::Sarah's POV::
Before we knew it, the 20th had crept up on us. The night before I had told Drake about my whereabouts, but felt bad because he wanted to spend that time with me. He already was dreaded from what was to come, and I honestly felt guilty. If I had not been his mate, if we had not marked each other, then maybe there would have been some kind of chance.
''Or at least a delay,'' Jen yawned good morning.
Yes. That was true. But every day we were separated tore me apart. But, I couldn't fathom how it would be to not be with him to the meeting, during it, and if there is an after. All I could do at this moment was cuddle with the little remaining time I had left with him.
Veronica's words stuck to my head like glue, if what she said was sincere then that was something I could admire.
''Secretly,'' Jen corrected.
Ah yes. Secretly. Until we know for sure she wasn't just a sweet talker.
''Good morning beautiful.'' Drake gently kissed my forehead.
''Good morning my love.'' I cooed.
This feeling was filled with warmth and love, it was just so pure and reassuring. But of course it was interrupted as he got out of bed, his warm strong embrace loosened from me and it almost felt like a good bye.
''We gotta be there soon so we have to leave now.'' He announced as if he was talking to me too.
He looked at me with eyes hiding a plan. Oh, he was talking to me. I tilted my head in confusion.
''Are you able to hunt?'' he spilled his unreadable gesture to me.
Oh yeah! I totally forgot I could do that. Why didn't I think of that.
''But,'' he looked sullen, ''Don't get caught.'' he began to pick out his clothing from the closet.
''What do you me-'' and before I could finish my sentence Melody knocked on the door.
''Good morning Alpha and Luna.'' she cautiously opened the door as per her last lesson.
She came in with some sandwiches in different varieties, ''I know you have to get going so we prepared some snacks for you to take along the way.'' she was referring to Drake.
I guess she did not know I was going too, well technically not physically, but still.
''Miss Scarlett is awaiting your presence at the entrance, good luck Alpha.'' Melody dismissed herself. It's been a good minute that she properly addressed him like that, we used to just treat it like we were siblings in a big family.
''Does she know?'' he grabbed a BLT sandwich and gulped it down within two bites.
''No, she doesn't.'' I admitted.
''Good,'' he helped himself to a different one, ''Your careful nature does have its perks.''
I felt like a puppy getting patted on the head, I've been complimented by him countless of times, but no one ever complimented me on one of the traits I despised about myself.
I got up and got dressed, I stuffed my face with my favorite easy sandwich, the tuna sandwich. nothing more simple and delicious. I just loved sea food so much! We headed down stairs and out at the entrance Gerald had prepared the car we were going to take along with Veronica.
''Uhhh...'' she eyed me, ''Why is she coming?''
''She's not,'' Drake opened the door for me, ''She will be visiting her friends in a neighboring town.''
Wait. What? My friends?
No effing way!
Veronica shrugged at the plan, but we all sat inside the car. She remained at the passenger seat. Gerald was driving. Drake and I continued our little cuddle session on the way to this ''neighboring town''.
''One thing's for sure our mate is really clever,'' Jen analyzed, ''Maybe he was doing more than just paperwork in that office.''
The ride was a bit awkward, because neither of us wanted to talk. Veronica was looking out at the window, I sensed a bit of fear and worry in her reflection. Drake holding me close and whispering eternal love messages into my ear, trying to calm me. Gerald, who was of course just driving, and then there was me, who was not sure how this was going to play out.
The journey took about 2 hours to get to my destination. It was a territory that belonged to one of Drake's allies called ''Silverbane Pack''. It wasn't a high end, state of the art noble ally. It just seemed like any regular territory, but for sure, it was way better than my old pack.
There were a mixture of Omegas and Alphas in this area, but they weren't segregated or shown hostility towards each other. It was almost too good to be true.
''Maybe it is.'' my wolf narrowed her eyes in suspicion, ''Remember our mission.''
Of course. We cannot fail this.
''Heyo bitchacho!'' I was pleasantly greeted by one of my best friends, Adam!
''Hey Sarah, been a while.'' Derrick bro hugged me. You know, the half hug, and pat on back bit.
''Take care of her,'' Drake nodded his head to them.
''With our lives.'' Derrick swore.
''This hoe will be fine, now hurry back.'' Adam pouted, ''As much as I miss Sarah I sure as hell do not miss this place.''
''What do you mean?'' I couldn't help but ask.
''b***h it's a long story let's go get you settled first.'' Adam rushed me into the territory accommodation.
I looked over my shoulder and saw Drake give me one last smile before he, Veronica, and Gerald went off towards the meeting with the king of alphas. Adam, Derrick, and I headed indoors.
What baffled me was the melting pot of bloodlines in the area. There were alphas, betas, omegas and even mutt breeds! But, it was as if they were living together in harmony.
