When Chris walked up to my table, he said, "Wow, you look so beautiful. Here these are for you. I wasn't sure what your favorites are, so I just got these."
He handed me a bundle of mixed flowers. They had a little bit of everything in them and were all different colors.
"Thank you, they are beautiful. Please sit down. Gladys will be over in a minute to get your drink order," I told him. We sat down, and right on cue, Gladys showed up and asked Chris what he wanted to drink. After looking at the menu, he told her that he wanted a Coke, and she went to get it while winking at me.
"First name basis, you must come here a lot," he said.
"I do, I come here a few times a week. This place is the only one around here that lets you bring animals in here. Gizmo is my service animal. But even though he is trained to help me, I cant get him registered as such. The only animals that they will register are dogs and small horses. I'd rather have Gizmo than a dog. He helps me better than a dog ever would. I have panic attacks and anxiety thanks to my family. And when I start taking one of the attacks, Gizmo talks to me and brings me out of it. He's my little buddy and helps me through everything," I told him.
"I'm moms beautiful boy," Gizmo said from behind me.
Chris chuckled and said, "Thats pretty cool that he can talk. But it's really awesome that he helps you when you need it. I understand better than anyone about family problems. I'm actually late because of a phone call with my father. He called to inform me of a wedding for some people that we know. And then started in on me over the fact that I'm still single. It's not a good conversation topic between us and has caused many problems. They want to pick my wife, and I want to meet a woman on my own, fall in love, and then get married. I know that my parents mean well, but it pisses me off none the same."
"I understand that all too well. I ran from home after my parents tried to force me into marriage. I have not seen or spoken to them since then. I probably never will. I'd rather live my life and be happy. And so far, my life has only gotten better. Now enough sappy family talk. You said that you wanted to start a business venture together. What do you want to do?" I asked him.
"I heard about you opening up another brand for your store. But this one would be candy that is suited for adults only. From what I heard, the building where I met you will be the Naughty Candy Factory and shop. That you're going to sell the stuff there and in adult shops. I would like to be in on that venture. Because of who my family is, I cant make and sell that stuff on my own. They would have a complete coniption fit because it would give the family a very bad name. And we would be seen in a bad light, according to them. I'd like to buy into it for a twenty percent share of the company. I have some ideas for different candies that you could make and sell. Hell, when I can, I'll even come down here and help you make the candy. But even while I'm in New York, I'll work on coming up with recipes to make. I can even think of a few different ones that we could do instead of the usual coal for the 'naughty' adults for Christmas. Plus, it gives me an excuse and a reason to come back down here to see you again," he said.
I sat there thinking about it while we placed our food orders. After Gladys took our order back, I said, "I like that idea, and I'm good with the twenty percent as long as you give me at least five to ten good ideas for candy. I can have my lawyer draw up the papers and get it set up once they are signed for you to get the twenty percent. I dont have a board of directors. I am the sole owner of both of my candy shops right now. If you dont want your family to know that we have it worded as a silent partner is working with me. That way, it will keep your name out of it. If you need to tell people why you are coming down here to see me all the time, then we can come up with something. We're both single, if we have to, we can say that we're dating or something."
"I like that idea a lot. But what if we didn't pretend? What if we actually try this dating thing and see how it goes? I know that it'll be hard doing the long-distance thing. But it'll also give us time to get to know each other as well," he said.
I thought about it for a minute and finally agreed to give it a shot. I wanted to see how this would go. We ate our dinner, which was burgers with the works and fries, and continued to talk and get to know each other. When the date was over, he paid for our dinner. He wouldn't let me pay. And then we headed out to leave. He walked me to my SUV, and Leander and Thor were already standing beside it.
Gizmo and I said goodbye to Chris and thanked him for the date. After he made sure that I was in my car, he walked over to his and got in. It ended up being a really good date, and I couldn't wait until the next one. Just before he got to his car, I used my magic to reach out slightly and realized that he was my mate. Guess I made a good decision after all.
