Jack Soames staggered out of the Nag’s Head public house, tripping on the main step as he left and almost losing his balance completely and falling headfirst onto the gravel driveway.
Once he had regained his balance, Jack stood still for a moment to allow the night air to waft in through his nostrils. This in turn caused the car park to spin around him until he shut his eyes and shook the apparition clear.
In truth, he had only intended stopping in for a couple of pints, but there was a new barmaid on duty tonight and Jack thought that he would try his luck before one of the other regulars had the idea.
