Fifth Chapter

Eveline's POV It's been a week since my first classes, and I kinda adapted to being here. It almost felt like I am in the right place. As I said, almost. Now I am laying on Maeve's bed and making manicures from soft pink polish. We became closer when I arrived, she is so kind and funny, I wonder why she doesn't have a boyfriend? We all didn't forget about Eric, but lately, he is not around and they didn't talk for four days. I asked Theo about Maeve's relationship with Eric but he just snorted and said, "Ask my sister herself" "Maeve...?" I called her while doing my last finger. "Yeah?" she answered while doing her makeup. "Do you have a boyfriend?" I asked looking at her curiously. She bit her lip and answered "You know, I would tell you if I had" she sighed. "What about mister blondie?" I chuckled when she blushed. "Well, well, huh, who is blushing here!" I giggled and put away manicure tools. "What? I hate him! I would never date him!" she exclaimed standing up and coming to me. "Oh come on!" I frowned. "I think he likes you, but he is very arrogant though." "You know, he wasn't like this!" she narrowed her eyes and pouted her lips. "When we were kids, we used to hang out a lot! Like we were sort of...besties" she lowered her eyes and I saw her face become sad as she looked on the stone wall in front of her. "I knew it! Something between you happened!" I exclaimed and she answered immediately "No, Eveline! He has changed! And...even if I liked him...I am not his type, he just wants to hook up to fulfill his list, if you know what I mean..." she laid on the bed and groaned. "I miss the old Eric..you know, the old, funny, kind, innocent Eric. Who did everything to make me happy! It's sounded selfish but there is no day that I wouldn't think having him back...as a friend" She smiled remembering the memories but then her smile fade away and she uttered, "But he is gone...long ago. Things that happened to him are the one's that can change any person...I don't blame him." she said with a hoarse, shaking voice. "Oh, Maeve, yes, maybe he had changed but, he is still Eric, maybe not that innocent and open Eric you knew. You can't change a person...You should just accept him like this..." I lay on my belly, facing her. "I don't know Evie" she closed her eyes and groaned once again. "Come on, give it a try! Talk to him about this! About everything! I mean, have an adultish conversation, already!" I sat up, widening my arms. "Maybe you are right...I should try. But! I don't promise anything!" she exclaimed and I saw a glimpse of excitement and happiness inside of her eyes. "Yeah! That's my girl!" I took her hand and pulled her in a hug. "Hey, okay, enough about my relationship life, we are getting late!" she gibbered, standing up and taking a look in the mirror. It is already late-evening, we should be going to the ball, yes, a ball! Can you believe it?! Alexander organized it, he thought maybe students should hang out for a while before tests. Perks of having a young King. Or principle. Today in the afternoon, Zachary invited me to go with him, and of course, I agreed! By the way, he should be here at any minute! I rushed to the closet after finishing my makeup, I wore my silky brown dress on straps, which was very long, it had a long cut on one side which made me look very attractive and hot, revealing my olive skin. My hair was loose and natural wavy and my makeup was a little bit glittery and smoky which very suited my dress. And finally, I wore my golden heels that shined on the light. "Mamma mia! SOS! SOS! Too hot!" Maeve screamed looking at me. "Merci! By the way, you look gorgeous as well, Eric will faint when he will see you" I said giggling while Maeve rolled her eyes. "If he will show up!" she half-whispered. Maeve was in a red suit, she didn't wear anything under the jacket, it looked hot and classy. Her hair was wet and combed back, and what about makeup, she had thick mascara on, eyeliner, highlighter, and matte red lipstick. And she wore her classic black stilettos. I mean...is this girl come from VOGUE magazine or something? After hearing a knock on the wooden door, we glanced at it and furiously stood up. "Oh, our escorts came!" she clapped her hands and went to the door. "Oh..." I heard her saying. "What? Is it Zachary?" I went to the door and saw the person whom I waited at least. "What a hell you are doing here?" I asked frowning. "Good evening to you too, by the way, you look adorable," he said licking his lower lip. STOP DOING THIS! I rolled my eyes and answered, "Can't tell the same" even though he looked gorgeous in this dark blue tuxedo without a tie and shirt's first two buttons were free. His hair was ruffled and he was smelling...Wow! Get a grip, Eveline! Oh my God, what a heck I was thinking about! No! He is a King! It's like crushing on my principal! Well if a principal is young and good-looking....can't a student date him? He chuckled and leaned on the door frame checking me out. "Well, I came here to escort you to the ball" "Excuse me?" I leaned closer from anger and I swear I forgot everything that I thought about him. "Kitten, I am sorry but Zach can't escort you" Alexander breathed out these words like he was annoyed somehow. "WHY?" I yelled, receiving a glare from Maeve. "Well, he is already escorting my dear sister." He grinned sarcastically. What? Probably he is lying, Zachary, himself asked me to the ball, why would he abandon me? "He abandoned you because he already promised to escort my sister! He couldn't refuse to her, she is a princess after all." and again he reads my mind! "Get out of my head! Your bastard highness! If you will again read my mind! I swear I will..." before I would say something threatening, Maeve interrupted me and said, "She will get mad! Just. mad." while killing it other with a glare, we heard Alexander's chuckle. "Alright, so are you coming or not?" he said, looking into my eyes while leaning on the doorframe. "Of course, she is coming!" this girl will drive me underground... Maeve pushed me towards Alexander and closed the door giggling. Oh god, sometimes I hate her. I didn't release that I was standing too close to Alexander, like TOO CLOSE! My palms were on his chest and his hands were on my waist. I nervously stepped back, clearing my throat, I said, "Let's go then...Your highness" Alexander smiled and as always bit his lower lip which was red as a cherry. He walked straight and I was walking beside him, not daring to say anything. After three minutes of silence, we finally came to the ballroom. "Please, Mademoiselle" I looked at Alexander who was giving me his elbow to hold it. I hesitated for a moment but then took it, frowning, and said, "Thanks..." "Huh?" He questionably looked at me. "For coming and escorting me..." I sighed not daring to look into his blue-green eyes. "I planned to invite you today at lunch but, I found out that Zach already called you," he chuckled. "Well, here you are, escorting me, not Zachary" I smiled, breathing heavily. My heart was beating so fast, I couldn't even focus because of it. "Yes...Guess destiny is a destiny..." he breathed out. We were standing there, our faces inches from one another. And these warm lights from torches, this atmosphere was magical, as if I was in some fairytale. For a moment I wanted to kiss this man who looked like a huntsman Orion from greek mythology. We both leaned towards each other and we could've made this sweet move if the doors of the ballroom didn't stormy open. We both recoiled from each other and cleared our throats. My cheeks flamed and I couldn't feel more uncomfortable. I looked away but Alexander made his way inside. The guard nodded to Alexander before we headed in. The night promises to be interesting.
