The Discovery
Ellia POV
The sharp sound of my alarm dragged me out of sleep. I groaned and slapped a hand across my nightstand until my fingers found my phone. I rolled onto my back and stared at the ceiling.
"Five more minutes…," I muttered.
My phone immediately buzzed before I could shut my eyes—
"Get up, Sleepyhead." It's from Lena. She knew me too well.
"You're a terrible friend." I managed to type a message despite the sleep in my eyes.
"Yet somehow your only friend." She replied almost immediately.
I dragged myself out of bed and headed toward the bathroom. Twenty-five minutes later, I was rushing downstairs with a piece of toast hanging from my mouth.
Aunt Hilda sat by the diner, then looked up from her coffee mug to face me.
"Running late?"
I pointed at the toast by the table. "Clearly aunt.”
She let out a sharp laugh. "Well, luckily for you… I packed your lunch."
"Oh! You’re the best Aunt Hilda!” I kissed her cheek before grabbing my bag.
"Love you!"
"Love you too, Ellia! And be safe!”
I was already out the door as the bright sun hit me.
“s**t! s**t! First day of the new semester and I was already running late!”
I dashed through the narrow street, weaving past the surrounding crowds with ease. A surge of wind followed behind me as I ran…my speed at least ten times faster than others—
Three years ago, when I turned fifteen, I somehow developed special abilities that made me much faster and stronger than people my age. Aunt Hilda pleaded I kept it a secret, and never used it in public.
But today—was an exception.
I arrived at the campus grounds with barely a minute to spare before the general assembly.
Things were normal… like how a college should be, at least for a couple of minutes before I saw him—
"Ethan Hayes"
The universe apparently enjoyed tormenting me.
He was standing near the front entrance with a group of friends, laughing about something.
He had dark hair and hazel eyes, a perfect stature. He looked like he was dreamt up from a fantasy novel.
"Stop staring." A sharp voice cut me off from my imagination—
My pulse spiked before Lena appeared beside me.
"Gotcha!" She grinned so wide that I could count the whole set of her teeth.
"I wasn't staring." I rolled my eyes sharply.
"You absolutely were."
"No.” I cut her off, trying to form a lie.
“I was just…I was observing."
"Like a scientist?" She scoffed.
"Exactly."
"Interesting. And what scientific discovery have you made?"
I sighed dramatically in defeat. “Fine…you caught me."
For a moment, everything felt normal, then…a voice sliced through the air.
"Look who it is."
My stomach sank.
"Don't turn around, Ellia". Lena whispered.
"Don't—"
I turned around as three girls approached us.
The popular and rich Brianna Carter and behind were her two shadows, Madison and Chloe. The trio of nightmares.
Brianna's gaze swept over me, then she smiled coldly.
"Just so you know, Ethan likes confident girls."
My face heated up instantly.
Her smile widened when she caught it… "Oh."
Then she let out a sharp laugh. "You can barely afford a good skincare, Ethan would never go for someone like you."
"Someone like me?"
I felt something sharp jab right through into my chest.
“I—“
Before I could respond, I heard a woman's voice laced in panic from across the road.
"Arghh!!"
I didn’t think, I just moved—
My legs carried me across the pavement so fast…and in half a second, I was in the middle of the road…
Things around me seem slower now—
A pregnant woman lying helplessly on the floor and a car just inches away from hitting her. I picked her up and ran to the other side of the road.
When the chaos cleared off, the eyes of the students and pedestrians locked on me. Even the woman was shocked, wondering how I pulled her out.
"Oh no!"
This was bad! Very bad!
I zoomed off in a flash, leaving only a trail of dust.
The remaining hours in school were a nightmare. I could literally feel the eyes of everyone on me.
And Lena, I couldn't shrug off the fear I sensed in her when I tried to talk to her.
The next day was my eighteenth birthday, and as tradition, Aunt Hilda always baked a pre-birthday cake. I tried to occupy my mind with that while hurrying home. But I couldn't dismiss the thoughts of the incident that occurred that morning.
"Maybe it's finally time I demanded answers from Aunt Hilda."
A car zoomed past, jolting me out of my thoughts.
I recognized it. It's the same one from the morning.

Third-Person POV
A man dressed in a well-fitted suit sat comfortably in a car. He replayed the incident and observed beyond the chaos, the speed and distance the girl had covered.
"She must possess so much strength to carry a pregnant woman with such speed effortlessly."
He couldn't have been mistaken; only one man possessed such gifts. His eyes widened with realization.
Then he pulled out his phone—
“I’ve seen her…” his tone was clipped.
“…the daughter of the Alpha has been discovered.”
Then a voice came from the other end of the phone.
“Bring her home…”