''Why do you hate this place Adam?'' I asked while he unlocked our suite.
''Because everyone here is silicone t**s!'' he almost exclaimed out loud.
I still didn't get it, nor saw what he meant so I decided to take this into the room. Derrick and Adam shared the ''kids room'' where there were two beds. I had the ''master room'' where a king sized bed was present.
''I mean I don't mind the single bed you know?'' I furrowed my brows.
''And have this gay ass sleep with me? No thanks! I like my sleeping grounds to be separated thank you very much.'' Derrick scoffed at Adam.
''b***h as if! Your stench stinks more than a rogue's p***y!'' Adam retorted.
Ah yes. Just like old times. Bickering and bantering with my two best friends.
''But Billy is also your best friend.'' Jen reminded.
Yes. She was right. But, would it be fair to these two? They've known me since I was abandoned, seen my ugliest side and-
''So has Billy.''
Yes I know! But the amount of time is what I am pondering about. I've basically known Billy for less than a year!
''You trusted me when we first met.'' she rolled her eyes.
You're my wolf that's different!
''There she goes again, arguing with her inner wolf.'' Adam said with a straight face.
I snapped out of my thoughts and sat down in the living room, ''Sorry,'' I apologized, ''I'm overthinking things again.''
After everything was settled we gathered into the dining room and ordered room service. All charges were taken cared of in accordance of Drake. Such a sweet guy. And knowing how these two worked, they made sure to milk every penny they could. I'm talking lobster, king crab, prawns, etc just because! It was all unnecessary, but the indulgence was to help me relax. It did for the time being.
''Anyways...'' Adam began, ''This Silverbane pack was where I was from originally.''
No s**t?! My eyes widened, not saying anything because I had a stuffed face.
''Everything you see here is just a face. If you two faced people are bad these guys have three!''
I still didn't get it.
''But everyone looks so friendly.'' I managed to say while swallowing my food.
''It's all an act.'' he looked at me like I was retarded.
''You know one of the powers the King of Alpha has?'' Derrick interrupted, ''The suppression of memories?''
How did he know that? Or was I the only one who never knew? My facial expression was an open book.
''Well... the SIlverbane pack leader was supposed to be the king, but he declined the throne.'' he went on.
What does that have to do with anything?
''The alpha here has royal blood as well, which means he has his own set of special powers.'' Derrick explained.
Adam and I simultaneously gulped down our drinks and silently allowed him to continue, ''The King has the power to suppress memories, the alpha here has the power to suppress emotions.''
''So you mean to tell me, everyone here are living with manipulated emotions?!'' I almost spat my drink back out.
''Mhmm,'' Adam sassed, ''It's why this bad b***h had to leave, there was no way I would allow myself to be forced to feel a certain way about someone.''
''But,'' Derrick's tone barged in, ''He isn't all bad. Unlike the king, Ian doesn't go making stupid laws like forbidding marriage between bloodlines.''
''That doesn't justify anything.'' my head tilted in confusion.
''There's more to it, rumor has it that Ian did not want to use his power the way he did. But King Aaron used his. You know... on his own brother!''
Derrick waited for the words to penetrate my last two brain cells. But I was still lost!
''He used his powers to suppress his brother's memories!'' he sounded almost irritated. But I understood, I can be very clueless at times.
''Ian is older than Aaron, but Aaron wanted to become the King of Alphas so bad he manipulated his memories to make him believe he was the younger sibling, despite how physically untrue that was, Ian unknowingly believes in this.'' he concluded.
''So what is now become of Alpha Ian?'' curiosity took over.
''He's bed ridden now.'' Adam sighed.
''He can't undo the spell from his brother, he lived his life believing he wasn't the original king.''
''Another thing about him...'' Adam pointed out, ''He suppressed his people's emotions on their own accord. I'm guessing the people had noticed King Aaron's doings and wanted to call this an act of rebellion.''
''This of course pissed off the King.'' Derrick looked out the window, ''So he forbid anyone from leaving who were under Ian's influence.''
Ah.
''I had gone before this all happened,'' Adam took another sip of his beverage, ''I was a rogue for a while until I met this asshole in the woods nearby to the territory. But, as time went by I soon discovered what had happened to this place. But, I had a new home now and never cared to look back.''
''The alpha is now a vegetable,'' Derrick walked away towards his room, ''But, if you want to see him you're welcomed to.''
A few hours had passed, Adam and Derrick were taking a nap in their rooms. I had to analyze all this information. Learning about the king's past was a bit interesting to me, but now wasn't the time for that!
I snuggled under the warm, cozy duvet. I allowed myself to meditate and feel my body becoming light. I allowed the energy in me to leave my body. I was ready to hunt.
