What....Now?

Anna When I moved to Scotland, I expected more Outlander, romance, and men in kilts. Instead, I ended up with Fatal Attraction and Lisbeth Salander. I wouldn’t mind so much if Claire really did look like Lisbeth things might not have been so bad. Claire was humming to herself and holding her stomach with a dreamy look on her face. The man that was with her seemed to tread lightly around Claire. I did not blame him one bit, the throbbing in my head and the woman seemed to be a ticking time bomb. “Claire, she doesn’t look well, I think we need to get her to a doctor or at least have someone look at her.” I agreed with the man, I had a raging headache that was probably a concussion. At least the crazy broad didn’t have a gun. “Oh, Maddox you are silly. No one is going to miss her if she is hurt or dead.” I didn’t like the way she giggled when she said dead. “I keep telling you that the Nikolaev family will miss her and they are people you do not want to anger.” What did he mean about Alexei’s family? Sure they gave off some old-school vibes but the way he is talking, he acts like they are mafiosos. “You’re just being paranoid Maddox. Come on the baby and I are hungry.” She flounced out of the room and I was still left tied to a chair. I tried to move my hands a bit to get the feeling back into them but there was no luck. Maddox looked nervous and twitchy, as he stared at the door. He walked over toward me and leaned in close, he smelled sour as if he hadn’t showered in a bit. “I have been in contact with Alexei. He knows you are alive and I will be doing what I can to get you out of here.” He had to be doing this for a reason but at this point, I couldn’t care less. I just did not want to deal with Claire and her brand of crazy. “Maddox you better not be falling for that stupid slut.” Maddox flinched and gave me a pleading look as he hurried from the room. So he was a part of this madness and yet he seemed to be an unwilling participant in this scheme. I felt slightly bad for him. He seemed to be infatuated with Claire and you can’t help whom you love but he was running up a never-ending hill. Claire poked her head inside the room and sneered at me. She motioned for him to follow her out of the room. Sighing I wanted to get back to my home and my animals. My head was killing me, my stomach was in knots. I knew Alexei would do anything to find me and Gregor would as well. Maybe I should give him another chance when I get back. Chewing my lip I thought about the kiss with Sullivan and rolled my eyes. I was living in a reverse harem but without the harem. There was a loud crash and then a scream. I turned my head towards the door and saw Maddox rushing in, he cut the binds that held my legs and arms to the chair and he tossed a bag and keys at me. “I bought you some time. There is a phone in there, take the car and get as far from here as you can. Call whomever you need to come to pick you up.” I shook out my hands and wrists, my legs felt like lead weights. “Thank you Maddox and if you can, get as far away as you can from her. I will make sure to let them know you were an unwilling accomplice.” He smiled sadly at me and shook his head. “That is nice of you to say but I am just as guilty as she is. If I could take the whole burden of prosecution I would.” Frowning, she needed to pay for her crimes but I was not going to squander the opportunity. “Thank you again, where are we?” He heard a screech and someone banging on a door. “Italy. Now go get out of here and stay close to Alexei and someone when you get back. I can’t promise she won’t do this again.” I patted his shoulder and frowned. He was a good guy, just misdirected. I hurried as fast as my legs could carry me and hit the panic button to see which car would respond. It was a dusty blue beater and I hoped it would get me out of here and as far away from Claire as I can get.
