CHAPTER ONE: THE BLOOD MOON AWAKENS
The night the sky turned red, everything changed.
The forest of Velmora had always been alive, but never like this. The wind whispered through ancient trees like it carried secrets, and the moon—once silver and calm—now glowed a deep, haunting crimson. The Blood Moon had risen.
And with it, the forgotten queen awakened.
Kaelara stood at the edge of the cliff, her bare feet pressed against the cold stone, her long dark hair dancing wildly in the wind. Her golden eyes reflected the crimson moon, glowing brighter than they ever had before.
She didn’t remember everything yet.
But she remembered enough.
“They lied to you.”
The voice echoed in her mind again, just like it had every night for the past week.
“They took everything from you.”
Kaelara clenched her fists. Her nails dug into her palms, but she didn’t feel pain the way humans did. Not anymore.
Not since the change.
Behind her, the forest shifted.
A low growl broke the silence.
Kaelara didn’t turn.
“I know you’re there,” she said calmly.
From the shadows, a massive wolf emerged. Its fur was midnight black, its eyes glowing icy blue. Slowly, it stepped forward, muscles rippling beneath its thick coat.
This was no ordinary wolf.
This was one of them.
“Kaelara,” the wolf spoke, its voice deep and echoing with power. “You shouldn’t be out here alone.”
She finally turned, her expression cold. “I’m not alone, Ryker. Not anymore.”
The wolf shifted.
Bones cracked. Fur receded. Within seconds, a tall, muscular man stood where the beast had been. Ryker ran a hand through his dark hair, his eyes still glowing faintly.
“You’re changing too fast,” he said. “The elders warned—”
“The elders lied,” Kaelara snapped.
The wind grew stronger.
For a moment, silence hung between them.
Ryker studied her carefully. “You don’t mean that.”
“I do.”
Her voice was steady. Too steady.
Ryker took a step closer. “Kaelara… you’re not thinking clearly. The Blood Moon—it’s affecting you.”
Kaelara laughed softly.
“No,” she said. “It’s waking me up.”
A sudden surge of energy pulsed through her body.
Her eyes flashed.
Her bones began to shift.
Ryker’s expression changed instantly. “Wait—don’t—”
Too late.
Kaelara dropped to her knees as the transformation overtook her.
But this wasn’t like before.
This wasn’t painful.
This was power.
Her body grew, muscles stretching, bones reshaping. Dark silver fur spread across her skin, glowing faintly under the red moonlight. Her claws extended, sharp and deadly. Her senses exploded—she could hear the wind miles away, smell every living thing in the forest.
And when she lifted her head…
She was no ordinary wolf.
She was larger. Stronger. Different.
A queen.
Ryker stepped back, stunned. “That’s… impossible.”
Kaelara rose slowly, her massive form towering over him.
Her eyes—still gold—locked onto his.
“Do you see it now?” she asked, her voice echoing both human and wolf.
Ryker swallowed.
“The legends… they said the Queen was destroyed centuries ago.”
Kaelara tilted her head.
“And yet here I am.”
A distant howl echoed through the forest.
Then another.
And another.
Kaelara’s ears twitched.
“They’re calling,” she whispered.
Ryker’s face darkened. “No… that’s not our pack.”
“I know.”
Her lips curled into a faint, dangerous smile.
“It’s the ones who betrayed me.”
Ryker’s heart pounded. “Kaelara… what are you talking about?”
Memories flashed in her mind—quick, sharp, painful.
Fire.
Blood.
Chains.
A throne taken.
A crown stolen.
“They killed me,” she said quietly.
Ryker froze.
“They burned my kingdom. Slaughtered my people. And left me to die.”
Her voice dropped into something darker.
“But they didn’t know…” she continued, “…that queens don’t die so easily.”
The ground beneath them trembled slightly.
Power surged around her, wild and uncontrollable.
Ryker stepped back again. “Kaelara… you’re scaring me.”
She looked at him.
For a moment, just a moment, something softer flickered in her eyes.
Then it vanished.
“Good,” she said.
The wind howled louder now.
More wolves were coming.
Dozens.
Maybe hundreds.
Ryker turned sharply toward the forest. “We need to go. Now.”
Kaelara didn’t move.
“No,” she said. “They’re coming to me.”
“They’re not here to bow to you!” Ryker snapped. “They’re hunters—they’ll tear you apart!”
Kaelara smiled again.
“Let them try.”
The first wolves burst from the trees seconds later.
Massive. Brutal. War-trained.
Their eyes burned with savage hunger.
They circled her instantly.
Ryker shifted back into his wolf form, placing himself between them and Kaelara.
“Stay behind me!” he growled.
Kaelara stepped forward instead.
“Move, Ryker.”
“I’m not letting you fight them alone!”
“You’re not,” she said calmly.
Before he could respond—
She moved.
Faster than anything he had ever seen.
In a blink, she was in the middle of the pack.
Claws flashed.
A wolf lunged—
She caught it mid-air and slammed it into the ground.
Another attacked from behind—
She spun, her claws slicing through the air with deadly precision.
The forest exploded into chaos.
Growls.
Snarls.
Blood.
But Kaelara…
Kaelara was unstoppable.
Within minutes, the ground was covered in fallen wolves.
The survivors backed away, fear replacing their aggression.
One of them—a larger wolf with scarred fur—stepped forward slowly.
“You… you are her,” he said, his voice trembling.
Kaelara stood tall, her fur glowing faintly under the Blood Moon.
“Yes.”
The wolf lowered his head instantly.
“The Queen…”
One by one, the others followed.
They bowed.
Ryker stared in shock.
Kaelara turned toward him.
“Now do you understand?” she asked.
Ryker didn’t answer.
He couldn’t.
Because standing before him…
Was no longer the girl he knew.
This was something else.
Something ancient.
Something powerful.
Something dangerous.
Kaelara looked back at the kneeling wolves.
Her voice rang out, strong and commanding.
“Rise.”
They obeyed instantly.
“Spread the word,” she continued. “Tell every pack, every clan, every hidden wolf in this world…”
Her golden eyes burned with fire.
“The Queen has returned.”
The wind howled as if answering her call.
“And this time…” she said, her voice dropping into something deadly quiet,
“…I’m taking back everything they stole.”
The Blood Moon glowed brighter.
And far beyond the forest…
Something else awakened.
Something that had been waiting.
Watching.
Smiling.
Because the Queen’s return…
Meant war.
