Chapter 4

Elijah's POV

After he left i came back to my room my phone was ringing continously.

I pick it up to look who's calling, just to find it's my annoying best friend chase. I answer the call

“Hello“

“You asshole!!! bastard! Annoying piece of shi-----”

I remove my phone from my ear. He's literally screaming through the phone.

“If you have just called to curse me then i'm hanging up.” i interrupt him.

“Wait!” he shouts again.

“What now?” i ask impatiently.

“Look at you acting like you're extremely busy” he replies.

“Cut the crap and get to the point” i reply irritably.

“Why didn't you come yesterday?” he asks.

“Where?” i ask pretending to not know what he's talking about.

“Oh now you're acting all clueless huh!” he snaps.

“Chase.” i ask in a tone he knows all too well.

“To the pool party at derek's house. Everyone was there, they were asking about you.” he replies immediately.

“You know i hate crowds chase.” i reply stating the obvious.I hear him sigh.

“I know, I know, okay fine but,you're coming to my place right now and before you start to refuse let me tell you it will be just the four of us. There's no party or anything. It's friday so we decided to skip school and hang out at my place.”

“Okay”

I agree immediately. As i have to tell them that i'm coming back to school.

“What? Okay? Does that mean you're coming?” he asks not believing what i just said.

“Yeah i'm coming. I have to tell you guys something” i reply

“Oh, something? good thing or bad thing?” he asks and i know that now he's getting curious.

“Good for you, bad for me.” i reply mysteriously.

“Hey!! How can you say that? How can something that is bad for you will be good for me?”

“You'll know when i'll tell you.” i reply even though i know all too well that now his curiosity will reach it's peak.

“No! Tell me now! Common tell me now!” he demands.

“I'm hanging up chase. I'll see you in half an hour. Bye” i reply.

“Hey don't hang up on me, first tell me----------

I hang up directly. My best friend can be hell annoying when he gets all curious. Well he's annoying all the damn time even when he's not curious.

I decide to eat something before i go to his place. I go downstairs and go straight to the kitchen and help myself with some pancakes and juice. After eating breakfast i go to the living room to find my mom sitting on the couch flipping pages of a magazine. Dad was sitting adjacent to her and he was staring at her like a lost puppy, while my mom was ignoring him. Looks like mom is still annoyed.

"Hey mom" i say breaking the silence as i sit down beside her.

My mom looks up from the magazine that she was reading and gives me a warm smile, which i return.

“So where's everyone else?” I ask not finding any of my siblings in the living room.

"They have already left for school" she replies.

"Oh okay, Then i should also head out” i say getting up from the couch.

"Where are you going?” She asks confused and curious. she knows i rarely step out of the house.

"Chase's place” i reply.

“Oh Alright, go, you should go out more often” she says getting up and pecking my cheeks.

“Are you still mad at dad?” I whisper in a low voice that only she can hear.

“No i'm not” she replies innocently.

“Um, you're not talking to him or should i say you're ignoring him, acting like he's not around and he's looking at you like a lost puppy” i say nudging her to look at dad who's still staring at her.

She turns around to look at him.

He gives her a big smile.

She gives him a glare.

Dad flinches back.

And it took all my energy to suppress my laugh which was about to burst out.

She rolls her eyes and turns her attention back at me.

“Nah, I'm just pretending to be mad, I know he will do anything to make me talk to him again” she whispers giving me a smug smile.

“You and your silly antics” i say shaking my head.

“Oh hush up! and where's the fun if i'll forgive him so easily” she replies cheekily.

I chuckle, she literally have him wrapped around her little finger.

“I'll go now see you later” i say giving her a side hug and kiss on her forehead and walk out of the living room.

It takes me about 20 minute drive to reach chase's place.

I park my car and head to the front door. After entering the password the front door opens and i walk in. I can hear their voices coming from the backyard so i start walking towards it.

As i enter i spot my three friends sitting on the chairs and chatting or more like arguing about something.

Chase spots me first.

“Elijah!” he beams and walk towards me and gives me a brotherly hug.

"Finally you came, i thought you were not coming and ditching us again” he says dramatically.

I roll my eyes at his behaviour. I look towards my other two friends Cole and Kyle who were smiling as i approach them, they both gave me a hug and then we settle down on the chairs.

