“I would like to propose a toast.” I say, clearing my throat and standing up with my glass in hand.
I look around me and everyone had their eyes on me, waiting for my toast.
Brunch, this time, just the guys with their wives and kids. Ethan and Trevor’s parents usually join us but this time they have a retirement party to attend. Mom comes from time to time but she's more of an introvert and enjoys spending her weekends gardening and cooking. As for James’s family, the situation is still tense with his mother who is persona non grata to any of our events. His father and sister join us frequently but his brother, Connor, has been avoiding our gatherings. He does join us when we have some big celebrations, a birthday, or a kids’ related event. But mostly, he made himself scarce.
