Hunter I hated when she hinted at my past despite me constantly telling her I hated it. I also hated that she could see through me most times. Like she probably guessed, I truly wasn’t ready to return back to the ice, but then, I never would be, unless I force myself like I’m doing now. The ice took away two people I cared about, leaving me with nothing but nightmares. I have all the fame and money in the world. Without ever returning back to the game, I’ll still be known as a legend till I die. That’s why I’m not returning for myself, but to crush all the people that need to be crushed. And I’m not gonna do it on the ice alone, hence where Miko comes in. “If you’re sure, I’ll put a statement out soon then.” Isis’ voice was reluctant but firm. “Wait, not yet. I want my first public appearance to be with a girl— with Miko.” My first public appearance after over three years would undoubtedly stir a lot of s**t. To avoid questions about my disappearance, I’ll need a distraction and that’s where Miko would start being useful. With her hanging off my arm, no one would remember my ex. They’d just assume I’ve dumped her since I was apparently the world’s biggest playboy. They aren’t wrong about the playboy part, but none of them would know the actual truth— that my ex was no more, and that they’d never see her again. A wave of pain shot through me my chest, which I trampled on before it could spread out. “Do you seriously think Miko would agree to this though? Did you make the offer mouth watering enough?” Isis’ words snapped me back to the present. I snorted. “She will, and who wouldn’t give anything to work as a maid for the great Hunter Bellingham?” “Someone who doesn’t give two f***s about hockey, perhaps? And she certainly hates your brother after he did her dirty, which by extension, affects you as well. And let’s not talk about how she might even quit the same day she starts working as your maid just like everyone else has!” I scowled at her. “Well, I already told you I don’t need a f*****g maid!” She folded her arms, glowering at me. “That’s not up for debate. We’ve talked about this! You’ll just starve to death and purposely miss all your antidepressants and adhd meds without one. You must have a maid.” An irritated sound left my mouth and I dragged a hand over my face, hating that I give so much power to her, cause she always takes things too damn far. “You already promised to not make Miko’s life hell if she agrees to this.” She reminded me and instantly, Miko’s face materialized in my head, I felt surprise fill my veins again, that she didn’t instantly jump on the offer, or try to seduce me on the spot like other girls would have. It had almost felt like she didn’t care about who I was— which has literally never happened before. Usually, people dated all my brothers, Sean included, because they wanted to get to me, and rationally, I thought that was Miko’s case, which was why I did believe she’d jump at the offer at once. But clearly, I was wrong about this. Anyways, I was certain I made her a very good offer tonight, and now, I just have to wait for her to accept the offer before midnight.