Chase hands me a bottle of coke, i take a sip while the others just stare at me.

"So?" Chase asks breaking the silence.

"what?” i ask.

"what is the big news that you wanted to tell us?” he asks barely hiding his excitement.

"yeah he's been going crazy after your call and annoying the hell out of us” kyle snickers.

"you're the one who annoys us, not me you asshole and I am just curious” chase glares at him, while kyle laughs loudly and cole chuckles.

Then they turn their attention back at me, waiting for me to speak.

Without beating around the bush i go straight to the point and tell them the news.

"I'm joining back school this year” i say and they all look shocked at my sudden revelation. After what seems like an hour has passed, though it was only a minute chase reacted first.

"Are you serious?” He asks still looking shocked.

“Yupp“ i reply and take another sip of my coke.

“you're not lying, are you? Because if this is some kind of stupid prank or something i'll beat the s**t out of you!” chase yells loudly.

“I agree. You better not be lying to us or you won't be able to walk out of this door in a single piece” Kyle says looking serious, Cole and Chase both nod in agreement.

I put down my coke on the table and lean back on the chair. Looking at their serious expressions i sigh.

"I'm not lying guys and this is not a prank. I'm telling the truth, I am going back to school this year. You can ask my mom if you don't believe me, she's over the moon after i told her about this” I reply and look at them waiting for them to react.

Not to my surprise chase is the first one to react. As expected.

He jumps up from his chair and throws a fist up and starts screaming excitedly.

“Yes! yes! yes! I'm so f*****g happy! Finally you're willing to come back! Arrhhhh i'm so happy.”

He pulls me up from my chair and envelopes me into a hug. Followed by cole and Kyle.

After that we sit down and I look at them they have a happy smile on their face and i can't help but sigh again. Apart from my family i guess i have also worried my friends. They were always very supportive in my every decision. So when last year i decided to start online schooling they yelled profanities at me but in the end supported and respected my decision. But i could still see how much they missed me which was pretty obvious by the hints they gave me to change my mind and join school back again. Especially chase, even though he's a supporting best friend he's a pain in the ass. Everytime he came home or whenver we hung out together he used to constantly tell me what has happened in school and how much i'm missing out on the things that are happening there and how much fun I could have if i come back.

“What made you suddenly change your mind? I thought you'll not come back, and continue online schooling and also we only have a year left.” kyle asks with a smile on his lips.

“Yeah, i remember no matter how much we tried to persuade you, you never changed your mind” cole adds in agreement.

“yeah i even tried to make you jealous and envious by telling you how much fun we are having in school, but it was of no use, you wouldn't budge” chase says dramatically to which i roll my eyes at him.

“It's because of my parents and especially my mom that i have decided to go back to school. She's worried and I don't want to worry her even more. She thinks going back to school will help me take my mind of from certain things and will keep me distracted. I just wanted to make her happy so i made the decision, and you know very well how much i love her i can do anything for her happiness” I say and lean my head back and close my eyes.

Silence is all i can hear. I know what they are thinking. All four of us have been extremely close and they know everything about my past, about my demons that haunt me.

"we're happy you are willing to come back” cole says patting my shoulder.

I open my eyes and give him a smile.

“so what day will you be rejoining?” chase asks.

“Monday probably, if all goes well. When i was leaving school last year the principle had told me that i can rejoin anytime i want. I contacted him and he said but i can start attending classes from monday” i reply.

“Monday? As in this upcoming monday? He asks again.

“Yeah” i nod.

“cool. I'm excited! How about we celebrate? You're finally coming back to school after a year! Let's go clubbing“ he suggests.

“No. I'm not going” i reply plainly.

“Don't be a spoil sport elijah” chase groans.

“I'm not going and that's final. And if you want me to pick you up for school on monday like i used to do before then you better drop your idea of clubbing” i say and his expression brightens.

“You said it. You're not allowed to back out now.” he says pointing his index finger at me.

“Thanks man, you saved me finally. I've been picking this i***t every morning for a year. It's a torture. He always wakes up late and i end up missing my first class.” cole says laughing.

“as if you like attending classes” chase mutters.

“It's your fault that you need someone to take you to school and then drop you back home, Who told you to slam your car into principle's car. Not only you got suspended, he even ordered that you're not allowed to bring your car or even your motorbike to school” cole says and chase glares at him.

“It was an accident, Okay! and if my dad wasn't the trustee of this f*****g school i would've never listened to that f*****g principle. My dad wanted me to set an example, that even if i'm the son of the trustee, i have to abide the rules and accept the punishments. He just wouldn't let me drive any of my car or motorbike to school. He's such a pain in the ass” chase groans.

“Still you're problem. Why make us suffer?” cole says playfully earning a smack on his head from chase.

Cole lifts his fist to punch him but chase starts running and disappears into the house with cole following closely behind, leaving only me and kyle in the backyard.

“excited or nervous? You're going back after a year afterall” kyle asks teasingly.

“you know very well kyle, i don't get excited or nervous” i reply without any emotion.

“ that's true” he laughs.

“you know even though you weren't there for a year people were still scared of you, they feared that you might come back and now i'm excited to see their reaction when they'll get to know that you're back” he snickers and i shake my head.

I was feared by them. I don't know why. Maybe they thought me as a bully or something which i was not. I just didn't like to talk to anyone except my friends and my siblings, as they were also in the same school and people knew that we were siblings but they were not scared of them.

Cole and chase came back with chase having a bruised cheek, he flops on his chair and glares at cole who smirks at him.

“So what were you guys talking about?” chase asks.

“nothing, i was just telling him how much our fellow schoolmates missed him” kyle says teasingly.

Cole and chase starts laughing.

“I'm excited to see what happens on monday when he'll make his grand entrance. Their horrifying expressions will be worth watching” chase says between his laugh.

“I'm not making any grand entrance” i deadpanned at him.

“Oh please. The demon king of hell! Ice king of school! Is coming back how can there be no grand entrance” cole says listing the names that people call me behind my back, they don't have the courage to say these names infront of my face.

“hell yeah! We'll make our entrance at 8:50 that's when they are loitering in the hallway. We'll give them the biggest shock of the year, early in the morning just before the classes start” chase suggests and the rest two nod their heads in agreement, i sigh irritably. There's no point in arguing with these idiots.

“ so what are we doing now? I'm getting bored” i say.

“let's play poker” kyle suggests and we all agree. Chase goes inside the house to bring the cards. He returns with the cards and few bottles of beer.

“i'm not drinking, I have to drive back here” i say when he passes me a can.

“you can stay here for a night” he offers

“not happening” i reply.

He shrugs and mutters “suit yourself”

We play for 2 hours. With him continously loosing all his money. I don't know why he plays when he knows he can't stand a chance against any of us.

At last when his wallet is completely empty, he gets up and storms out of the backyard, kyle and cole starts laughing.

“You're such a sore loser chase” cole shouts.

“shut up!“ chase yells back from the house.

Three of us play for an hour ,then we decide to head back inside. To our delight chase already ordered Pizza and chinese. We started eating and decided to watch a movie.

It was half past eleven when i returned home. The lights were already off which meant that my family had already retired to their respective rooms and were sleeping.

I heard the sound of footsteps coming from the stairs. I turned around to find my sister holding an empty water jug and walking down the stairs.

She saw me and gave me a smile which i returned.

“you're back” ashley says, as she reaches the last stair.

“yeah. Why are you still awake? It's late ash.” i say frowning.

“um...i...i..was doing my assignment. Yeah that's right i was doing my assignment” she says shuttering at first and i know she's lying.

“You're lying” i state simply.

“I'm n-not” she shutters again.

“you shutter when you lie. You can lie to anyone but not me and you know that.” i say and she rolls her eyes at me.

“you're so controlling” she mutters.

“were you talking to that stupid boyfriend of yours” i ask teasingly. I know how much she hates it when i say anything bad about her boyfriend.

“he's not stupid” she huffs and glares at me.

“Fine. He's not stupid” i mimick her.

“Elijah please! You've only met him once and you said he gave you a good impression. Mom, dad, liam, scott, and even the little fellows liked him. Alot!. and i know you're only calling him 'that’ just to irritate me.” she flips her hair back and continues to glare at me.

