Tom woke up to his alarm, he dropped his arm on it as it made his ears bleed from the incessant beeping. He looked in the mirror, squinting from the light, as he got ready. He felt somewhat sluggish and lethargic today as he slowly put his tie and blazer on he then realised it was 6:20 and he didn’t need to leave for another hour and a half. He sighed with gratitude as he slowly sat down and pondered what his breakfast was going to be. His mind flicked through the options whilst his brain became more awake every second. Eventually he decided on a cheese and fried egg bagel, and as he got out the pan the potential events that could ensue today flickered in his mind. He took a bite out of his bagel as he walked around his house ,he checked the time, it was 6:50. There was still an hour until he left and he didn’t know what to do with himself. He just played some google snake on his computer until he had to leave for school at 7:50
He walked into school and decided instead of going straight to lesson he’d go into reintegration straight away. Just to see what would happen but also he hoped he could get away with his lack of homework in maths. So off he went to R.R. The person in reintegration duty called his name like normal and it was just like it was when he was supposed to be in here, that was when his phone rang. It was his mum? “Hello?” Tom asked “What are you doing!?” His mum commanded “I’m in reintegration i told you last night I’d be in here.” Tom reasoned “Then why does is say you’re not in school?” Mum questioned “Sir can you confirm I’m in school? Tom said. That was when sir said “Tom is in school”. This was when his mom hung up, probably due to embarrassment. Tom was also embarrassed, he was lucky the teacher didn’t ask for his phone as if your phone even made a sound normally they’d take it off of you. So Tom read until the teacher announced it was lunchtime. So as everyone else ran out to get their food Tom waited for the que to die down before eating because at the end of the day he’d still eat so it didn’t really matter.
Today had been a very good day despite yesterday being the complete opposite, he had never had fun in reintegration but he was reading a really good book about the psychology and neuroscience of sleep so he was content with the Normal boredom of R.R. The only downside of R.R was that it could sometimes be inhumanly boring. Especially if you didn’t have a book. This was the reason why Tom always carried a good book with him. He never knew when he might need it. Knock Knock. “Come in” “Can I grab Tom?” “Of course.” “For god sake miss Richards if you say something bad or stress me out I swear to god” Tom thought. Miss Richards took Tom to the main building and to the first floor. At first Tom thought they were going to her office but then she realised that they were heading towards the L.S.F department. “What why? What’s happening?” Tom frantically thought. Miss Richards must’ve seen the look on his face so she said “don’t worry you’re not in trouble” as she brung him to a room. In there was a tall skinny white man with Harry Potter glasses and straight messy black hair. Miss Richards gave Tom a simple command “sit down” she said and then she left the room. This left Tom and this guy alone. “Hello, my names mr haigh” “Hello I’m Tom... why am I here?” Tom asked “well you see Tom this year a new program has been put in place that screens people for any signs of autism, Dislexia and ADHD. This was when the memory’s of yesterday evening came flooding back. Tom had to be careful not to show anything was happening. He decided not to tell this guy his suspicions that he had ADHD and wanted to see what he thought. So Tom kept quiet and answered the questions with as much detail as possible and as truthfully as possible. After the fact me Haigh wished Tom a good rest of the day and told him that later on today his results would be emailed to him and to do whatever they recommend in the email. So back to reintegration Tom went. He was happy that he wasn’t in trouble earlier on. Overall he was in a good mood. Just like that his detention was over. Today had gone so quick. Especially after he met with mr Haigh. So for the second time this week Tom walked home in the cold, loud and bleak streets of London. Despite the tone of central London whilst Tom was walking through there he was in a very good mood. Same as when he got home. Like always when he got home he played on his computer and ate dinner but he felt like he forgot something. Even when he went to bed he felt that. Just as he turned his light out he remembered. The email! As he raced to his email app his screen flashed with a new email pop up. And next to the numbers which Tom had no idea what they meant was the words “potentially autistic, showed negative for ADHD and dyslexia” advice for score: seek diagnosis. Tom couldn’t believe it. His head was spinning and he was sweating l****s. He knew what the implications of this. He couldn’t change a thing as now he knew about himself potentially being Autistic. He’d always seen autists as a different entity but what if he was that different entity. Still shocked he decides to sleep it off. He falls asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow
