Ace dropped me quickly and together we made a beeline for the stairs. We probably only had a few minutes before all of security figured out what had happened. We ran through the ballroom and dodged dancing couples and dancing singles. We darted through the kitchen and dodged eating couples and Evander. We jogged through the hall and dogged kissing couples, finding a nice quiet spot on the grand staircase. Ace slid his finger across his glasses and disappeared. I don't mean he left, I mean he quite literally turned invisible. Another of his amazing inventions. “Remember what to do?” his disembodied voice asked. I nodded, talking to invisible Ace was terrifying. I crossed my legs and leaned back on my arms the picture of serene elegance. Guards poured into the room guns trained straight on me. I pursed my lips as fear bubbled up inside me but I pushed it back down and smiled. “So you caught me?” I glanced around at my audience. “Is it legal to shoot someone for trespassing?” I could almost see the loading icon over their heads. “Oh well.” I shrugged, “Not like your boss cares much for you anyway.” I tucked my hair behind my ears, “Expendable.” They didn't seem to be buying anything I was saying but it bought us some time. Finally after about 2 minutes of me rambling on about labor laws the guy who I assumed was the leader raised his hands to silence me. “Enough! We are escorting you from the premises with or without force.” With that they began walking towards me. I just needed a few more seconds. I was still waiting for Ace’s signal. I never thought I would see the day but Evander walked around the corner holding a plate of cheese balls. Actually I did think I would see that day but I never thought I would see the day Evander saved the day. He had just plopped a handful of cheese balls in his mouth and spit them out when he saw all the guns. He began to back away slowly. I'm not proud of this moment but it did happen. I sighed deeply, “Fine I'll admit it. Evander Walls I'm in love with you.” Evander froze and dropped his plate. Cheese balls spilled all over the beautiful tile floor rolling everywhere but I kept going. “That's why I snuck in here, I had to meet you!” The guards all paused and the tall skinny one in the back lifted up his glasses to brush away a tear “that's beautiful.” Everyone except the captain nodded in agreement. I wasn't really sure what to do next or what was taking Ace so long but the door at the top of the stairs slammed open and a woman of about twenty two with long curly hair and bright blue eyes appeared. She was breathing heavily and had a scowl twisted on her face like it was stuck there but believe it or not she still looked like a model, a very angry model. “I told you I needed five minutes to get ready!” She screamed. “FIVE!” The rage was shooting like lasers from her eyes. Thank goodness I was hidden from her view. “I told you not to knock, to handle the problems yourselves but you are so incredibly incompetent that…..” I stood up from where I was sitting and tipped the cowboy hat at her. The light hit the diamonds and they cast sparkling effects all around the room. “Howdey mam.” For a moment a flicker of greed flashed across her face but it was quickly replaced with awe. She smiled innocently. “Why don't we come into my office to talk? It's quite loud out here.” Evander abandoned the cheese balls and ran back to the party. I hope that is the last I see of that guy. Faithann gestured at the room she just came out of and I followed her inside. Almost as soon as she had closed the door her sweet voice became poisonous. “Where did you get that?” She took a step closer, a crazed look in her eye. I searched for invisible Ace and saw the buttons on the floor to ceiling safe pressing themselves. She took another step and grabbed my throat. “Where!” “Ace,” I gasped.