Well that is actually true. He did gave me a good impression and i like that boy, he treats my sister like a princess that she is. I had him investigated when they started dating and i did not find anything wrong about him. Though my sister doesn't know that. She'll throw a damn tantrum if i tell her. I did it just to make sure she is not dating some douchebag. I'm controlling when it comes to certain things but it's not that i'll stop her from having a love life. I just want to be rest assured that she's with a good person.

“next time i'll meet him i'll ask him not to call you after 10. You need sleep. You should not stay awake this late.” i tease her again. Though i won't do such a thing it's fun to tease her.

“you'll not do that! Or else i'll never talk to you again” she whisper yells at me and i just laugh.

“Elijah” she says irritably.

“fine i won't. You know i won't do that, I was just teasing you” I say ruffling her already messy hair.

She groans and slaps my hand away.

Then suddenly her expression brightens and she asks.

“ mom said you're going back to school from monday. Is it true?”

“yup”

She squeals and hugs me.

“oh, I'm so happy bro. I thought you'll turn yourself into a person who lives his life into complete isolation. You rarely came out of your room this entire year and when you did you barely interacted with outsiders. Finally you're going back. I hope we share the same classes, so that i can copy your assignments and homework, and if we sit next to each other in class i can copy from you during class tests. That way i won't have to worry about my grades.” she giggles.

“I'm sure you're more happy about getting to copy my assignments and cheating in class tests. I don't know how you managed to pass last grade” I tease her.

“he..he...well I actually made a new friend last year. She was a new student and super intelligent. She let me copy from her. Ah! I love her she's the cutest little thing. You should meet her too. I know you don't like making new friends but you'll like her. I promise. I'll introduce you, maybe if you really like her you two might fall in love and then get married---------

I place my hand on her mouth to stop her from spouting any more nonsence.

“You should go back to sleep now and if you introduce any girl to me in school I might do something to scare your boyfriend” i say playfully.

“Hey! You're not going to do anything to him, and even if you do he'll not get scared anyway” she replies flipping her hair back.

“Whatever, just don't introduce any girl to me, are we clear?” i ask seriously.

“crsytal” she replies and gives me a salute like a soldier, laughs and turn around to walk towards the kitchen to fill her jug.

I chuckle looking at her disappearing figure. My sister has the hobby of matchmaking. She has introduced me to a number of girls no matter how many times i tell her not too. The girls that she introduced were mostly scared to even look at me so it was not difficult getting rid of them. But still this didn't discourage my sister. She says i should get a girlfriend, sure the girls she introduced were beautiful, but they didn't spike my interest. My friends often tease me because of her habbit of matchmaking and no matter how many times i tell her to stop this she ignores my complains. Some girls asked her to introduce them to my friends which she did, even though neither those girls nor my friends wanted to have any kind of serious relationship, it didn't bother her.

Chase who is a typical player happily gets along with every girl who's interested in him, but not before telling them that he doesn't date but they can have some fun. I don't think after knowing his playboy attitude any girl will ever want to have a serious relationship with him, but they do agree to have that kind of fun with him.

Cole is also the same , he flirts around a lot, though he doesn't sleep around with every girl he flirts with, unlike chase.

Kyle is different, he likes to know a girl and when he gets into a relationship he treats her very well, even though he has dated only one girl and nobody knows who this mysterious girl was, it did not end well, they broke up on a bad note. So he's kind off heartbroken after that and has not gotten into a relationship with any other girl ever since then.

Ashley appears back holding a jug of water from the kitchen.

“ Why are you still standing here?” she asks.

“Nothing i was just thinking about something” i reply

“let's head back upstairs then. I'm sleepy.” she yawns and i nod. We start climbing the stairs.

When we reach near the door of her room she pecks my cheek and wishes me goodnight.

“night bro“

“night ash.”

She enters her room and i go to my room which is right next to her's.

I head into the bathroom to take a shower before going to bed.

After taking shower i return to my room. I walk towards my bed, before lying down i take out the sleeping pills from the drawer. I take a pill with some water and lay down on my bed. I know i should stop taking them, i did tell Dr. Steven that i'm not taking these pills anymore, but i'm exhausted. I need the 4-5 hours of sleep and the pills will help me in that.

I close my eyes waiting for sleep to engulf me.
