19 Made It Public

Saint decided to restrain her mouth from speaking another word. She could never afford the embarrassment she brought upon herself that night. On the other hand, Sandro could not stop grinning from ear to ear. Happiness filled his heart and was showing over his aura. Softly, his warm hands wrapped around her waist as he pulled her closer to him. "My blood type is O positive, and I donate blood every opportunity. I'm mostly allergic to seafood, especially shrimp. I was born on December 10. My favourite food is blanched fiddlehead fern with soy sauce. I like white, sometimes olive green too. I don't really have a favourite number." Saint couldn't stop her cheeks from getting redder. In the end, she buried her face in the crook of Sandro's neck, at which he heartily laughed. "When's your birthday?" he asked softly, anticipating her answer. March 7. "March 7," Saint whispered, her head still buried in his neck. "7," Sandro repeated while caressing Saint's soft hair. It was still damp. "That'll be my favourite number from now on." Shock lingered on Saint's face, which forced her to look at him. Sandro cupped her heart-shaped face before landing a soft kiss on her lips. That very night, they slept soundly. The next day, Sandro told her to wear something light and casual. Unfortunately, her wardrobe consisted of black and grey. Looking around the walk-in closet, she rummaged through Sandro's clothes. A white cotton t-shirt caught her attention. The shirt ended above her knee. In the end, she wore Sandro's shirt over a bralette and tucked it into dark denim shorts. She wore an old pair of sneakers for her feet, while simple designer sunglasses accessorized her face. Her hair was down, showing its natural curls. "Aren't you going to work?" she asked patiently. Noticing his white shirt on his wife, Sandro could not help but smile. "It suits you perfectly." His compliment was almost a whisper. They had the same t-shirt on— he was wearing a white t-shirt, denim pants, and tennis shoes. Saint casually shook the imaginary dust off the shirt. "It's quite big, but I have nothing light to wear." Sandro wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her forehead. "Everything about me fits you perfectly, baby," he whispered in her ear and winked once he faced her. Her cheeks turned red at his comment. It certainly has a different meaning. Plus, the endearment he fancied using on her brought trouble to her heart. Why is this man so clingy? Once they reached the garage, Sandro chose to use his Jeep and immediately sat in the driver's seat, leaving Saint without a choice but to sit in the passenger's seat. "Why are you driving? I'm supposed to drive." Her forehead knotted. "Right, no. I won't let you drive after last time." He put the car in reverse and swiftly exited the manor. "But I'm your bodyguard!" "Bodyguard, not my driver," he retorted. Saint quietly indulged herself in boredom. After a couple of minutes, she asked, "What should we do with Eli? He was the one who released those photos." Sandro looked as if he was thinking deeply. "I'll handle it, don't worry." She nodded in response and turned her attention outside the car window. They were probably going somewhere nearby since she was familiar with the view. After almost half an hour of driving, Sandro pulled over in front of a high-rise building. They saw a thick red ribbon tied to the door while some people gathered around. "What are we doing on the outskirts?" Saint asked with confusion in her voice. She knew every part of the outskirts like the back of her hand. " A low-cost housing project was approved last year. The construction company finished building it last month, and we're finally opening it to people. The idea was to erect a condotel. It could serve as housing and job opportunity for the people of the hood." Saint stood speechless. "Impossible! How did they let you build this here?" "The construction company I hired was established by the people here. It was a community effort. All I did was provide the budget." She was rendered speechless. `She did not even notice that Sandro opened the door for her. "Come, they're waiting for us." They held hands as they approached the group of people. Everybody greeted Sandro with a lot of respect—so she was too. "S!" familiar voices called to her. When she turned her head, she found Maze and Lilith. Sandro did not let go of her hand. Instead, he turned his full attention to the two ladies approaching. "Hi, Mr Mayor," Lili's voice was laced with seduction—she almost purred. "These are my friends, Maze," she pointed to the red-haired one, "and Lilith," her finger pointed towards the blonde one. Sandro was very familiar with the ladies. They were with Saint when he picked her, wasted. Their short introduction was cut off by a woman asking for Sandro's presence for the ribbon-cutting ceremony to begin. Saint watched her husband standing in front of the people. "It was a wonderful opportunity that you have given me your trust to make this project happen. Thank you for your hard work and cooperation. Most of all, I'd like to thank my wife for being the sole inspiration for this project. Most of you know Saint, my beautiful wife." Sandro looked in her direction and gave her the warmest smile. Saint was confused, but her cheeks grew bright red when everyone's attention landed on her. Everyone knew her, but they never thought that she was the mayor's wife, or else they would never accept her openly before. Actually, they knew nothing about Saint, but she had a reputation to behold. "She loves the outskirts the same way you do. She was the one who introduced me to your culture and practices. It is due time I took part in giving the hood love." With his last remark, he cut the ribbon and showed it to the people. Everyone cheered and clapped, while some looked displeased. "Uh-oh, you better not show yourself here before you release a statement of divorce," Maze chided.
