Chapter One -The storm
📖The billionaire's hidden bride Chapter One – The Storm The rain poured harder, soaking through Elena Rossi’s thin jacket as she hurried down the crowded New York street. Her sneakers splashed through puddles, and the cold water seeped into her socks, but she didn’t slow down. She was already late. Again. If she lost this job, she didn’t know what she would do. Her boss at the Italian restaurant had been clear that morning: “One more mistake, Elena, and you’re out. I don’t care if your mother’s sick. I don’t care if you live two buses away. No more excuses.” But excuses were all she had. Her mother’s medical bills sat stacked on the kitchen table like silent monsters, reminding her every morning that time was running out. Marco, her younger brother, was barely holding it together, skipping classes and taking odd jobs just to help. He was only nineteen, but the weight of survival had already hardened him. And Elena… she was twenty-two, exhausted, and one step away from breaking apart. She clutched her worn handbag tighter, filled with bills she couldn’t pay, and muttered under her breath. “Please, please let me make it on time…” Then it happened. A sleek black limousine cut across the street and screeched to a halt in front of her. Elena froze, her heart leaping into her throat. The tinted window rolled down slowly, and from inside, a pair of gray eyes as sharp as steel locked onto her. “Get in,” the man commanded. His voice was deep, powerful, and terrifyingly calm. Elena blinked in shock. “E–Excuse me?” “I don’t repeat myself.” His tone was cold, final. “You’ll catch your death out here. Get in.” For a split second, every instinct in her screamed run. But the storm lashed harder, the thunder growled above, and something about the stranger’s gaze rooted her to the spot. Against her better judgment, Elena’s trembling hand reached for the car door. The warmth of the limousine wrapped around her like a trap. The smell of leather and expensive cologne filled her senses, so foreign compared to the greasy kitchen stench she lived with every night. She dared a glance at the man beside her. He looked unreal—like he’d stepped out of a glossy magazine. Dark tailored suit, a watch that could probably pay her rent for an entire year, and a face too perfect, too controlled. His sharp jawline clenched slightly as he regarded her, and his gray eyes seemed to pierce right through her. “Who… who are you?” she whispered. The corner of his lips curved into something between a smirk and a warning. He leaned closer, his presence overwhelming. “Alexander Knight.” The name struck her like lightning. She’d heard it whispered among waitresses at the restaurant, seen it on headlines she couldn’t afford to read. The billionaire CEO who crushed competitors, who never lost, who played with power the way others played with cards. Ruthless. Untouchable. Dangerous. “What… what do you want from me?” Elena asked, her voice trembling. His eyes lingered on her face for a long moment, unreadable. Then, with chilling calm, he said, “Congratulations, Miss Rossi. You’ve just been chosen to become my wife.” Her mouth fell open. For a moment she thought she’d misheard him, that maybe the storm outside was making her delirious. “W–What?” “I need a wife,” Alexander said simply, as though discussing a business deal. “Not love. Not romance. Just an agreement.” Elena stared at him, stunned into silence. Marriage? With him? A man like Alexander Knight could have any woman in the world. Models, actresses, women who belonged to his world of wealth and power. And yet he was looking at her, a broke waitress barely scraping by. “This… this is insane,” she whispered, shaking her head. “I don’t even know you.” “You don’t need to.” His eyes darkened. “All you need to know is that this marriage will solve your problems.” He glanced at her bag, as if he already knew about the bills stuffed inside. “Your mother’s hospital fees. Your brother’s education. The roof over your head. I can take care of all of it.” Her chest tightened. How did he know? Who was this man? Elena shook her head violently. “No. I won’t sell myself for money.” Alexander leaned back, his expression unreadable, but his gaze never left hers. “It’s not selling. It’s survival. And you, Miss Rossi, are running out of options.” Her throat went dry. He was right. She hated it, but he was right. Still, every part of her resisted the idea. A contract marriage with a stranger? With a man like him? Elena gripped her bag tightly, ready to reach for the door handle, ready to escape. “I should go—” But before she could move, his hand shot out and caught her wrist. Not harsh, but firm enough that she froze. His touch sent a shiver racing up her arm. “I don’t like repeating myself,” Alexander said softly, dangerously. “You’ll marry me. Whether you agree now, or later.” Thunder cracked outside, as if sealing his words. Her heart pounded so hard she thought it might burst. She wanted to scream, to run, to fight—but some part of her knew she was already caught in his world, a world she didn’t understand, a world she couldn’t escape. Outside, the storm raged on, but inside the limousine, a different kind of storm was brewing. One that would change Elena Rossi’s life forever.
