Chapter 10

1622 Words
Elena didn't return to her quarters. She walked through the mansion with a completely different expression. Her smile was gone. Her eyes were cold. She was worried. More importantly, she told herself that she could not waste any time. She had to find something to use against Aiden. A secret. A weakness. There had to be something. He did look like he had a secret, or she simply wished that he did. Didn't everyone have a dirty secret? Some type of weakness? A certain fear? He had always been predictable when he was angry. But this? This was different. He seemed scared. Elena stopped walking. Perhaps she could check or ask one or two of her still-loyal gammas. If Vincent knew about whatever Aiden was hiding, they would know. And deep down, she had a feeling that it was the girl who had insulted him the night he killed her son. Diana Mendez. Oh, that night had been satisfying, even with the deep hole in her chest, but that young lady had shamed Aiden. She also knew that Vincent had lied about her becoming Luna. They were probably planning her execution, she and her mother, side by side. Her son was that kind of monster. A thought graced her, something rather sinister. If he truly had captured Diana, she needed to swoop in and use the opportunity to make her into his poison. She needed Diana Mendez by her side, as she had concluded that Aiden was scared of her. Except what she didn't yet understand was why Aiden had not introduced her to the pack yet, as an enemy for execution. What was he waiting for? Diana was convinced that Aiden had forgotten about her. There'd been no introduction, just maids coming in and out of her room and attending to her needs, with two gammas outside her door, guarding it like it was Heaven's gate. It was boring. So boring, she thought she would go mad. Vincent had not visited in a day either, which got her really worried. What if Aiden had hurt him? Yet in all of this, she never broke down in tears. As a matter of fact, she didn't let herself condone pity. She worked out instead, making awful noises that made Aiden angry and curious at the same time. How was he supposed to break this woman into submission? This tiny firecracker that was promised to him. How was he supposed to get her to know her place? Diana did this on purpose. She wanted to intimidate the monster with every weapon her head could materialize. She wanted him to know that she was not some submissive mate, giddy about being a Luna. She was ready to take his throne. She was ready to do anything to survive him, to win him, to get rid of him. "...45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50..." On a normal day, Diana did thirty push-ups, but since she'd been locked up in her room, she'd done extra twenties in a stretch, everything motivating her. Her mother. Vincent. Her career. Her life. She was fighting for them, fighting Aiden in her head. Except that it was 3:00 a.m., and she was still doing push-ups, while Aiden was studying the territory map and Vincent's report, something he often liked to do in utter silence. "Motherf..." He stopped himself from swearing, trying to ignore her with as much will as he could muster. But her room was opposite his. How was that even possible? Yet he knew. He knew she was trying to prove herself. She was trying to make a point that she was not weak. It was supposed to be funny to him. As a matter of fact, even in his annoyed state, he still found her almost impressive, but more disturbing. His mind was in a haze, and for a second, he doubted himself as Alpha. Seeing his mother today had completely unravelled him, bringing all those emotions to the surface. She had that effect on him, making him into a monster, second-guessing himself and feeling weak at the same time. He had killed Carlos. Did he regret it? He wasn't sure. Not after what he'd watched Carlos do. Everyone had thought it was about keeping his position as Alpha, except it had been more. Carlos had sold three women from the pack to the Hunter Moon Pack. He had been working with Jackson as a spy, and was trying to take over his Alpha position so he could completely destroy the pack, and turn the Silver Moon Pack into the Hunter Moon Pack's slaves. He had already started poisoning the pack, starting a group of rebels that were ruining Aiden's authority. He had to kill him. Why did it bother him so much? Yet everyone believed him to be a monster without a conscience. If only they knew how he did everything, in and out of the book, to protect them. "...34, 35, 36..." "Ooooph..." "Yes, I can do this... 37..." Aiden grunted, unable to bear her petulance. He needed her to shut up. He walked out of his room without thinking and headed for her door, banging on it in a way that made the wood tremble to its source. Her voice came to a halt. Her heart nearly jumped out of her chest as she knew exactly who had come to visit her. It was him. Her captor. It was time to face him, with no fear, not like a pathetic prisoner but a contender. And with that resolve, she got up from the floor, took a deep breath, and walked towards the door. Why were her hands trembling? Why was her throat suddenly dry? Was it not fear? As soon as the door opened and revealed her visitor, she completely forgot how to breathe. All she could do was stare, for God knows how long. How could a monster be sculpted so perfectly? Where were his horns, his blood-stained skin? His fangs dripping with a grotesque liquid or venom? Where was his scaly skin? Why did he have to be so... Beautiful. He had tattoos on some parts of his chest, a very broad chest she was tempted to lay her head on. He was ripped, eight packs she found herself counting, her eyes going down his naked torso. For a second, she imagined herself trailing her fingers down his chest, and all the way to... She swallowed. His length. She could see a silhouette in his gray joggers, and he was... Monstrously enormous. Her face became red from embarrassment, especially when Aiden cleared his throat. "Diana Mendez. It is nice to see you, all sweaty." Aiden forced the comment off his lips. He didn't understand why she had to look so... Scalding hot. She looked like she played with a furnace and laughed. Perhaps it was because of the red sports bra and shorts she was wearing, soaked in sweat and clinging to every curve of her body. He thought sports bras were supposed to hide the n*****s. Why were hers poking so hard through them? And her body... Athletic, yet curvy in a significant way. Why did she make his blood run hot and cold at once? He swallowed. This was not what he wanted. He was in control. "I... I was... I was working out." She stuttered, then brought herself together. "Hmm. Well, can you keep it down? Some of us like our peace," he told her, sounding calm, trying to be as modest and patient as possible. Diana raised a brow. "Okay." She gave him a stern and sarcastic smile before slamming the door hard in his face and bolting it. Aiden was dumbfounded, yet an amused scoff escaped him. "Did she just...? Wow." He wanted to break the door so badly, tear it off its hinges, and show her whom she was dealing with by throwing her over his knee and spanking her like a little child. But he let it go. He wasn't in the mood tonight. As soon as he got back into his room, he shook his head, realising that he had his hands full. It took a second to get back into his map reading when a more annoying sound distracted him. An endless thud against the wall, coming from her room. "f**k you, Aiden! You're a d**k! You're an asshole!" She screamed alongside the thuds like it gave her motivation. He didn't think about what to say or how to say it. He reacted on instinct. He rushed to her room, breaking the lock with a twist and a shove of his left shoulder. Diana was in shock, bandages wrapped around her knuckles, facing the wall. She'd been using the wall as her punching bag. He lost it. Before he could pull himself together, he was walking towards her angrily and lifting her into the air like she weighed nothing. He threw her over his shoulder, threw her onto the bed, and wrapped the huge duvet around her. It was so fast that Diana couldn't think of one way to react properly. She protested, punched, screamed, wiggled inside the duvet, but found herself moving, draped over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. Aiden moved with blind purpose. He took Diana from her room and brought her to his, then bolted the door and put the keys in his pocket. Then he threw her onto his gargantuan king-sized bed. Diana wiggled out of the duvet, and when she fully realised what had happened, she jumped off the bed, grabbing the lamp from the nightstand and pointing it at him defensively. "I swear on my mother's life that if you come closer, I will hurt you."
