Chapter 12 - Arrival at Rollin

1090 Words
The carriage is bringing some supplies to Rollin's town, drop us in front of the adventurers guild. It was a smaller building than the one in the capital city. The four of us walk into the guild. The place was quieter, with most seats unoccupied. We went to the counter where the clerk always stays. The clerk was a male for this guild. He was thin has short black hair and brown eyes. The clerk gazes in our direction and greets us. “Hello, adventurers, how may I help you?” Medina walked forth and handed the same parchment she showed to the clerk in the capital. He grabs the parchment and reads it; after a few seconds. The clerk gives the parchment back to Medina. “So it's a special request handed straight to you by the church. Then we will not provide the reward since the church will be the one paying your party. However, we, the adventurer guild, will supervise your progress since it's an investigation request. Please come and check in with the guild if there is progress with your investigation.” After that, the four of us look for an INN to stay. Since the sun was lowering itself, hiding behind the mountains. However, looking for an INN in this town was an easy task. We were able to find one, but when we walk inside, it was almost empty. Only a few people stayed in the town. After the increased presence of monsters around the surroundings of the city, tourists and merchants have lowered. But adventurers working in the city also decreased. And I think the reason for that is the rumor of a high-rank general who works under me. The former me, to be exact. It looks like my sphere of influence in spreading fear was pretty successful. I am pretty proud of this achievement if I say so. The four of us have dinner; wait, I mean the three of my companions gathered at the table. I was just a fourth wheel, unlike the three. I do not require such foods. I can sustain myself for a max of one week with a single mouse—however, thanks to my regulation magic, the body's original expertise skill. I can extend that energy conservation for about a month. “Hey, how are we going to start our investigation?" Henry asks his comrades who were eating. Anne drops the spoon she held and spoke, “Good question, Henry. But if you ask me. I suggest we go on our separate ways. We should task each other an objective.” Medina stared towards Anne and said, “I see we could cover more ground if we gather information on multiple areas. However, which places should we start.” “I also got that covered, Medina.” “Wow, you are amazing, princess Anne,” Henry spoke in a low voice. “Then where should we go, Princess." The princess is too enthusiastic about everything. She should calm down sometimes. On the other hand, Henry is staying quiet because he is unable to contribute. “Medina, why don't you speak with the local church. Maybe you can quickly gain more information about the situation that had transpired in the past days.” “For you, Henry and Otis, you two should ask the people who are collecting the herbs. But please take this seriously since you will have the highest chance of gathering info about the monsters.” Henry then replied, “No worried princess, I shall do my best. But what about you, princess. What are you going to do?” The princess smiled and said to Henry, ”I'll be speaking with the mayor, of course. I will gather important information from the people ruling this town.” “Then I suggest the four of us meet at the guild at sundown to conclude and give our progress to the clerk," Medina suggested. “That's a great suggestion, Medina," Anne exclaimed. These three are quite the festive party. However, I am pretty excited to see how they will react, gazing at one of my generals. It would be an amusing sight to watch—fear, hopelessness, and powerlessness. I will see these three emit those when they set their eyes at my glorious general. ‘Since we arrived at the town. I already sense my general's presence. He may try to hide it, but I already know and experience his power. So I know when he is near. And I am sure he's just in the surroundings of this town.' ‘Now that I remember, I did send him for some critical mission. However, I can't grasp it. The only thing I remember was the part of sending a message to the king of Armada. Guess I'll remember it when we meet once again.’ After their plans, my three human companions went to sleep. They are tired of the travel they have done. But I'm pretty sure that they will wake up early tomorrow, happily starting their mission. Morning arrived. And I was right. The three did not slow down in preparing. After breakfast, the party immediately walk their separate ways. This time I'm stuck with the hero Henry. It's been a while since it was just the two of us travel together. Well, it's not long ago. It was three of five days. Henry and I went to the people gathering the herbs. Of course, Henry didn't know where to search for the people, so I had to help him. We traverse the entire city until we reached a building with a hanging wooden sign of a mortar and pestle engraved. Henry walks opener the door of the building, but when he steps inside. A yell suddenly erupts in the atmosphere. “What do you mean you can't gather herbs today!" An older man wearing a spectacle on his left eye yelled. His anger targeted a young man near Henry's age, who replied. “Uhm, sir, the adventurers are not willing to take the escort mission. The guards, on the other hand, are busy exterminating the nearby monsters." “I don't care about that; we have to gather herbs. It's been the fourth time this week since we are unable to collect anything. Do you know what happens if we don't pick anything?" “We get fired from our jobs. And we starve cause we don't have money.” However, as the older man and the younger man were arguing. Henry tries to get the attention of the two by yelling, “Hello!” He was somewhat successful as the two people gaze in his direction.
