Javier POV A few weeks had passed since the Fall Ball, and Javier standing in fathers office, volunteering to go to the Chrysalis’ pack Alpha meeting in lieu of his brother. “You want to go?” Javier stood resolutely. “I know it seems out of character. But all of this mystery regarding the pack intrigues me. I’d love to know what’s going on there”. Mateo stood there, looking dumbfounded. “But it’s a BALL. You hate balls. This will be 2 balls in as many months.” Javier shrugged. “I won’t be going for the ball, I’ll be going for the meeting”. He shrugged. “Lets call it intelligence gathering. We know nothing about them. Callisto kept to themselves before they were destroyed. This is a great opportunity to learn about them, this new Chrysalis pack.” Mateo chimed in “I heard that Elder Roy was so mad after their council meeting, he had to be excused from the council!” Javier turned to his younger brother. If that was true, then something must have happened during the meeting. Javier turned to his father. “They were once one of the strongest, most advanced packs in the southern region, and they are being told to hold the Alpha’s meeting so other packs may get to know them better. Again. Is it not a smart move for us?”. Javier hoped he wasn't laying it on too thick, but truthfully, he wanted to go for himself. His wolf hadn't been the same since the Fall Ball, and he himself was more short-tempered than usual. He wanted to go, he wanted to see the mystery woman again. She intrigued him, and despite her obviously being mated, there was something that drew him to her. His father nodded. “I agree” Javier let out a breath he didnt know he was holding. Hi father turned to his older brother “CJ, as you are going to be Alpha soon, I would prefer to see you attend to represent our pack.” Just liek that, Javier’s hopes were dashed. Of course his father wanted CJ to go. He turned to his brother, eyes pleading. CJ eye’s eyes seemed to read his brothers face, before turning to their father. “Of course father, but if Javier is ok with it, it would be a huge help if he went instead. I need to stay here, Guille needs me”. Javier smiled gratefully at his brother, who winked at him. Javier turned back to his father. “So its settled?. I will travel as delegate to the Chrysalis Pack tomorrow, returning after the Alpha meeting.” His father nodded. “Take Mateo with you also. He could use the experience” Javier rolled his eyes when Mateo’s eyes lit up. He knew exactly what type of experience his younger brother was hoping to get, and it wasn't business related. “If that's all, Father, CJ, may I leave?” His father dismissed him with a wave of his hand, and Javier left the room, going to his room to pack. The Chrysalis pack was about a 1 day drive away, and despite what he said, he wanted to attend the ball before the meeting, and try to find that woman. Javier had been surprised when he arrived at the Chrysalis pack earlier in the day. He was not sure what to expect, but this wasn't it. The Chrysalis pack was a lot larger than he expected. Nestled not too far in the dense forest, the packhouse was at least 3 stories tall. In front there was at least one football field. It looked like it could be training grounds but to the side was a park there were few streets but what were their small cottage like homes. There was a kind a happy buzz that permeated the air. He had no troubles when he reached the border, identifying himself and he was waved through. A small, shy, omega showed him and Mateo to thier room, smiling at him every so often. Javier was surprised that he felt at ease here, which was odd, given that most packs he felt uncomfortable in. Despite being so close to the forest he could smell home; like a fresh sea breeze next with a hint of jasmine. Javier spent the early afternoon exploring the area. He noted a human town that was close by: the pack seemed to have developed a good relationship with them from what he could tell. As they drove through earlier, he saw a small cafe, and made his way there now. The patrons seem to be a mix of wolf and human alike. The cafe itself was obviously run by wolves, with the speed that orders were going out. He wasn't ashamed to say that he was impressed; this pack had been decimated to the point that there was nothing left. But the Pearce twins had returned, and with them they had built a thriving community. Javier returned to the packhouse, to shower and get ready Javier returned to the packhouse, to the room he and Mateo were shown to earlier. It was nothing spectacular; it had 2 bedrooms, each with a double bed, small living area and shared bathroom. He quickly showered, donning some black pants and light blue button down shirt. He rolled up the sleeves, leaving the top 2 buttons undone. He found himself checking his appearance in the mirror in the living area as Mateo came out of his room, similarly dressed. He glanced in his direction, noting Mateo was staring at him. ‘What?’ he asked, turning around. Mateo smirked, looking him up and down. “I dont think Ive ever seen you put this much effort into your looks before. Add that to suddenly wanting to arrive in time to attend the ball, and I’m thinking that Senor Javier may have an ulterior motive for being here.” Javier shrugged, hoping he looked nonchalant. “Not really. I just figured that people are more likely to talk at the ball, and it’ll give us more opportunity to hear things, as well as have a look around.” Mateo snorted, raising his eyebrows that made Javier think of his mother. . ‘If you say so”. Javier straightened and shook his head as he walked over to his brother, turning him around and pushing him towards the door. ‘Just…lets go”.
