It doesn’t change her intense dislike for anything relating to hockey, or her hatred for the Hunter. Miko “You’re fired.” My boss, the owner of the small clinic I work in as a cleaner, declared in a firm voice right after I stepped into his office. My vision briefly swam, the words sinking straight into my stomach like heavy rocks. “W- what? Why??” I cried after finding my voice. Mr Goldberg has always treated me like a daughter, letting me work overtime countless times because he knew how much I needed the money. “I’m sorry, okay? I hate to do this but it has to be done.” He added tensely, avoiding my eyes and not sounding like the same man who’s fussed over me countless times. My mind spiraled fast. Did I do something wrong? How am I gonna keep paying my bills without this job? As my face slowly crumbled, he sighed, looking guilty for a moment before reaching out to grab my hand. “Listen, dear… I really didn’t want to do this, I swear, but I don’t know who you offended. They asked me to fire you and if I don’t want the clinic to fall, I have to let you go.” I reared back, blinking in confusion. “That… that makes no sense!” He shook his head, pity swimming in his eyes now. “Trust me, it does. They were dead serious. So, please… if you don’t want me to lose my late wife’s clinic, please get your things and leave.” I stood in the same spot, numbness circulating within me and till unable to believe what was happening. This was the last thing I expected on walking in here this morning, especially after crying throughout the night. But now that I was thinking about it, it made sense, and there’s one person who can be responsible for this. My boyfriend, Sean. Well, until last night, he was my boyfriend. But not anymore. || last night || “Girl, drive faster!” I screamed excitedly from the passenger seat at Lily, my best friend who laughed loudly. “Relax, lovebird. We’re gonna get in the game just in time for the final whistle.” She assured me but my eyes were glued on the screen. I was streaming the game live, and Sean was on an epic run so far. It was an epic battle between Boston and Texas, and Sean and his team were undoubtedly gonna bring the cup back for Boston. “I wanna be there cheering for him!” I sighed out dreamily, watching the camera zoom in on Sean’s sweaty but heartstoppingly beautiful face. The crowd went crazy and I felt a warm buzz in my chest, knowing that he was mine and mine only. He was gonna return back home with me, and then we’d be wrapped up in passion throughout the night. Sean and I have been together since college, and although it’s been a secret due to his career, his love for me was all that matters. Lily and I were as i predicted, still stuck in traffic by the time the last whistle blew, and the win went to Sean who elegantly scored the last goal against a three players barricade. The crowd roared, Lily and I screamed our lungs out and I felt happiness coursed through my inside as I watched his teammates threw him in the air in celebration, wishing I was also there cheering for him. “Is there anything you want to tell your fans, Mr Mcalister?” The press asked once they swamped him, countless cameras and mic in his face. He grinned, looking opposite the court. “I think so.” The cameras followed his line of sight, setting on Ava Miller, a popular model of the country. She was in the vip section, looking elegant and poised as she blew him a kiss which he dramatically caught and licked up— to the crowd’s delight. The press went crazy, cameras went off, and my heart completely stopped, and my sight blurring. Lily pulled out of the road and tried taking the phone from me but I didn’t let her. “Is that your woman, Mr mcalister?!!” The press demanded excitedly and Sean nodded, his eyes still on her. A dreamy smile was on his lips, and he blew her a kiss. “You can say that.” The world around me tilted after that. || END || I refused to breakdown during the rest of the ride, but by the time we pulled up to the game, my hands were shaking and I could barely breathe properly. Lily kept assuring me it was probably a PR stunt, but my mind refused to accept that, because he usually told me beforehand if his manager was planning any PR stunt. By the time I arrived at his locker room, I found him tongue deep in Ava’s mouth, and the rest of my world shattered at that spot. Like that wasn’t enough, when I ran off, he chased after me— not to beg for my forgiveness, but to shove an NDA in my face, requesting for my signature. Enraged, I ripped the papers at his feet and stormed off. And… here we are. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that he’s behind this. I dragged myself home, my heart still in pieces from last night, and my head being a complete mess as well, cause I was jobless now. I unlocked my door and stepped in, then a startled cry left my mouth, my eyes flying wide on noticing Sean sitting on the couch there. His black hair framed his handsome face, and his dark eyes made my heartbeat briefing stop. “You’re back.” He drawled as he got to his feet and approached me, making my shock quickly morph into anger. “What the f**k are you doing here? I already told you I’ll send you your s**t!” He rolled his eyes, holding my keys out. “I’ve sent my stuff out while you were away.” My hands shook, the rage within me tripling as I snatched the keys. “Get out then.” He ignored me and pointed at the table. “Your landlord stopped by. He left you a little something.” A small, sinister grin tugged at his lips. Clouded with skepticism, I quickly grabbed the paper, reading over it fast, and my heart almost exploded on realizing it was a quit notice. A demand to move out in seven days. My mouth dropped open in shock, my vision briefly blurring out. “You bastard! This is your doing, isn’t it? Just like my boss suddenly firing me! Why are you doing this?!!” I gritted on facing him, my hands shaking from how angry I felt. If I get kicked out of here in a week, how am I supposed to get somewhere else without a job? All my savings to get back into college went into my mom’s hospital bills when her cancer returned unexpectedly. He folded his arms, looking unimpressed. “If you didn’t refuse to sign the NDA last night, this wouldn’t be happening.” He reasoned like that was supposed to justify all this. “You cheated on me, Sean. After three years. All your promises to me meant nothing. So of course I refused to sign the damned documents.” I hurled at him, all the pain from last night refusing at once. He let out a long sigh. “And I told you last night; it needed to be done. We’re on different grounds now. Why don’t you understand that? Sure, we dated, and so what? I’ve fallen out of love for you and that’s not a crime!” Those harsh words made my heart shrink together like wet sand and I angrily jabbed a finger in his chest. “What’s a crime is how you deceived me this whole time! You were never gonna go public with me, or marry me, or—” “Yes, I wasn’t!” He roared, throwing his hands up. “So what? What are you gonna do? It was fun while it lasted but you should’ve known it could never become serious. How can I take the daughter of a known murderer as a girlfriend? What if you murder me in the future too?!” I gasped, staggering back. Bile rose in my throat and my voice shook when I shrieked. “T- take that back! You told me you believed me when I opened up to you. My father was framed, he never committed that crime! You told me—” “My mind isn’t clouded anymore. He is a killer and you’re the daughter of a murderer.” A rippling pain tore through my chest, the ground underneath me briefly wavering. I blinked at Sean slowly, struggling to breathe and unable to believe this was the same kid I fell in love with at first glance. “Get out.” I whispered, pointing at the door. “Sign the f*****g papers, or I’ll ruin your pathetic life.” He warned sharply, his eyes hard. Tears blurred my eyes and I felt so mad at myself. For three years, I loved him wholeheartedly, attended all his games, supporting him physically and emotionally since he was nothing. And now, it just hurt that I never saw all of this coming. “GET. OUT.” I screamed, over and over again until he stormed out, the slammed door making the walls rattle hard.
