::Drake's POV::
It was overwhelming with the amount of incoming and outgoing papers. Contracts this, updates that, I always hated this part of being alpha. I did however was eager to see my beloved from her trip to the mall. I did know she was uneasy about it at first, but Billy had taken the role to protect her if anything was to happen. It should be me, but alas, duty calls I guess.
The massive double doors to our bedroom opened and Sarah walked inside. Holding her head as if she had a migraine. My wolf perked his ears up and our bodies became on alert.
''What happened?'' I joined her and guided her to sit on the bed.
''I'm not so sure,'' she sounded confused. But why?
''Do you think I am too naive?'' she whispered.
''Who told you you were?'' my wolf's fur began to bristle in me.
''No no,'' she waved her hands in front of her, ''No one did, I was just assuming because lately I haven't been able to relax.''
''You have every right to be tensed, but I'm hoping being with me helps ease it a bit.''
She then leaned into my chest and we fell onto the bed together, ''Of course you do, I don't want you to go.''
Her warmth and scent combined with those soft words of hers began to make a stir within me.
You pervert. I narrowed my eyes to my wolf.
''Don't blame me, it's been a while.'' he dangerously looked at his vulnerable mate.
I had to snap out of it, ''I don't think you're naive, I think you're cautious.''
''Maybe a little too cautious?'' she hid her face deeper into my chest.
''What's going on? Why are you questioning yourself?'' I asked.
She turned her head so she could freely breathe and said, ''Veronica told me how you met, I didn't believe her, but some part of me wished I did.''
''Ah, I see.'' was all I could offer.
''Is it true what she said? That you two met at the mall, sneaking her in, and all that?''
Despite her story being incomplete I felt a pang of pain right to my head. As she went on with her story the headache got more intense, I gritted my teeth and told myself to bare through it. Something was definitely wrong, I felt like that story did make sense, but I had no remembered it. Sarah caught on to my silence and looked up at me, ''Are you okay?''
Was I okay? I've been getting this awful sensation since Ronnie arrived. The fact that I did not recognize her until she said her name was really suspicious. A bit of my memory cannot compute why this was happening, but it did seem to be locked somewhere.
''I don't know if it's true,'' I stroked my fingers through her silky hair, ''But I feel like it was.''
''You too huh?'' she angled her head to receive a better grooming, ''I pushed her away.''
I understood, having unclear evidence of why she had come must have caused her to act accordingly.
''It's okay baby,'' I kissed her head, ''I don't know what happened, but I feel like you can trust Ronnie.''
''We will see.'' she whispered before gently falling asleep.
''All we can do is hope.'' I kissed her head once more and cuddled into slumber with her.
::Sarah's POV::
The sun's rays gently kissed me awake through the narrow opening of the curtains. I felt revived from yesterday, one of the perks of being with your mate. My headache had gone away, my tensed body was at ease and I felt like a new person. Just with the same problems. Jen and I agreed to visit Veronica at some place called the ''Prowler's Inn''. Billy dropped me off, he insisted that he included himself but I shook my head. He sighed and told me to contact him as soon as possible if anything happened.
The Inn was a two story complex, maybe about 50 rooms in total. As I entered the hall to the reception there was a cozy lounge with couches and coffee tables. A few of the stayers were there drinking their coffees, and on their electronics. The place had a unique charm of traditional yet modern layout.
''Welcome to the Prowler's Inn how may I serve you?'' the receptionist cued.
''I'm here to visit a Miss Veronica.'' I confirmed.
''Last name?'' she began to type into the POS.
s**t. I don't even know her last name.
I began to well up in panic until I heard a familiar voice, ''It's Veronica Scarlett.''
I turned around to see her with a plate of breakfast in her hand. I just stood there like a frozen deer.
''Is it okay if I took this to my room?'' she gestured to the front desk clerk.
''Of course just call for housekeeping when you are done.
''Well,'' she looked back at me, ''My accommodation comes with free meals so why not get yourself a bite to eat.'' she nodded towards another hall to where the aroma of cooked food was coming from, ''Don't worry accommodations for one means for two.'' chuckled and began to make her way up the stairs, ''Oh my room is 118.''
The fatass in me could not allow that opportunity to go to waste so I entered the cafe. This is also to make it feel more comfortable between me and her.
''Liar!'' Jen coughed.
I sighed and grabbed some waffles. I then grabbed some perfectly fried bacon and sausages. Towered whip cream and almost completely drenched my waffles in chocolate without realizing it!
''Whoah there, we aren't tryna be diabetic now!'' Jen disgustingly looked at my plate.
It was too late, and I had to go meet with Veronica. For what? Do I apologize? My pride wouldn't let me, wait, why am I here? Whatever it was I just had the urge to come here.
