::Sarah's POV::
He tilted his head with an expression saying ''are you sure?'' and yes I was damn sure. I can't explain the feelings and thoughts I was going through. I sat up from the bed and clothed myself before making my way to the door which was supposed to be locked!
I need to be more careful.
''I mean I'm okay with an audience.'' Jen scoffed.
No. I firmly answered her.
''I don't know what you're so shy for, I mean you basically caught her in the act as well.'' she included.
Oh... yes. That flashback to when I caught her having s****l intercourse with Nish, one of the other servants. I was pretty sure that it wasn't just the hot water creating all that steam in the shower. I couldn't help but smile at that crazy experience.
''What you smiling for over there huh?'' Drake questioned. He was leaning on one arm perched on the bed.
''No-nothing.'' I lied.
''I'm gonna go get the food.'' I hurried out the door.
The food tray was resting on top of the housekeeping cart. I sniffed in the aromatic deliciousness from the steak tray. Steaks were Drake's favorite food, and my nose indicated that it was professionally cooked to be medium rare. I love steak too, except I'm more of the cooked side. I like it pink, but not bloody. The texture of medium- medium well done steaks can't be beat.
''Okay Ms.Meat Philosophy,'' Jen interrupted, ''Let's just bring it in and let our tongues do the talking.''
You're right. I lifted both trays and scooched back into the room. Drake was now shirtless, yet still perched on the bed as if nothing had changed. I lifted an eyebrow at him.
''Let the talking begin.'' Jen winked at me.
Again. No.
I had to resist my inner wolf and my mate's charm, because dammit I wanted to eat so bad! But I couldn't help but admire his built body. But as I kept observing, his scars became more evident. To think that this man was my soul mate, everything we went through before meeting each other no longer seemed as relevant. I reached out to Drake with his food tray. He gladly accepted it and sat upright on the edge of the bed.
''Thanks babe.'' He dug in straight away.
I followed the feast as well. As I sunk my teeth into the meat the juices flowed onto my taste buds. It was so savory and delicious I couldn't help but mumble in satisfaction.
''I guess Melody got too comfortable to just barge in like she did.'' Drake sighed.
I couldn't help but feel a bit guilty for it, because I had bonded with her like best friends. I'm pretty sure she wasn't expecting a show after seeing me in the state I was in earlier. Neither did I to be honest. But, it just felt so right.
''No, I'll talk to her,'' I assured.
He gave me the ''oh really?'' look, but remained silent.
There was more we did have to talk about though. Jen couldn't have agreed more. We still have a lot to deal with and we can't just sit and do nothing about it.
''I know love,'' Drake sighed, ''But I promise, I will never have you go through anything alone ever again.''
As we finished our final bites and sipped on some wine we finally were able to discuss our problems.
''My mom.'' I started.
''It is strange that she acted the way she did. Yet, she took the bullet for you at the same time.'' Drake looked away, ''It doesn't make sense.''
Okay. Here goes.
''Megan.''
I saw a flinch in his expression and then his brows furrowed, ''That b***h is dead if I ever see her again.'' he growled.
And lastly.
''Alpha's can't wed Omegas...'' I dragged on, choking on the last words.
Drake worriedly embraced me, ''Baby don't worry about that. I love you and I do plan on marrying you.''
''But- but the law.'' I sadly sighed.
''f**k the law,'' he proudly reassured me, ''There has never been a better choice the Moon Goddess has made than having us destined to be together.''
He was like a spring breeze, melting the snow of winter, revealing the fragile sprouts of the earth. I felt I could trust and depend on him, but a part of me told me to not expect a guarantee.
''Can I know more about what you're going to do?'' I sheepishly requested.
He passed his phone to me, it landed on my lap, ''Everything you want to know is yours. I will not hide anything from you ever again. That was my mistake and it costed you so much.''
I started scanning through his phone and saw the restricted calls, the Megan texts, the responses he made, and... February 20? I gestured him to the date on the calendar.
''Fuck.'' he hissed, ''I totally forgot about that.''
''What's happening on the 20th?'' I urgently asked.
''Meeting with the King of Alphas.'' he sighed.
''Why would you have a meeting with the-'' I froze.
''Someone's here!'' Jen alerted.
My peripheral caught a group of shadows quickly disappearing behind the balcony curtains. I rushed over and opened the doors. I stepped out into the balcony which over looked the courtyard. They were gone! I caught a familiar scent, but it was too vague to make it out.
