Prologue: What They Call Love
Raven Hopeʼs POV
They say everyone has their own story; and that in each story, everyone gets their happy ending.. But what about me? How cani get my happy ending if my happiness gets taken away from me? How—
I hear the school bell ring as my friend shakes me lightly, waking me up. “Wake up, sleepyhead!”, she exclaimed.
As I was just about to get up from my seat, she almost hit me with her hand. It's a good thing I held her wrist before she did. “Still got those cool instincts, huh?”, she laughs. “You'll never get to hit me, Maya.”
She's my friend. My only friend, Maya Sims. She's energetic, cute, funny, and smart. She was always there for me, even if.. even if everyone didn't seem to like me. I don't know why she's still here.. for me.
Oh, by the way.. My name if Raven Hope, 16 years old. My parents sold me for money when I was just six years old.. Six freaking years old. My aunt saved me from them but she wasn't any different from my so-called parents. She abused me for two years straight.. Two years..straight. That's when I met Maya. She let me stay in their house and her parents were very caring. The first time I felt loved.
Okay, enough of my past now. I didn't realise I'd zoned out as Maya was talking to me. “Are you alright, Raven?”, she asks. “Yes.. Just thinking about something.”, I smile at her, reassuring her that I was doing fine. She shrugged it off.
“Ray, you go head to the caf first. I have to call my younger brother and put stuff back in my locker”, I nod, walking towards the cafeteria.
TIME SKIP — AFTER SCHOOL
Raven Hopeʼs POV
Maya waved her hand to me as she walked to the opposite direction. I mouthed “Goodbye, see you.” to her before turning my back.
I was headed to my aunt's house because she was at someone else's house. After a moment, I accidentally bumped into someone as I was focusing on my phone.
“I'm so sorry.!”, the girl apologises, I didn't realise I was staring at her. She's.. beautiful.. I felt my cheeks heat up as I blush. “Oh no problem.. Im sorry too”, I reply. She smiles at me. I felt something weird in my stomach as my heart skips a beat.
“I'm really sorry! Please accept this.”, she hands out a pink tulip from her bouquet. “Oh, thank you..”, my lips curled up into a smile— a genuine one. I took the tulip from her hand and she begins walking away.
“Will we meet again?”, I unconsciously say. I covered my mouth and clears my throat. “Ehem.. I mean.. Uhm—”, she cuts me off. “Maybe..”, she smiles once again before running away.
I couldn't get my mind off her when I got home. I didn't catch her name, either. This is the first time I've ever felt this way to someone.
Is this what they call.. love?
