33 Niko “But have you ever heard of a person switching Guilds?” Amec asked, walking so close on Niko’s heels, the soldier kicked the back of the map maker’s ankles every fifth step. “I mean to say if a person joined one Guild, and found themselves better suited to another, and knew there would be years of work ahead but were willing to do it―if all those things happened, do you think a person could change Guilds?” Niko leapt up onto a boulder, moving his ankles out of harm’s way. “I’ve never heard of such a thing, but I’m not really the one to ask. I’m a map maker, not an expert in Guild law.” Amec’s shoulders sank. “I have heard of soldiers spending most of their careers guarding map makers’ journeys, though.” Amec stood a little straighter at Niko’s words. “It’s not an easy life,”
