Today is a Good Day!

Jer There was too much going on, it has been getting in the way of my one-on-one time with Daniel and we haven’t been able to play doctor in a while. It is partly because he has been busy trying to find Anna and working. I’ve been worried sick about her and trying to track her down while also trying to keep the estate running. Sullivan and Melina have also been a huge help. I looked in the mirror and scowled I was already looking ashy and I had baggage under my eyes. They were some dark contractor-sized trash bags. Groaning I applied my retinol cream in hopes that it could help with the stress lines and bags. That was when I saw it, the offensive thing in my hair. I let out a scream and backed away from the mirror horror sweeping through me. It couldn’t be! Sullivan and Melina came crashing into the bathroom while I tried to suck back the tears that wanted to spill down. “What happened? Are you ok?” Sullivan’s eyes were narrowed and he was shirtless, I was momentarily distracted by the way his biceps were bulging as he held the baseball bat he carried aloft. “LOOK AT THIS!” Melina squinted at where I was pointing and chewed on her lip. “What the heck am I looking at Jer? All I see is a few gray hairs.” I gasped and practically pressed my nose up to the mirror to see what she saw, there were in fact more than the one gray hair I saw but yes there were a few. Oh, Anna so owed me! She was causing me to go prematurely gray, wait was my hairline receding as well. Panic closed my throat and I started gasping for air. Sullivan, bless his heart looked absolutely baffled and Melina was cursing under her breath in Spanish. Like I didn’t know what that little demoness was saying about me. “I will have you know that I am in fact a Queen and I am a fabulous one at that thank you very much. However, I am much too young to have wrinkles and gray hair!” What if Daniel saw my gray hair and he wasn’t into grandpas? “I will leave you to this Mel I’m going to head back to Caleb.” Sully shook his head and I could practically hear the pity in his voice. I was going to be an old hag! “Come on Jer, sit down, and let’s talk about this.” Melina led me out to my room and sat me in the chair. She sat down across from me and stared at me, I shouldn’t blame Anna for causing wrinkles and gray hair to appear. “What if we never find her Mel?” The tears spilled down my cheeks and I put my head in my hands. I lost my bestie and now that I’m turning into a haggard crone, I’m going to lose my man too. “Anna is resourceful besides Alexei’s dad has people looking for her, Claire will not get away with this and if Alexei’s people don’t handle it I have a few cousins that will love to get their hands dirty.” I saw the maniacal glint in Melina’s eyes. I loved my sister-in-law, but sometimes her fierceness scared the hell out of me. This was one of those times that I would piddle my pants if I didn’t know her. I did not want to get on her bad side. “Melly honey, sometimes you scare me.” She snorted and rolled her eyes. “Baby boy, you are just too soft and dramatic sometimes. Out of the two of us, someone has to be the man.” I rolled my eyes and let out a chuckle. “The worst part is, I’m turning into a grandpa and I’m afraid Daniel is going to leave me.” I couldn’t help the whine that was in my voice. I loved my veterinarian boyfriend; he was the peanut butter to my jelly. I didn’t know him for long but something was just right about us. There was another knock on the door and Melina stood up to answer it, shaking her head and muttering about my hysterics. Daniel stood outside the door and he was looking at me oddly. Oh no, this was where he broke up with me. My heart couldn’t handle this, not with my bestie gone and possibly dead. I couldn’t lose the man I loved as well. “Jer we need to talk.” Those words never ended with anything positive. I started gasping for air again and Daniel rushed to my side and knelt by me. “Ok baby, just breathe. I’m sorry for the poor choice of words.” I heard Melina’s cell phone ringing and she excused herself to answer it. I couldn’t help it; I was in full-on panic and crying mode. I hated crying because I was not one of those pretty criers. Nope, I was a snot running from my nose eyes getting swollen, ugly crier. “I am sorry I am getting wrinkles and I have bags under my eyes. I am also sorry I have gray hair. I FOUND GRAY HAIR!” Daniel just let me continue my hysterics. “I knew you had gray hair honey, you even had a few when I first met you.” My mouth dropped open and he was grinning at me, HOW DARE HE! I did not have gray hair when I met him. “You’re going to leave me, aren’t you? I wouldn’t date me either, and I’m getting fat!” I stood up and showed him my stomach and turned around to show him my butt. “It is all Eugenia’s cooking look at my potbelly and look how fat my ass is getting. I’M UGLY!” Daniel started laughing at me and that just irritated me even more. Why could he not take this seriously? I wouldn’t date me! “Will you calm down baby? You’re like a bull in a china shop when you get into one of these moods. You just go full on and charge ahead.” I crossed my arms and huffed. How dare he make light of my getting old and flabby. His arms wrapped around me and I wanted to pull away but he held me tight. Kissing my ear, I melted into him and turned around to face him. There was nothing but love and amusement in his eyes and I should have known better than to be so hysterical. “I have something for you if you want it. I realize now is not the time, especially with Anna not here but I figured you needed a little something to cheer you up. Come on sit down.” I sat down and he dug around in his back pocket. He took out a small velvet box, my eyes widened as he dropped to his knees again and opened the box to expose an exquisite silver and obsidian ring with two hearts carved into it. Was he giving me a ring? Was he really putting a ring on it? “Jeremy Sutherland, I know we haven’t known each other for long, but since day one I have felt an undeniable bond with you. I want to spend the rest of my days with you and I want to know if you will marry me.” I nodded and thought my head was going to fall off my neck from all the nodding. “Yes, a million times yes!” He slipped the ring on my finger and leaned up to kiss me. The door burst open and Melina’s eyes were wide as Daniel pulled away from me. I glowered at her for ruining the moment. “They found Anna! She’s alive and they are getting her now!” I bolted out of my chair and picked her up in a huge hug! “That’s great news, she will be back in time to plan the wedding.” Melina looked at me and I grinned sheepishly as I showed her my ring. “He just proposed to me!” She giggled and slapped my chest. “Here you were worried he wouldn’t like granpas.” I scowled at her but Daniel started laughing. “You should have seen his face when I told him he had gray hairs when we met.” I started laughing and crying again. “Screw you both!” I grabbed them both in a bear hug, I couldn’t care less I was engaged and my bestie was coming home. Today was a good day.