I walked down the hallway and appeared in front of the door. I knocked with my free hand and Veronica unlocked her door, ''Please-'' she eyed my plate, then slowly said, ''Come in?''
She must think I really am retarded with the way I love food. I won't doubt it, I mean I'm basically a pig for slops at this point.
''Sit.'' she pulled out a wooden kitchen chair from the small round table, ''I suppose you have some kind of business with me now?''
I took a step in and seated myself, ''Drake doesn't remember your story.''
She sipped a bit of her coffee and then gently placed it onto the coaster, ''Of course he won't.''
''But he said he believed it, why is that?'' I pierced through the mushy dubious looking breakfast plate of mine.
''One of the King of Alpha's powers.'' she looked out the window, ''He can suppress one's memories.''
''WHAT?!'' I almost choked on my fork.
''I had suspected it since I saw him that night with you. The look in his eyes, he did not recognize me at all.'' she sighed, ''But when I said my name he somewhat got familiar with it, however, his expressions and reactions still told me that there was a deeper suppression to it.''
''Can his memory return to him?'' I gulped on some orange juice.
''Well, something has to trigger it.'' there was a long pause, ''But the King will know when it is worn off.''
''This is dangerous!'' my wolf analyzed.
''So why you of all people?'' I referred to her attendance to escort Drake on the 20th.
''Our king is not a very favorable person, he likes to witness other's sufferings. How he came to his title, was from mere child birth of the alpha bloodline.'' she rolled her eyes, ''You know... that monarchy line bullshit.''
''Anyways... he knew about me from the day Drake asked for me when he became alpha. I was hunting and witnessed the whole thing. It was gruesome, the process of suppression...'' she stopped talking.
''I'm sorry you had to go through that.'' I looked down at the table.
''As the king keeps growing stronger he over took the kingdom and now everyone abides by his wishes without hesitation. He's evil, I couldn't bare to live under his commands even as an alpha bloodline. So I became the first Alpha female to a group of rogues.''
''So...'' I began to stumble.
''Oh right! Well, basically I was ordered to bring him there to watch him suffer yet again.'' she gripped her fork a little too harsh, ''He wants me to 'revisit my childhood' as he puts it.''
''Well what about his Lu-''
''There is no Luna,'' she hushed me, ''Do not speak of the luna of the King. Not in public at least.'' she looked around.
''Oh...'' I guess I didn't know anything.
''It's not anyone's fault. It's one of the laws he made.'' she bit her lip, ''But the luna sure was beautiful.''
''I know this will sound rude, but, what happened to the luna?'' I couldn't resist. Although I already expected the answer.
''He killed her... or so people say. There's too many rumors, but all of them end up telling about her demise.'' Veronica answered.
''Thank you for this talk I needed it.'' I couldn't smile.
''No worries, I will protect Drake unlike last time.'' she finished her ham and egg sandwich, ''I was a coward, but not anymore.''
''You're suggesting rebelling against the king?'' I was shocked at her words.
''Someone has to.'' she whispered, ''No one deserves to be under his evil reign any longer.''
''Well, I'm in.''
''SARAH!'' Jen exclaimed.
''If it means helping Drake and others get away from his clutches I am in.'' I confirmed.
''Your life is far too important to Drake, but thank you for your offer. My people will try their best, but if we shall fail we will at least go down as the pack that tried.'' she then smiled.
Maybe Ronnie was a good hearted person after all.
''Ronnie?'' Jen scoffed, ''Last time you didn't wanna hear that pet name.''
She got me there. Well at least I can just say it to myself.
''Look Sarah,'' Veronica was staring out the window, ''I have nothing to leave behind, Drake has you. I don't have any family.''
''You have your pack.'' I pointed out.
''Ultimately they aren't rightfully mine, nor do I want to tell them what to do if they don't favor it. They say they will fight for me, but I'm not fighting for them, it's all for Drake. I guess I'm selfish.''
''For all the right reasons, maybe they see your vision the same way you do. The first and only to object against the king may go down in history and also spring up a new future.'' I diligently said.
''One thing for sure it's not a waste.'' I added.
She just sat there and stayed quiet. I guess she had her own doubts and demons to fight with.
Time had passed and I dismissed myself. I made my way back to the entrance and phoned up Billy, who was on full blast about how long I took and if anything had happened. I calmed him down and reassured him that nothing bad happened. He picked me up in ten minutes, but Janet was not in the car with him.
''She went to work.'' he figured me out.
''Ah, okay.'' I seated myself, but the other thing I had to get off my chest had been bugging me.
''Does Janet have a torn jacket?''
