In the NICK of TIME

Chapter 9

Kaisley looked at the man in front of her. Until now, she still wonders how he drinks a pitchel of coffee she gives him and still drinks a lot.

"Nick, are you sure you're not in pain?" Kaisley asked the young man a second time, but only a nod he response to her.

Kaisley is already worried about the young man's actions because since she woke up this morning, Nick has not left the living room and only drinks coffee all day. She wanted to call his friend, Joe to ask about Nick's strange behavior, but she remembered that she did not have a cellphone because it fell when she was running away from Santo Tomas Aquino University. Another thing is that she also doesn't have Joe's cellphone number and she can't ask Nick about it especially if her intention is about Nick, so she wants to call.

Kaisley decided to sit also to the living room to accompany the young man and wait for him until he finally tell his story about his strange behavior.

"Okay. If you really don't want to talk about why you are like that now, can you just answer my question about why coffee is your want to drink all day?" Kaisley smiled at him and even though she knew he was vague to answer her question, she still smiled waiting for him to be answer her.

Kaisley adjusted her seat as Nick finally turned in her direction. "If you have a brain, you will think that I drink coffee because of you. If I drink alcohol, you will definitely think of your safety when I get drunk even though I am not that kind of person. So, I drink coffee instead of wine. Tss. " Nick still treats Kaisley rudely, but Kaisley wonders why Nick's words seem long suddenly.

Kaisley, however, smiled as the young man finally answered one of her questions. It just went through Kaisley's mind that the young man might really have a fever so his behavior has changed now.

Kaisley deeply sighed. She stood up and went to Nick to touch his forehead to see if her suspicion was correct, but as soon as Kaisley touched Nick's forehead, he quickly avoided the girl's hand. Kaisley took a step back because Nick gave her a strange look. It is like a look that is ready to kill a person any time and the look that seems to have killed a person before.

Kaisley was nervous when Nick stared at her so the words that Kaisley would have said to him were hung on the air. Kaisley moved away a little when Nick suddenly stood up.

"Leave me alone and do not follow me." After his cold voice, he left Kaisley confused and feeling double fear.

When Kaisley could no longer see Nick, Kaisley sat down in fear. She never thought that she would feel this way to someone who always protects her. Kaisley proved to herself that she did not really know the young man until now. Same thing to Nick about Kaisley's whole being.

Kaisley's attention shifted when the phone rang near the living room where she was staying. Kaisley wanted to call Nick to answer the phone, but she hesitated. She thought he might get even angrier. Kaisley decided that she would be the one to answer the phone even if it was against her will.

Kaisley stood up and picked up the phone. She boldly answered whoever called it. "Hello?"

"Kaisley, is this you? This is Joe. I'm in the parking lot of the SM mall in Dasma. Help me with Nick!"

Kaisley didn't hear anything else because Joe was the one who hung up the phone. Kaisley's heartbeat quickened. She did not know what to do at these times. She just realized that she was walking towards Nick's room now.

When Kaisley reached the young man's room, she took a deep breath before standing across from his room. She slowly opened Nick's door a little and peeked inside carefully. She looked around the room and caught sight of Nick sitting on his bed as he faced the table with a picture of a woman Kaisley did not know who. Kaisley could not see the young man's face because he was turned in against her direction so Kaisley did not know what he looked like now while looking at the woman in the photo.

Kaisley decided not to tell Nick about what happened to Joe and she will just go to his place alone. Kaisley returned to the living room and picked up the sticky note on the table. She left a message for Nick before finally left his house. When Kaisley got out of the gate, she immediately felt a lot of sadness. Kaisley knew that she had only once met a person who was willing to protect her at any time and she was happy about it, but she did not want them to get hurt just because of her.

Kaisley was a happy woman, but she never thought that she was important to the world. She always thought that she was just a creature that should not be focused on.

Kaisley was not wearing any mask when she went to the parking lot of SM mall with a taxi. After a while, Kaisley's heart was pounding harder and harder and she seemed to just want to back away, but she realized that her foot step already on the parking lot of the mall.

The whole area is quiet. The parking lot was full of cars, but she didn't see anyone when she looks around. She looked around again and tried to find the person she was looking for, but she failed to him.

Kaisley seemed to be losing hope and thought about the possible consequences of Joe as happened to his late friend, Aisle Marquez.

"Am I late? Did the people chasing me catch him?" Kaisley felt weak as she talked to herself.

In this situation, Kaisley blames herself again because she seems to have been late saving the life of someone who is also willing to help her. Kaisley knelt down and hugged herself. Everywhere she turned her eyes, she could not really see or even feel Joe's presence. Little by little, Kaisley remembers the little time Joe helped her and even though he had only been with her once or twice, Kaisley felt very sorry for her life.

Kaisley was in such a position and situation when suddenly, someone covered her nose with a handkerchief. Kaisley is still struggling, but its too late because she was slowly weakening and suddenly fainting.
