Miko
My mouth fell open while he continued.
“I have no intention of touching you, unless you want me to?” His eyes dragged over my lips and I flushed a bright red, my heart almost exploding.
“I- I don’t!”
“Good.” He chuckled lightly. “Cause I don’t want that either. I’m not attracted to you. It’s gonna be strictly business between us.”
Ouch.
“If you agree to this deal, you’ll live with me cause you’ll be kicked to the streets in two days anyway. I’ll pay you handsomely as you work as my maid, so you’ll be able to cover your mom’s hospital bills that way.” He nodded once he finished, dropping and pocketing his hand.
I blinked slowly, searching his face, and trying to figure out the game he was playing at.
“I refuse. I don’t know what you’re planning or if this is some plan to ridicule me even more with Sean, but it’s not gonna work. Go tell him that.” I bit out, breathing out.
He arched a perfect brow, looking amused. “You think this is a game?”
I scoffed loudly. “I know it is one. After all, you never liked me! I know you told Sean I wasn’t good enough for him back then, so why will you be making such an offer to me now?”
He blinked once, looking surprised, then he barked out a laugh.
“That fucker Sean is smart, I’ll give him that, cause I never said some bullshit like that… I mean, I haven’t even spoken to him in about ten years.”
My eyes widened, unable to believe my ears.
So… Sean lied to me? Why?
“In ten years? Why?” I asked before I could stop myself and a stutter came over his face, his eyes darkening.
“He took two people important to me, so I’m gonna crush him.”
“Who?”
His eyes narrowed and he finally pulled away from me. “That’s no concern of yours, but I know that despite our feud, Sean still looks up to him— just like everyone does before they betray me… so, me popping out with you isn’t just gonna crush him, it would kill him.”
I blinked slowly, his words settling deep within me. The thought of getting a job as a maid, and a pay that would probably be hefty was mouth watering.
My mother would need surgery soon, and I won’t have to worry about rent for now cause I’ll be living with him… all in exchange for me playing out a fake girlfriend?
And that's the problem, all of this sounds too good to be true.
There’s undoubtedly an ulterior motive lying around somewhere.
Whatever that might be, I want no part of it.
“I’m sorry but I… I refuse.”

Hunter’s pov
“I’m gonna give you till midnight to come to a decision.” I informed her, scribbling my number and a few words in a paper, then I offered it to her. She accepted it, our fingers lightly brushing and her cheeks flushed delicately again.
She blushed very easily, and on sweeping my gaze over her, my mind flashed back to when I watched her do her thing on stage. It felt like I was watching someone else, a pert, little vixen and not the awkward, boring and introverted girl Sean dated for a few years.
“I- I’m not gonna change my mind, so there’s no need for that, but thank you for the offer.” She breathed, holding my gaze.
I clicked my tongue, utterly amused. “You’re gonna accept the offer, don’t act modest.”
A scowl settled on her face now. “The hell I will.”
“You know you want to, and you definitely will. The pay is hefty. You only have to act in love with me outside, prepare a few meals and take care of my house in private… and that’s it.” I reminded her and she scoffed, rolling her eyes.
“I definitely won’t. I’m not that desperate.”
I reached up and lightly traced my finger over her glistening collarbone, moving higher, and higher.
“But you are desperate, Miko. You’re in a tiny lingerie right now. You’ve never worn a bikini at the beach before. Doesn’t that tell you anything?”
I lightly gripped her throat, not tight enough to choke, but enough to remind her who’s in charge here. Her slick lips parted, and ragged breaths slipped out.
“F- f**k you and your offer, you arrogant asshole!” She finally shot at me, glowering and shoving at my chest but I didn’t budge.
Fuck. She was fun to mess with.
“Let me at least drop you off.” I offered after stepping away but she held a hand up.
Surprise trickled through me all over again. No one has ever declined an offer of mine, no matter what it is. No one has ever declined a ride with the famous Hunter Bellingham either.
“No, thank you. And I want you to please stop whatever this is, it’s not gonna work. If you think I’m pathetic to the point of jumping on this offer because of who you are, please think again. I don’t care about your status, and I won’t let you and Sean put me between whatever problems you two have.”
With that, she turned around and left, gently closing the door after her.
By the time I left the office— Orion, the club’s manager and the actual owner of the office, reemerged and after I asked, he confirmed that Miko’s indeed left.
I felt my lips twitch a little, her last words echoing through me.
She was certainly bolder than I expected. The way she spoke to me, not a lot of people could look me in the eye and do that.
I wasn’t worried about her refusing my offer. She was gonna accept it before midnight, I was certain.
She needed this, I made sure to point out her weaknesses and why she should grab this offer super fast.
“What about my father?” I asked and Orion’s face paled.
“H- he was our highest spender of the night and he requested a private session with Miko.”
A grin broke out on my face. “Wow, that’s… interesting.”
Miko wasn’t the only reason I was here tonight, I was also here for something else.
The ride back home was smooth and fast, and I made sure to keep my mind occupied before it wandered into the dark abyss.
Quietness welcomed me as soon as I arrived home, and I toed my shoes off, walking barefooted through the large house until I arrived in my large training room.
I picked the stick up, fiddling with a puck in my other hand when the sound of the door opening alerted me.
I knew who that was before she filled my doorway.
Isis, my manager.
She was the only one who knew the code into my house, and where it was also located.
I ignored her and began to play the puck, scoring goal after goal with precise shots after shots. By the time I’ve had about fifty pucks spilling from the goal post, Isis loudly cleared her throat.
“Sharp as ever.”
I pulled my shirt off, wiping my face with the fabric. She was holding out a cup of water when I dropped the shirt, which I accepted and fully downed at once.
“Are you sure you’re ready to return to the ice? And to the public?” She asked, and I didn’t miss the skepticism in her voice.
“I already told you I am.” I reminded her and she sighed loudly.
“I know! But are you really sure? You can still take more time, I don’t want anything triggering you out there.” She pointed out and I pursed my lips, turning away from her in irritation.
