::Sarah's POV::
After Veronica collapsed we had to seek help, but I trusted no one, especially a tribe I barely knew anything about. I just prayed that she would remain okay until we reached Drake's territory. I wasn't going to lie, I had hoped it was Drake that burst through those doors, but having Veronica alive was also a relief.
The ride back home was agonizing, my wolf whimpered and howled to the moon goddess in search of her mate. She wouldn't talk to me, I just allowed her her space. I guess she was just as sick and tired of our fate as I was. We don't know what we did to deserve this life.
But now Ronnie is in our pack hospital, being monitored by the infamous Billy. She had large battle scars and she was pretty beaten up, but her spirit kept her alive. I envied her drive to keep going, she did keep her word and tried to accomplish something impossible.
''She will be waking up soon, but try to have her remain calm and to get more rest. Her body has multiple broken tendons and crushed bones. We are trying our best for her recovery, but it's easier said than done considering she does not have a mate.'' Billy sighed.
I nodded my head in understanding and went over to Veronica's bed side.
Her beautiful face had a s***h that went across one part of her cheek into her ear. There were bandages and wraps all around her body. She had visible bruises along the skin she had revealed and continued into her wrappings. It was truly an awful thing to see.
I could remember when I was hospitalized, I wasn't as physically damaged as Veronica, but I knew my soul was tired. I wasn't emotionally stable, and my body was numb. I was able to regain my senses and emotions back from the help of Drake and our bond. I could only imagine how she will be feeling and what she will go through without any of the help I received.
She started to grunt and let out a few weak coughs.
I perked my attention to her and patiently waited for her to gain consciousness. She slowly opened her eyes and looked at me.
''Don't worry Veronica, you're safe at our pack house hospital.'' I tried to keep her calm.
She didn't move, instead tears began to fall from those emerald eyes of hers. My heart received a pang of hurt as she used her little strength to cry.
''No, no Ronnie you can't be stressing like this.'' I softly touched her face.
She had incredibly smooth milky skin, but now it was all tattered by what happened at the meeting. She felt my touch and stayed still, but her crying did not stop.
''Dr- Drake.'' she sobbed, ''I want-ed him here inst-'' her body then arched in agony.
I tried to restrain her without causing too much pain, and I hit the nurse's button to call in Billy. The more she moved the more pain she felt, and the once collected Ms.Scarlett was now unstable.
''What's wrong?'' Billy quickly appeared into the room.
''She might be going into some kind of shock.'' I regretfully told him as Veronica kept crying.
He went over to her and tried to verbally calm her down, he tried to explain where she was, and asked a few questions to distract her from her current state. But all she kept mumbling was Drake's name.
Billy then urged me to leave the room, he had notified that she was not capable of coping about the situation right now and had to be put to sleep for a while. I didn't want to leave her side, but it was doctor's orders.
Veronica and I could cry our hearts out about what had just happened, something that only the two of us could relate to. But it was frightening seeing her in this state. Her eyes widened in fear and regret, as if the confident and happy person in her no longer existed.
What was more sad, was today was Billy's birthday. I didn't want him to be involved with something like this on his special day, but he intended to and said, ''It's a doctor's duty to always be on duty.''
I was on my way walking out of the hospital when I met Janet at the waiting room by the entrance. Her face lit up at the sight of me and she came running towards me. She hugged me so tightly and kept saying she was sorry. I was a bit confused by all this considering that one hunt we were on was a sign she could be one of my pursuers.
But her warmth felt sincere, she started crying and hoping for Drake's return.
''Let's go somewhere.'' I suddenly said.
''I- I'm waiting for Billy to finish his shift.'' she sadly said.
''Ah okay,'' I sulked in rejection.
''I mean let me just drop off his bento, and I will be right with you.'' she hurried off to the front desk before I could say anything further.
She then returned all giddy and asked me where we were going.
''Anywhere, I haven't gotten Billy a gift for his birthday.'' I scratched the back of my head and smiled.
Janet led me to her car and continued to drive off. She knew exactly where to go and that it was one of Billy's favorite places. So far so good, she wan't giving off any suspicious vibes. But I still had to keep my guard up, god knows how many times that back fired.
But I had to ask her.
''Hey Janet where were you during the early days of January?''
''Way to go Sherlock, now she will probably know you're on to her.'' Jen rolled her yellow wolf eyes.
