just coming for a sandwich" sasha stammered her ears turning red. Nana stood there looking at her strangely..she then smiled and said.. " that's okay Twinkie I was just coming up to get you , dinner will be set in ten minutes. The door opened father and her grandfather came into view. he just stood there looking at her and scrutinizing. there was a silence and then he spoke " you shouldn't eavesdrop on your elders, do you hear me girl.? he said and began walking towards the door taking his coat. Sasha could only stare at his back wondering what she had done wrong. " come , come help me set the table ready for dinner." Nana said. "what's wrong with him, is he usually rude or is it just me" Sasha said as she followed Nana to the dinning room carrying the plates. " just ignore him,, he's just tired, " well I don't care , I don't think I like him any much." Sasha said as she help set the table. later that night as they ate their dinner her grandfather informed her that she had been enrolled in the local Uni and she was to report and sign herself in. ooh school she had forgotten about school. she hated being the new kid in school. guess she'll have to deal sasha sighed as she excused herself from the table. she went to her room, checked up for any missed call or messages and found two missed calls from her dad and five messages from Liam. she had promised to text him when she landed. After replying the texts she tried to call her dad and went straight to voicemail. with a promise to call him the following day, she then took her medication and dived right into sleep meanwhile in the dinning room a conversation was being held to discuss her stay in the house. later that night Nana came to tuck her in and couldn't help but pity the poor kid. she still couldn't believe this beautiful girl also had the disease that had taken her lovely Natalie. Again she sighed and closed the door quietly. Back in the study room her grandfather Philip sat quietly on his armchair and lit a cigar. the girl was already here and so there's nothing he could do about it he thought. He was still irritated that Nana had gone behind his back and arranged to have her live here when he had specifically said he should be given time to make up his mind. seeing her everyday was just going to open up old wounds which he wasn't sure he was ready to deal with. During dinner he had had a chance to look at her real well and yes without a doubt she was his blood. the resemblance to her late daughter Natalie was without doubt a hundred percent. He got up from the seat, sighed and placed his hand in his pocket as he paced the room. from what he had been told the girl was also sick. so apparently she had inherited her mother's illness along side her looks. His Natalie, he thought bitterly, he had argued, yelled and even begged her o have the surgery and save herself. she had refused..Philip hadn't known at the time that Natalie was already been three months pregnant. And even after finding out , he had begged her to terminate the pregnancy in order to live and she had refused. she had rejected the surgery that would have saved her life. she had decided to wait and have the baby and of course by the time the baby was born , it had been risky to do it. He had called Mike and begged him to talk to his daughter to no avail and that is why he hated Mike Brooks.. as far as he was concerned Mike was no son in-law of his.He blamed him for his daughter's death. He had impregnated his little girl knowing very well she was ill . and as much as it pained him the girl was his blood. Philip stopped pacing and stood at the window staring into darkness. Well he hoped the girl just stayed out of his way and they would have no problem. He picked up his coat and walked towards the master bedroom.