''What's wrong babe?'' Drake joined me.
''I saw someone- I mean... some people.'' I gritted my teeth.
''So, apparently we have another problem. We have rats problem within the kingdom.'' Drake grinded his teeth.
Jen.
''Yes?'' she sat at attention.
It's about time you went hunting. I permitted.
''With pleasure.'' she bowed.
Drake returned to his office to catch up on his duties as alpha. He requested Melody to accompany me in the meantime. I was to not physically leave his vicinity for the circumstances were too dangerous. But, Jen and I had our own way of hunting. Spirit bond was something we acquired at a young age. Not many wolves could do it, but physically I can be at a place while Jen spiritually went ''hunting''. It required vast amounts of energy and concentration, but I had to find out who those shadows were.
I entered Melody's room she had a pillow hushed against her face, ''I- I'm sorry Luna about earlier.''
''No, no it's okay.''
''No it wasn't'' Jen reminded.
Not now!
''I wasn't expecting you right then and there though.'' I giggled.
''I'll knock next time,'' she chimed.
We sat there catching up on any unheard news. I had to ask her if she knew anything about the King of Alphas.
''Well...'' she initiated, ''The King of Alphas is someone who rules over all the Alphas basically. His words are laws, his decisions can't be debated. He's not a very friendly person either.''
''Do you know what goes on in meetings he holds?'' I curiously asked.
''From what I heard, Omegas are nowhere near allowed within the Alpha King's territory. But I did have a fling with one alpha where she did tell me it only meant trouble.'' Melody added.
''Wait, an alpha can be a female?'' I was confused.
''Well, alpha blood runs in certain wolves,'' she tried to explain, ''But alpha leaders aren't based on their gender.''
Ah.
''So you had a fling with a girl huh?'' I tried to change the subject.
Her cheeks blushed, ''Well- the Moon Goddess hasn't appointed me a mate yet, and I uhm...'' she carried on, ''I wanted to save that special gift for my mate.''
''YOU'RE A VIRGIN?!'' I couldn't help but exclaim in denial.
''What is up with you today?'' she playfully giggled.
I felt like I was about to giveaway my peeping tom moment.
''I have been contracted to Drake for a while now,'' she sighed and lowered her head, ''The benefits are great and all, but I do wonder if I am missing out on finding my love.''
I started to feel kind of bad for her.
''But, it;s not like I want to leave either.'' she lowly whispered.
I tilted my head in question.
''Sometimes I try to convince myself that having no mate is better in the long run. I don't know what changed will be made, and what problems could occur and if... if I am able to do anything about it.'' Melody tucked her hands on her lap.
I started to remember how I was back then, I did have similar thoughts as well. Melody was being protective of herself. As was I. There were indeed changes and a whole lot of problems, but I felt like I needed the change. Because the state I had been in was not a healthy one to begin with.
''It's scary,'' I admitted, ''But it's better to regret knowing than not knowing, you know?''
''I guess the mating bond has awakened the ol' wise luna.'' Melody teased.
As time flew by I couldn't help but think about the shadows. I felt like telling her about it, but remembered that they were within the pack and could be right under our nose. I felt really bad, because she had always been truthful and faithful to me. But, I had to be careful. I'm sorry Melody.
I feel my pockets vibrating and realize it's my phone. I pulled it out to an incoming call from a restricted number. I forgot I had Drake's phone!
''What should I do?'' I looked over at Melody.
She shrugged her shoulders, ''I don't know?''
I signaled for her to keep quiet as I allowed the call to go through.
''Well, well, well my dearest fake Luna.'' a spiteful tone spoke.
It's f*****g Megan!
''I see you have my alphas communication device in your possession. Would you do so to return it back I have important business to deal with him.''
''f**k you!'' I spat.
''Hmph,'' she paused, ''It's okay you mutt. I'll be seeing him anyway at the meeting.''
My eyes widened.
''Oh?'' she continued, ''You can't possibly attend with him now can you? Well that's too bad. Who knows what will happen within the meeting? I can't guarantee he will return to you.'' she laughed and then hung up.
''Sarah...'' Melody cut off her words.
I felt the blood pumping inside me, how can that b***h casually taunt me like that. She said she was going to meet him at the meeting, which meant... she was an alpha? I couldn't help but feel defeated at that realization. She always felt so sure about herself, so confident that she would not fail. Was having alpha blood really that different from an Omega's?
Nonetheless, I f*****g hated her guts.
