34 Mara Tham’s chest rose and fell under Mara’s head, keeping a steady rhythm even as the wind whipped the sides of their tent. Elle lay curled up on Mara’s feet inside the layers of blankets they’d cobbled together to share. The weight of the dog numbed her feet, but it was better than the biting cold. The flames of the fire tray licked the air, not caring how long it had burned. How long they’d been stuck in the tent. I don’t even know how long it’s been.