''Oh?'' Janet continued to drive while trying to remember, ''I was with Billy most of the early days, we were one of the last ones to wake up from hibernation.''
''So nothing happened after you've woken up?'' I pushed my luck even further.
''No not really-'' she then paused.
''Actually there was this one event.'' she narrowed her eyes trying to puzzle things together.
This is it. At least hoped.
''I remember walking from one of the cafes in town, Billy and I went to get some hot chocolate since it's both our favorite warm up drink.'' she smiled at the thought of her mate.
''There was this rude woman who bumped into me.'' she pondered for a bit, ''I thought she was you at first. But she seemed much older.''
It was my mom?! No f*****g way.
''Yeah, I don't know what her problem was but I had to calm down Billy before he went into beast mode.'' she laughed sarcastically.
''And when I got home I did not notice that she nipped a part of my favorite yellow jacket! That b***h. But yeah, that's pretty much the highlights of my early January days.'' she finished.
''That wasn't the only high lights we saw.'' Jen coughed.
I raised an eyebrow at myself.
''So what have you done lately?'' she shyly asked.
What were we doing indeed? Nothing like coming home from a friends house and getting b***h slapped by your mother who happens to be stalking you in your mate's territory. Not to mention the fact that now my mate has been detained unfairly because of my stupid bloodline. Yeah, that is my highlight.
''Unfortunately we currently don't have an alpha.'' I half smirked.
''But we do have our luna.'' she looked over to me.
How exactly do I play my role? Yes I've been marked by the alpha, but I wasn't sure what a luna does in particular, especially one without her alpha.
''I don't know how.'' I admitted, half realizing that I didn't finish my sentence.
''Oh you will know,'' she focused on the road, ''A luna is the mother instinct of her pack, big daddy alpha will always obey his queen, so you make the shot calls to begin with.'' she gave me a cheeky wink.
Instinct huh?
We arrived in a parking lot near a small store, it looked like some kind of fan shop. I saw some anime, video game, and other fan based merchandise being advertised through the window.
''I never knew he was such a weeb.'' I joked.
''I think it's cute, to like something like this while still being a masculine soldier.'' she lifted both her shoulders.
Did she forget to mention that he was also a nurse? But ay gender equality I'm all up for it.
''That last comment sounded sexist.'' Jen narrowed her eyes at me.
I shrugged at how she was right.
We entered the store and were greeted by one of those chimes that clanked when the door opened. Almost immediately a young man, maybe about 19 or 20 made his way behind the counter.
''Good afternoon how can I- JANET!'' he jumped over the counter and hugged her.
I was a bit taken a back if I was to be honest.
''Kevin!'' she hugged back, ''How are you?''
''I'm good, and you? How's my favorite customer?'' he playfully said and let her go.
''You keep me coming back for more.'' she playfully jabbed him.
''And who have you brought with you today?'' he referred to me.
''This is the Alpha's luna. Her name is Sarah.'' Janet introduced.
He scanned me from head to toe and then back, with a thumb against his bottom lip. If he had not sounded so feminine I could have sworn he would be considered checking me out.
''She has an awesome frame, she'd kill it as akame. You know from Akame ga Kill?'' he fluttered his fingers as if we knew what he was talking about.
''You are so right!'' she apparently understood.
I never owned a television or had internet in my life, so anime was pretty foreign. But I had enjoyed one series, what was it called again? Ah...
''Kaichou wa Maid Sama.'' Jen reminded.
Yes. I loved that rom-com it was so touching. I wanted to binge watch more anime's like that but unfortunately I had to always return to my messed up shed and hide from unwelcoming clan members. If we weren't in this predicament I probably would be watching it back at the mansion!
''But that's not why we are here.'' she interrupted my thoughts.
''We are here because she wants to get Billy a gift for his birthday.'' she giggled.
''I presume you already have yours on locked?'' he winked at her, receiving a red blushed cheeks in return.
''I have just the thing for you, Billy and Janet always come here for their 'special requests' but I'll keep it PG 13 for your sake.''
I did not know what he was going on about, but I was eager to see his recommendation.
He came back out with a wrapped package, ''This is one of my most prized possessions, I am sure he will love it. Since Janet has been a regular here since forever it is half off. That'll be $20''.
I looked into it and nodded my head in approval, despite me not getting what was so good about it. Awe well, that's one thing off the checklist.
