Chapter 1 - Seeing Him

1150 Words
Brianna’s P.O.V. It's the Saturday before school, and we pulled into the parking lot of the mall. It’s been a long week, and I went and got Ashley for a girls’ day at the mall. We wanted to get new clothes to show off at the school, maybe even get a guys’ attention? We were only after a few guys after all. We started to walk around the shops starting at the Converse, and looked at every shoe imaginable. We couldn’t find a lot, because the store was full of people, and all the shoes we wanted were getting taken, and we just wanted to get out of there. We went past most of the shops then we got to the Sunglasses Hut. Of course it was the same situation as the Converse store, so we just kept walking. “Bri, what is with the people everywhere, jeez.” Ashley mutters, so that only I can hear it. “It’s the sales, you know we only have 3 days until Senior year, everyone wants the new stuff.” I said angrily, because I was upset about the situation too. “Yeah, but seriously, 150 people in a single store, and at 11AM too!?” She said, clearly more distraught about the situation than I was.  “Maybe, we can get iced coffee, and relax, and then think about what to do next.” I said with a shy smile. “Yeah, let's do it!!” She said. I always knew Caribou was her favorite, and maybe we can talk about some of the guys we wanted to get this year. “So who are you planning on twisting around your finger this year?” I asked her very slyly. “Well, you know Simon, right” Of course I knew Simon! He was the tallest, funniest guy in our class. Plus, he was really popular, just like we were. I knew he had a crush on Ashley, he said it while she wasn’t around, but I wasn’t meant to hear it. I just can’t help but smile when she said his name. “Yeah, who doesn’t? You think you can manage to get him?” I said. “I think I can. I just have to wait, and listen to what he says, laugh at his jokes, get in with his group, and I think I can do it.” She said with a dreamy look in her eyes. “You must really like him.” I bursted out laughing “Yeah I do, I really do. What about you Bri, who are you looking for?” she asked me, with a serious tone. Well, I wasn’t quite sure. There was Tyler, the photography fanatic. I was always a fan of his photos, and I liked every one of his i********: photos. There was Clark, the quarterback for the football team. He had lots of girls jumping on him all the time, and he was pretty cool to be around. We’ve been friends for awhile. Oh, and who could forget Mitch! He was the rich one. He drove his BMW to school everyday last year, and he gave me a wink in the hall, which made me drop to the floor after he passed me. They were all so popular, I could probably get any of them. “Bri, you there?” She asked me, snapping me out of my hypnotic-like state. “Yeah, sorry I was just thinking.” I said. “Well, you are lucky I was here. You almost ran into someone!” She started laughing. “Haha, now chill out, we’re here.” I shouted as we walked into the Caribou. We got to the counter, and ordered our usual… the Iced Malted Mocha, we paid, got our mochas and sat at the table. “You never answered my question. Who are you looking for Bri?” She now said, smiling at me. “Well, there is Tyler, Clark, and Mitch. I just can’t decide between one of them!” I said. “Oh your always so indecisive about everything.” She said. “If one of them walked through the door, who would you hope it was?” She said. As if on cue, he walked in. Malcolm. Now, he wasn’t bad looking or anything, just not the best looking guy out there. He was standing at 6’1, and his hair was actually styled nicely. I kind of had a thing for brown wispy hair on a guy. His blue eyes pierced everything he looked at, and he had some nice stubble on his face. His glasses kind of completed the look, they were the bigger framed ones and I kind of gave a small chuckle, because Tyler, Clark and Mitch all have blonde hair, and I was looking at Malcolm like he could compare to them. The only thing about him was that he was serious today. He usually had a small smile when I saw him, but today, it was as if he was angry at something. I wanted to know what it was, but Ashley started talking. “Bri, I lost you there, what’s going on?” she said. Then she looked at where I was looking and saw Malcolm at the counter. “Oh, you like HIM?” she whispered, so that only I could hear. “No, he is a geek Ashley. But I must admit, he caught me off guard.” I said. “Thank you miss, have a wonderful rest of your day!” We both heard that, as if it were right next to us. It was the first time we heard him say anything at all. He took a seat in the corner of the store, and he was drinking an Iced Malted Mocha too. We couldn't help but stare. I think Ashley was wondering why he was here, but I liked the way the sun reflected off his glasses and watch, it was kind of mesmerizing. I saw him pull his phone out of his pocket and take a call. “What! Josh, this is the first Saturday I’ve had off all summer, I can’t come in today. You said I could have it off.” *pause* “Well, if you guys really need me there, I can. I’ll be there in 50 minutes.”  Wow, 50 minutes? He must work really far away if that is the case. Now I kind of feel bad for him. He let out a sigh, one that you could hear from the other side of the store. He got up, put on his sunglasses, walked to his car, and drove off onto the freeway. “That was odd, I couldn’t help but stare at him” Ashley said “I know, it was weird seeing him here.” I said “Well, let's get going, my parents are expecting me to be home by 2.” She yelped. It was 1:50, and her parents were really strict. “Okay, let's get out of here.” I said. I couldn’t help but think and wonder about Malcolm. Why was he at Caribou, I didn’t even know he drank coffee. Why would he work on weekends over the summer, that seems odd too. Plus, I would have thought he would be at home with his family, since everyone knows he is a family person. Oh I do feel bad for him.
